|
|
Hi, long time DDR fan here ....... I just got myself a Cobalt Flux mat, and I'm keen to make it last as long as possible, it was pretty expensive!
In the manual it says that I must wear shoes when playing - why is this? Will the mat break more quickly if I play with bare feet, or are they saying this for health and safety reasons (less likely to fall off mat in shoes)? |

Walk over to your pad....
Ok, now stomp on the corner edge with your bare foot...
Didn't feel too good, did it? _________________

A cobalt flux's edges, last I remember, are sharp enough to make you hate your existence should you decide to play in bare feet. |

I'm sure Cobalt Flux is just covering their own arses here. They just don't want a lawsuit from someone for slipping or injuring themselves. As long as you won't go crying to the company if you get hurt, play however the hell you want to. I doubt the DDR police are going to break down your door and haul you away...though that would be pretty sweet if they did. _________________

They just want to protect your reputation so that when you go to the arcade people don't mock you for playing with out shoes _________________

I second this.
My feet third and fourth it.
Though I was in socks. Regardless, this statement is very true. _________________

When I got my first CF, I tried playing with socks/bare feet for a few days. My feet quickly started to hurt like hell. _________________

It's not the corners you have to worry about, it's the little spaces between each arrow. I have a scar on my foot from when I used to play barefoot (and at home, for that matter) and slid my foot across the arrows in Exotic Ethnic and bled all over my pad... heh... |

I think I heard that if you play without shoes the panels will crack faster. PLus I used to play with socks and once got a blood blister the size of my heel, on my heel. Couldn't walk on it for a few weeks ( Also had a few track meets during that time but thats another story) and after I got sick of limping I popped it. And if you do hands you could potentially cut your hand. _________________

You say that almost as if they crack often. Hands can hurt as well (one of my first hands on my CF hurt bad enough that I had to fail. Of course, that also happens on arcade pads, but really the moral of the story is to watch where you do hands. _________________

Ah my bad, I meant it would crack sooner if you played on feet than with shoes. But I don't have problems with hands anymore.
To OP: If you have a problem with wearing shoes on metal pads, put some gauze on the bottom of your feet when you play so you will be protected better. _________________

the way the cobalt flux is designed makes it next to impossible to play in socks. its basically one flat piece of lexan with cracks in it seperating the panels so you will slide like crazy and easily could fall. Bare feet is a very bad idea. I sliced open the bottom of my right foot a few years back on a local gaming centers fluxes. Plus, once you start sweating, traction becomes hard.
just learn how to play in shoes, you wont regret it. Its far nicer than playing in socks/barefoot, expecially on a flux. |

I personally play in shoes for the grip and the fact that with shoes you're less likely to mess your feet up, also wether you like it or not your feet are going to sweat which makes the pad slippery-- not to mention playing barefoot at an arcade is just sort of committing an unforgivable sin.. ^^
So I guess what I'm trying to say here is that if it's a pad that you paid for it doesn't really matter since its a personal investment, do as you please in my honest opinion.
