|
|
This may or may not have anything to do with upcoming mixes... but I've seen where these crazy dreams have gone before. I remember posting sometime back in 2004-2005 about a song "like WILD RUSH on crack, that ran 100-200-400 BPM and mixed skips, jumps, 1/3s in it's different sections," if that tells you anything.
Anyways, I had a nice, fun, lengthy DDR-dream last night again which has inspired me to once again take the pad, and it was very wicked in it's execution. Some songs and elements featured make me suspect it has to do with DDRX, and the natural place of "DJ Mode" being introduced on Uni3 make me suspect that it could be possible there, as well.
Or MAYBE, I'm just having a crazy dream. It's totally possible that I'm off my rocker with this.
Anyways, about THE MIX. A *lot* of the tracks featured on the mix were remixes of classic favorites, like they took the bases of the original songs and made "another" rearrangements of them with their own specific stepchart sets... and using this approach, the game ALSO featured many of the original tracks in addition to them.
On top of this, some of the stages, including the pop music songs, had additional "special" stepcharts added to them if you played certain song/difficulties on First, Final, or Extra Stage, kind of like the way "Freeway Shuffle" and "Raspberry Heart" did using the Expert/Prize modifiers in SN2-JP, or the way "SUNKISS <3 DROP" works. Not all of the songs had additional "Expert/Oni" charts, SOME of them had extra Basic and Difficult ones instead. And they were much more structured like US-EXTREME's Mission Mode-only charts, not so much like the "Groove Radar specials."
Some of the remixes included:
AM-3P (kobo style)
BRILLIANT 2U (kobo style)
AFRONOVA (BeForU style) - like BeForU did an AFRONOVA Music Video, tribal costumes and all, which includes new original guitar sequences not too unlike BREAK DOWN!
DEAD END -jun style- - A HAPPY HARDCORE remix of DEAD END!
Healing Vision -jun/TERRA style- - Played/sounded also like a rearranged "A" or Fascination mix, combining a folksy/instrumental approach with bass... and I think it had SINGING!
MATSURI/TSUGARU (Space Mix) - still by RevenG/DE-SIRE, but it actually had it's own name, rather than being some "remix," but that's about what it sounded like...
INNOCENCE OF SILENCE (Winter Style) - Sounded much like the original, but kind of... "icy/snowy." Opening had more bass/jumpy sequences, the "slow" piano solo was actually a FAST one, full of A-like streaming, and concluded with more fun skipping/gallopping sequences.
1998 (FUTURE RAVE Mix) - Yes, the credits roll from SN!
AFTER THE GAME OF LOVE (r.2) - A second verse with newly arranged steps, followed by a jazzy interlude, the chorus, and another funny ending. "AFTER THE GAME" was also playable on one stage instead, with it's own original steps now, though "unique" parts seemed to resemble the 6-panel chart.
DROP OUT (SySF Mix)
CANDY* (SySF Mix) - Got hella creative with the bass-thumping part! Maybe it was nc style, instead?
.59 (remix) - Yes, it had UM crossovers!
STILL IN MY HEART (MOMO MIX) - Full set of stepcharts!
BURNIN' THE FLOOR (MOMO MIX)
Freeway Shuffle - Featured the "Prize" charts from SN2-JP.
TRIP MACHINE (Metal Mix) - Sounded like late-70s, early-80s classic rock; possibly coincided with SP-TM (Jungle Mix) instead of classic.
PARANOiA (LED's Punishment Mix) - Sounded much more like old-school PARANOiA stages, as it played 190~380, the midsection and climatic 400-bpm end seemed homage to HELL SCAPER in it's arrangement; possibly paired with PARANOiA MAX (one kind or the other, like that doesn't have enough charts already!)
MAX 300 (Blues Style) - A rearrangement of MAX 300 of about equal difficulty, but it sounded like upbeat blues and was all in 1/3s. Think "Orange Lounge" or "Annettai Maji/Ska Bokudan." But bluesy-timed.
