So I was looking through the data on the DDR X disc, since Konami likes to leave random songs elsewhere on the disc. Of course, I found one in the SOUND.DAT file. Problem is, I have no idea what it is. I think it sounds like what plays during SMM, whenever you complete a character's story. It's length could make it a DDR song, though. If anyone else has found it, what are your thoughts of it? _________________

Uhh, I wouldn't exactly consider X either mainstream OR able to gain more people...
Still having fun with it. I like SMM, actually. It's not the most fun thing ever, but it gives me a good laugh. _________________

Thoughts on DDRX:
-I completely agree with everything Wolfman Jake said earlier. I think is a very decent mix and will keep me entertained for a while.
-I don't really care that most of the songs are new. I really slept on SN2 and didn't pick it up until like 2 months ago, I was already new to most of its songlist, DDRX is almost completely foreign to me, yet I still really like it. I've been playing DDR since 3rd Mix was the newest mix and I can honestly say I don't really care for too many pre-SuperNOVA songs anymore, of courst I'll always have my favorites but I think I've heard every pre-SN era song played to death (don't even get me started on Extreme songs). Yay the remaining SN2 songs and Soul Crash!!
I'm glad KONAMI put in the effort to create a whole bunch of new songs for us! They're not all gems, but most of them aren't too bad! Especially now that I'm unlocking stuff.
-SMM is fun. It's kinda slow but its about time DDR at least had some kind of storyline. Either way it beats SN2's crap dance master mode or whatever it was. I also like all the updated character art we get to see and character models. Kudos to Konami for including Alice.
-The licenses do kind of leave something to be desired. 30 Lives, Wine Red, The Sound of Freedom, and Synthesized are some of my favorites, we could've gotten some better choices but there's also some very good KOs this time around that are like license quality (Darwin's songs, Insp------n, S---- W---).
-Lots of background videos , the ones for new KOs (like Flourish) look even higher quality then, for example EX2's "exclusive" videos.
-The hottest MODE SELECT theme since EX . Can't wait to hear it remastered on the Megamix (EX's remastered theme was amazing!)
-My only complaints thus far: The announcer is horrible, what were they thinking? Why are Nonstop/Oni the SAME damn courses. Lazyness on Konami's part. WHY NO ONLINE MODE?!?!
At first DDRX kind of reminded me of a PS2 Ultramix. We've got a lot of "indie" new music but the stepcharts are pretty bomb. Good work to KOA! _________________

As to the announcer, I honestly don't know what to think. I've said it before, and I don't think that the the Urban theme was the best idea, but its something different so I'll take it. That said, if Konami is going to go with themes like this it better change up EVERY release, kind of like Pop'n does. Also, multiple announcers and unlock-able announcers would be AWESOME. I'd love to see at least two choices per game (one could even be an old school announcer).
Also--AKIRA. Give Me Akira. |

THE ANNOUNCER SHOULD BE PUT TO DEATH FOR HIS CRIMES AGAINST DDR.
ONLY NOT DEATH.
JUST...MAYBE PROBATION FROM KONAMI OR ITS GAMES FOR LIFE.
INCLUDING DDR.
ESPECIALLY DDR.

