What mode are they playing? What game has this mode where you battle with a choice of 2 songs? What song did they choose? |

All answers in 1 post. Thanks I actually guessed the mix is Extreme 2 for PS2 USA. |

And the actual menu calls it "Dance Master Mode."
Probably to this day, my favorite mode ever, save that you MUST trek through a LOT of beginner/light stages before you get to "the meat."
As well as a branching system of stages, this also features:
-Secret Arrows (added to 30 stepcharts for extra scoring bonuses)
-Secret Conditions (for X-level bonus songs/stages and shortcuts!)
-Nonstop courses integrated into regular gameplay
...and in the first time in DDR history, is actually considered the MAIN gameplay mode, whereas the songwheel/"Free Play" is considered secondary.
This, in addition to having one of the most legendarily well-crafted tracklists (including *numerous* favorites from NAOKI, 3rd Mix, and arcade EXTREME; as well as arguably the funnest/best stepcharts for exclusively licensed songs so far) is why many players still think EX2 is the best (US?) mix ever. Admittedly, there are days when I prefer this mix over JP-EXTREME, even.
Cons: You're stuck on 1x during much of DMM, and "AA" grades require full combos.
If you're an import fan, and like UM2 stages, check out DDR STR!KE too! |