Fascination (Midnight Mix) - An arrangement of Fascination that was more eroticized than the OG's... think "SEXY PLANET, SEDUCTION, or La Senorita virtual" in nature.
Other songs that seemed to be featured were:
Posiedon
Pluto
Pluto Relinquish
Insaner
Insaner (L.E.D.'s Punishment Mix)
Look to the Sky
Look to the Sky (Rumble Roses Mix)
Dance Dance Revolution
Stompin' at the Gotham
VANESSA
A Place In Time (The 4400 Theme Song)
Through The Night (Outlaw Star Theme Song)
*I guess there was a little thing going with TV/Cartoon/Anime themes in it!
And a "new" NAOKI rave song, pretty much in tune with DYNAMITE RAVE and CELEBRATE NITE, with stepcharts that while unique/different, were still about "on that level." But the similarity wasn't an accident, as players could elect to play the original CELEBRATE NITE and DYNAMITE RAVE stepcharts to the new song, as well!
There was also a couple of rearrangements of new tunes, and one of which was programmed with a totally circular-programmed stepchart; and was ONLY playable as an Encore/Bonus stage - which locked the song on Shuffle! Therefore, the steps would be entirely comprehendable, but it would CHANGE every game! I want to say it was a rearrangement of CHAOS! But I'm not totally certain on this.
I can see how this would work for an anniversary game. And given the "rearrangement" approach, I can see how looping/combining mixes and "beatmapped SFX" (like "GO!"s, scratches, synth-quotes like "Bring it on down!") would work with DJ Mode; and perhaps even allow for CUSTOM POWER MIXES (and/or LONG VERSIONS) to be designed, saved, shared, downloaded, etc.!
o.o - Or maybe I've just had a crazy dream. That could be it, too!
-EDIT-
And the new Master/Quest Mode? Went something like this:
Upon opening, you could select from Basic, Difficult, or Expert stages to play, followed by a set (A, B, C, and so on). Each stage (similar to Hyper MM's level structure, but without skipping) gave you a definitive modifier set and scoring goal. The player is then given a choice between 3 set songs to complete said goal with, or a "Random" which allowed any song/arrangement to work with it. (Save for final/boss stages.)
You could change difficulties between sets, but each "set" had to be completed from start to finish on one consistent difficulty. If you failed with one song, you would then be allowed to try with the remaining ones (including random). Fail with all four choices, and you Game Over-looped; where you would have to restart the latest set (and thus, could change the difficulty thereof). Each set ran from 4 to 8 stages (counting the boss ones), and playing certain songs/difficulties on as the first/last "chance" of the level also incorporated the special charts, if a song had one associated with it. Kind of like a "Choose Your Adventure" nonstop mode; and the "final" set (which unlocking counts as completing) is simply a "looped set" that features all of the stages a couple of times.*
*The modifiers are looped, but the song-select is Random Caprice-like.
Battle Mode incorporated the ability to add "penalty steps" to the other player - streams, jackhammers, and "extra jump" arrows (which sometimes made 3-panel jumps!) to the opponents side - steps that could break combos, or cost momentum and attack-power upon missing, but NOT count towards building it! Or it could "poison" some of the opponents steps, too.
Instead of "shuffled" stepcharts, one player got theirs LR-flipped, and the other got theirs UD-flipped. The game is played until one player gets 3 points, or the game is tied 2/2. In the event of a tie, it plays a random stage with an ONI lifebar, and the object of that "extra stage" is to "fail out" the other player. Something like a 100-150-175-200 combo successfully "attacked" a life of the other player, as though they had missed a step, even if they didn't. So you score a 175 combo where the other player misses a step, and you instantly win. |