Songlist: The licenses are actually pretty good IMO. I mean, Wine Red could be jacked up a bit, as could Big Girls, but overall for the licenses: no complaints. And I got U Can't Touch This confused with generic rap song X. Sorry, song.
~KOs: Sorry, not the best. Not really my thing. Sabre Wing isn't too great, it's kind of the Arrabiata of X: Hard, but that's the only real reason I play it. However, Poseidon, Uranus and the like are also amazing, but there are two extremes here: BLIND JUSTICE IS AMAZING. VENUS SUCKS.
~Boss Songs: Isn't Or-If-Is a license group? If so, then YESSSS. EQUIVALENT OF TEN FOOT LICENSES. AND POTATO PIRATES FTW.
Overall: 21/25. Potato Pirates and Darwin make up for about 10 of that because they're just that amazing. DDR WILL BE REDEEMED WHEN DARWIN MAKES A DDR SONG FEATURING THE POTATO PIRATES. AMAZING.
Interface: Possibly the worst since SN first came out. Urban? Don't make me laugh. I suppose that I've expressed my hatred for the interface before, but seeing it in action...meh. Orange, BTW, is all right I suppose. It's better than red and black, like in SN. But then again, ANYTHING's better than SN.
Overall: 17/25. Just not my thing. Throw out the Urban, put in the time element, and you've got a winner. But for now...
SMM: What was Konami thinking? I mean, Quest Mode looked pretty good I guess, but this is too restrictive with all the "Points aren't specified, LOLOLOLOLOL" and "You can't choose your difficulty so you're stuck playing crap licenses on beginner, LOLOLOLOLOL". It's too slow. Also, I wasn't expecting the Great DDR-ian Novel, but they could've at least put SOME believability into that thing. "Hey, Jenny!" "Hey, Yuni!"Do you know where a good fast food place is?" "I'll tell you if you dance with me." WHO SAYS THAT?????? Come on, Konami! If you want urban, at least spend some time in the city, for crying out loud!
Overall: 15/25. Not good, go back to Extreme 1 and 2's Master Modes.
BGs:
Better than SN1 and SN2. Finally, some variation~! However, there really isn't much to say if you've piqued your interest and have seen one song on YouTube. It's basically all that.
However...
AMAZING VIDEOS. The only thing that would make this better is if Bjork's Bachelorette was on this and they added that video. Or Porishead's Only You. Or Cibo Matto's Sugar Water. But I can't complain about Wine Red, 30 Lives, Flourish, and ESPECIALLY NOT Horatio~. The only bad video is Sabre Wing. That wasn't par for the course, especially not with that amazing of a stepchart.
Dancers:
~Emi: Rrrrruffles have rrrrrrridges.
~Yuni: Like someone said before, can't complain about any game with Yuni in a maid costume. Oh! And did anyone notice that Akira (X style) was in her concluding slide, if you will (bodyguard)?
~Zero: OH GOD WHERE TO START. This guy is wrong. I mean, he seems obsessed with...*ahem*...lifting up his body parts. OMG I'M LIFTING UP MY HAIRRRR. OMG I'M LIFTING UP MY CHINNNNN. OMG I'M LIFTING UP MY HEAD WITH MY THUMBBBBB. Also, he doesn't seem surgeon-like. His dancing avatar (not his picture used in SMM, or his "Mystic Arte" screen flash, if you will) looks like a gay raper. "THE DOCTOR WILL SEE YOU NOW." Oh god. BTW did anyone think at first glance, "SN REMAKE OF DANCER U1"?
~Gus: THIS. DOESN'T. HAPPEN. I'm sorry, but the change was too drastic for my taste. His SN/SN2US outfits were GREAT, but for like the first 75% of the game you don't have that. Oh, and did I mention this is the exact opposite of Zero? His SMM avatar and "Mystic Arte" screen flash were sucky, but his dancing avatar is AMAZINGGGG. I actually like this Gus, but because of his "Mystic Artes", I'm not playing as him.
~Queen Zukin: This is the Zukin that would kill you in your sleep. Robo-Zukin would read storybooks at you until your head fell off.
~Jenny: I wonder if that jumpsuit goes ALL THE WAY, hm HUM
~Bonnie: She's all right. Not the best, but all right. Can't complain about a female Disco.
~Julio: I don't like this kid. I don't know why.
~Ruby: Ruby did a lot better job putting herself together in this mix than in SN. In SN she looked like "OMFG I'M WEARING FLOWERSSSSSS". But now she's like, "I'm actually wearing CLOTHES mon." Besides, due to some...*ahem*...minor messups in dancing characters in this mix, Ruby has moved up the charts to one of my favourite dancers~
~Disco: Yay AND Nay. I didn't like him until I saw Queen Zukin's conclusion slide. Then I'm like "YEAHHH BOIIIIIII!!! GO HAIR". Now I luff him.
~Alice: WIN. FULL OF EPIC WIN.
~Baby-Lon: "Goo goo ga ga, I'm going to outer space!" Not that that's bad or anything, it's just not my thing. But his outfit is two mixes too late. Sorry, Baby-Lon, but you missed the space shuttle to the supernova.
Dancers and BGs: 25/25. AMAZING.
FINAL VERDICT: 78/100: A B, as far as I'm concerned. Finally, we've got what we've been waiting for, but in a different package. "Here ya go, here's some great songs, but in a sucky game and with horrible unlocking systems. Have fun!" Sorry Konami, but can we PLEASE have our Extremes back? Extreme 1 was good except for the intensely hard Mission Mode and BEYOND X HORRIBLE interface, and Extreme 2 was great, albeit old. X is a nice change of pace, but can we please have our pace back? Please?
Sentence: Sentenced actually to LISTEN TO THE FANS. In that survey that we filled out some six months ago, did we ask for "A boring unlock system, some bad videos and licenses, and a HORRIBLE interface, all to become only a bit edgier"? I don't think so. We should propose a songlist and send it to Konami to fix all of Wolfman Jake's problems, I s'pose. |

