If someone really wants to know about a thread they can always just go to the forums and find the thread and look to see if there are further replies. | You think everyone manually checks every single thread they've posted in to look for followups?
Some manner of notification is a staple of how communities continue to flourish. People tend to forget what they said, where they said it. Check the box to get notified when someone responds, and you don't have to bother with it until you get the notification.
It's an awfully worthwhile feature, and "just removing it" would only be a temporary fix. Not to mention it didn't fix the issues of account signup confirmation e-mails for new users... and no, we won't do (1) Admin Confirmation or (2) Instant Activation.
Regardless, this issue has been fixed (see JDogg's post). We're looking into what has to be done to get threads to paginate properly, assuming simply posting in a new thread won't fix it.
If that fixes it, great! If it doesn't, we'll figure out what we need to do.
[edit]
Simply replying to a thread seems to make all new pages/posts/etc. show up... _________________

You can still get to them - all you have to do is change the start number in the URL. _________________

I still get the Failed Sending Email message when I send PMs. Is anyone else getting this? _________________

The bug is back and it's messin' up the forums.
(heeey naaaaaaw, heeeeey naaaaaaaaw, the bug is back!)
In the meantime...everyone on the boards now has almost-locking powers:
1. Find thread you hate
2. Subscribe to thread, so that replies do not get made and the thread sinks to the bottom of the screen list
3. Enjoy posting in thread anyways as it plummets. _________________

so why is this subscribing function even activated? it really serves no purpose, seeing as theres a "view all my posts" option from the main page. i can see it being nice on other forum types which do not have this option (like an IDAS forum i frequent), but for here, its pretty useless. disabling it would be a simple and effective fix; one that would ensure the bug not return. _________________

It should be fixed. The problem was that the server ran out of disk space.
As for the calls to disable this function, it would help but only temporarily. When this problem occurs, ALL emailing stops, including registration emails. I would rather have this problem be exposed than to hide it and wonder why nobody has registered in several months. _________________

Does the fix include turning off email all together?
I was not alerted of my PM's or if someone has posted in a topic that I have requested an alert on. _________________

(1) No, turning off e-mail altogether didn't happen.
(2) If the PM/Message came at a time when the bug was happening, e-mails were failing to be sent. _________________