That has to be the most lengthy and detailed account of any DDR dream ever.
You better whatch your back though, Konami might be getting some lawyers together to sue you for stealing ideas from their game. _________________

How the hell do you remember all that from a dream? I couldn't even remember all those titles when I'm fully awake and alert.

You can't possibly remember a dream in such detail.
Nice story, though. _________________

I remember having a dream before I knew about SuperNOVA 2... I dreamed of a mix with a bad electricity effect on the pre-song "X Stage" screen, with a couple songs. I woke up and thought, "What was that one song called? 'Malacca'?"
Skip ahead to SN2. There's a song called Malacca, and apparently the other song in my dream was "Suddenly I See".
I also had a dream with songs that I would eventually find on DDRMAX for PS2 ("That 'Healing Vision' remix in my dream last night was awesome! I think it was called 'Angelic Mix'...").
So let's hope one of those songs you listed is real. _________________

I had a dream where El Ritmo Tropical was a 26-footer and the only notes that weren't 64ths were three-arrow hands for 16ths. Not even kidding. _________________

I've had DDR play some element in my dreams a handful of times (although not in the last couple years), but the only thing I remember of them was once, there was a song called Hot Dog, and it was something ridiculous like a 53 footer, but I specifically remember that it was an easy 53 footer, heh.
(I also once dreamt that my local arcade had a IIDX machine made of stone, and when I played it my mouth started bleeding.) _________________

Well, it was interrupted with infrequent bathroom breaks, and I did get this odd habit (and enthusiasm) of jotting down notes of dreams. This just happened to hit me recently. And again, maybe I *am* off my rocker, and this really *is* just some crazy dream of mine.
I was still humming the songs to myself in the meantime. Even though I'd never heard the remixes before - how wacky was that? I guess there's just some things out there we all get "crazy" about, sometimes. I'm not totally sure if those were the actual mixers/remixers, but I do remember the way they SOUNDED, and that's the kind of impression I got from them.
Also, it may have featured "FOLLOW THE SUN (90 IN THE SHADE MIX)" as well. Certainly a hella-cool old-school song that deserves refreshing exposure.
26/53-footers wouldn't be totally out of the question, if the step rating system gets revamped in the future, too. :o Giudecca could get an (OR-IF-IS remix), and there *does* seem to be a trend with "let's see how obsurdly long we can make our titles and subtitles"... uh, thing going on.
*looks at SN+UM4 V-Rare, featuring such memorable subtitles as:
CELEBRATE NITE
(Like it's '99 Cuismo & Co. DeeJay Remix)
Flow
(The Acolyte's Zero Tolerance Remix Extended)
and
INNOCENCE OF SILENCE
(Cube::Hard's Not-So-Innocent Remix) |

I had a dream where someone offered me $170 to mod a BlueShark. They weren't even specific. I should have just painted it Red and said "ENJOI UR REDSHARKZ" _________________

Weird recurrance. Seems like that new rave song mentioned before (titled something about "Diamond") also features the stepcharts to SUPER STAR as well. o.O
I dreamt I dabbled in that mixing mode a bit, and it featured a number of effects similarly to "Training Mode" claps. So you could have it follow beats, half beats, measures; or you could simply arrange arrows anywhere you want them, and the effects would match up with the arrows, instead of the other way around. Some of the prepacked ones like those mentioned before are hella catchy.
The other weird part that I noticed this time, is that Nonstop/Challenge mode is the *primary* mode of gameplay; each course featuring an extra stage for a 95% *overall* score in Nonstop (Basic/Trick/Maniac adjustable - yeah, using those old-school titles again, too!), or simply surviving the course in Challenge (which then kicked each level up to Trick/Maniac/Pro *the new term for Oni/Challenge*). They were usually 5-song courses, with the sixth being the "extra," and 4 of them about 8-10 stages long (one of the "fun songs", one of the "popular" songs, one of the "solar system" songs (which opened with FOLLOW THE SUN, and there was an Earth one now, too... "earth scaper" or... something like that - it's a dj.TAKA song, I (know?) that much...), and one, of course, of the "freakin' hard songs"). Extra stages, of course, implemented particular modifiers, but then were available to play without the modifiers on the longer, unlockable courses.
The extra stages, once completed, became purchasable for freeplay/event mode, which was the typical songlist/modifiers mode, but made the secondary mode now. The better the score on the course(s) you got, the lower the purchasing price. Even Battle Mode, still present, was played over the courses instead of the individual songs.
And another fun kicker - the new "Data Bank," made of the special charts featured in extra modes or other mixes (Club Mix steps to B2U/PARA MAX) or Ultramix/Universe "Oni" charts. This time, however, instead of simply porting edits to other mixes, this mode *creates* an entire edit library, customized to each specific title. For example, the DDRMAX2 one would contain the fleshed-out stepcharts for CELEBRATE NITE/Kind Lady's oni remixes, the full-run set for Try 2 Luv.U, the full-freeze set for Tomorrow Perfume, and the add-ons for AM-3P, Secret Rendezvous, etc. There were even a few new ones, like full-skip charts, and single/double variations of them.
o.o Yeah. Maybe I'm just crazy. But I hope I'm not (still) just imagining this. |

I instantly thought of "Hot Dog" by They Might Be Giants. It's the outro song in Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, and it's actually pretty hoppin' (so much that I hunted it down and stepped it in StepMania). A speedy mix of that would destroy the universe with awesome. |
