|
|
So I was just thinking about how awesome it would be to have a DDR/ITG machine located in an actual gym, like a 24 Hour Fitness or something. I think that if the machines could be put into a small room, so that they can be sound isolated, it would be a great idea. Players could have a great playing experiences without the clutter, noise, and hassle of the arcade, but with the benefits of having on-site locker rooms and shower facilities for before and after you play.
I can't speak for everyone, but paying a monthly fee of $50 to $70 would be worth it to me. Especially with the bonus of having access to the facilities I mentioned above.
I know I'm not the first to think of this, but what are your thoughts and comments? Have any of you found a DDR machine at a gym? I've seen a lot of schools with console versions of DDR available, but I've never seen it in a private gym before. _________________

I would love it! Even though I'm just now passing 6 and the occasional 7 & 8 footer (meaning I stink), if our local gym decided they wanted to try it, I'd be more than happy to teach a beginner class (ex-aerobics instructor - it dies hard).
Most gyms though, except for I think 1 in our city (a major city at that) wouldn't have the money or space for it. Which is sad.
Seeing more people exposed to DDR and/or ITG - even if it was PS2 with soft pads would be excellent and I think would take away the "wha" blank look, the "OMG I could never do that" or the "Oh that's a just a game for kids" mentality AND kick their butts, because it IS exercise as well as being fun. _________________

Best you could probably get is a TV with a DDR pad and a ps2.
DDR machines = $$$$ and a gym with a ddr machine is going to attract more of the wrong type of attention than anything else. _________________

It depends on how the gym goes about having people pay for the machine. If machine play is part of a monthly membership fee or an adult pass for the day, then it would keep the immature kids away. In fact, I would have to argue that even if the machine were on a pay-as-you-go basis, most kids would not learn about the machine or even frequent it.
Sound is the biggest issue to me. Could the machine be placed in a location that does not disturb anyone else? _________________

The machine I play on every week, is in fact in a gym. There's a special room there for electronic games (such as eye toy, wii sport, but also other weird physical games...) and they also have a Supernova machine there (Japanese, so all songs playable from the start, including Chaos and such)
There's no need to become a member, you can also pay seperately each time you visit. And the machine itself is always on freeplay, no need to insert money.
I'm afraid that the Netherlands is a bit too far away for you people to visit on a regular basis though? Right? |

the gym i go to has a really poopy DDR PS2 set up with 2 of those cobalt flux school pads. The TV is an LCD with terrible lag stretched out(it looks so awful!) and the pads are dirty and crappy. While with proper maintenence, im sure the pads would be better, but the problem with having DDR at a gym is that the people who work at gyms aren't arcade technicians or anything, they just are there to assist you with using equipment |

I'm sure some gyms [probably in Asia] already have full setups like what was described. _________________

The YMCA in my city has an ITG2 dedicab in a room with a bunch of other games like table tennis/air hockey/and some other crap. It's not open 24/7 though, they have specified times for each age group in the room. Really stupid, IMO. |

Wow, this is awesome. This is exactly what I'm hoping to propose to some local gyms. I appreciate the help and the link! _________________

There's actually a PIU machine at a 24 Hour Fitness SuperSport in San Mateo, CA. However, it's inside the Kid's Club room, so it's not available for it's members, so therefore, only the members' kids can play it. _________________

It wouldn't be very hard.
You could add $2.00 to everyone's membership. _________________