I have both Wii & PS2. I like techno / dance music...I loved ITG, DDR Max 2, and Extreme 2. I thought the first Hottest Party Wii game had some awesome songs. I liked the addition of the hand moves too, but thought they only worked like 75% of the time.
My question is: To those that have played both these new games, is it worth picking either up? I'm sick of being let down by DDR's music lately...thought Super Nova & Super Nova 2 were a waste of money. They each entertained me for about 1 week each, while games like Extreme 2, Max 2, and ITG have entertained me for years.
Also, has the nunchuk sensitivity been fixed for HP2, allowing it to register every time? |

Got the game today!
At 1st, I thought, "oh, the new announcer isn't so bad." THEN I PLAYED SMM. My God, he made the old announcer sound amazing. I turned him off, but unlike the old announcer, he's STILL annoys me when I choose me music!
SMM is alright. I KINDA like not having to go through & get so many points for a song (& COSTUMES!), but the story is "meh", though it still has its moments.
Once I unlock everything, I'll give my opinion of the songlist & such.
Also, LOUIS-CONCERN III IS AWESOME. I laughed when I 1st saw him.
Going to edit sig so I don't have to hear "WHAT'S THAT ANIME PLAYING DURING TRUST?!?" & "WHICH ANIME IS PLAYING DURING VENUS?!". Believe me, it helped during EX2. |

I beg to differ.
Supernova 1,2, Extreme and Extreme 2 had songlists that tried to get new people into ddr.
DDR X is more of a "Jason Enos is gone, so here is my chance to fill up ddr with Obscure Rock/alternative and retro Garbage so I can be teh winnar!"
Whoever the new music producer is, pay close attention

Then, below this I see:

I HATE rock/alternative in DDR...miserable to dance to...it's like dancing to opera. So what is more in X...trance/dance or rock? |

Um...there's not too much rock in here. There's a few licenses that are rock I suppose, and there are some rock KOs (Although I personally think GIRIGILI and Venus are awesome to dance to!) but that poster is pretty over exaggerating it. (I think they might be mad because they were expecting another Ashley Tisdale song )
The game is mostly Dance/Trance/House/Electronic as most DDR games are though. There's bit more hip-hop stuff than you would see, due to the 'urban' theme though.
I recommend you look up the full songlist on YouTube and listen to all the previews and judge for yourself .
In short, Konami's trying to please everyone, and you know what happens when people do that _________________

Yeah, SN1 was the rock mix. Here It Goes Again is actually the best rock license we have ever gotten aside from Rock Lobster (though it still could've been replaced with a better song). Girigili and Venus are GREAT.
Now I'm beginning to realize that this game is a lot better than people say it is. The licenses are close to the least interesting (kinder, truer way of saying worse than most other games), but it gets better as I listen to the. but Here We Go, Sound of Freedom, that Edun song, U Can't Touch This, and a few others are pretty darn good. Would've preferred more mainstream, but hey, why complain about what we didn't get right after the game comes out? Not until they ask for feedback. The stepcharts are great. The KOs leave something to be desired, but if you didn't get SN2 JP, they're pretty good. The originals aren't that great except for a few that X JP are guaranteed to get.
This mix is actually shaping up. And the announcer isn't THAT annoying. Cheesy, but not that annoying. They could've done worse. Say, an emo or surfer, or stoner announcer.
"Gosh, you're so good, I cut myself because I can't be that good....." Or.... "Your dance was so depressing I could cut myself." "GNARLY!" "Whoa, total crash man." "Eheheheh, you're good...." "Eheheheh, you failed, awesome."
Another few things, what is the Secret Folder in Information, and is there a "You got all songs!" announcement or something? I think I got them all.... _________________

lol That was good.
Anyway, I guess I'm in for both X & HP2 when I find a sale. Makes me sad that I'm just not that excited about DDR releases anymore though. I think it's only because I found Super Nova 1 & 2 tedious and not worth the effort, as the songs I kept unlocking were dull. I'll probably get bashed for saying this, but I want another Mario Mix...at least those songs were all danceable with good melodies. |
