I've never seen anyone freestyle. The closest thing I've seen to it is Disconnected Disco Doubles.

I spin once in a while, and I mimic a pow wow when I play Afronova light doubles, but that's it.

I think it's dead. I've tried to revive it here. by placing top prizes. and even prizes for people just trying to. but no one ever wants to do it.

It's all about PA now.

No arguing, kiddies.

I still freestyle, but only for tournaments. And there aren't that many DDR tournaments in the Southeast.

You never stop wanting to dance.

Freestyling has been dying since I started playing DDR 6 years ago. When I started going to tournaments there was one resident freestyler in the area, and about 4 other freestylers who would show up to a tournament of 64 entrants. That was a little more than 4 years ago. Freestyling as far as I know is completely dead up in the NW, Seattle-Tacoma area.

Freestyling was sure fun to watch though. I remember DJ 8-Ball came up to Gameworks in Seattle and did some dancing. It was that kind of stuff that made DDR so cool.
Speaking of which, does anybody remember that Korean "A-Team"? Do they still got videos out?

Yea, I remember, they were great.

The only freestylers I see are...

Random 8 year olds "dancing" on DDR. I think that explains for itself.

I really think the PA has killed the game/sport. No longer is it about fun, but now it is about "OMG I PWNT U YOU NOOB I GOT NO GREATS! HA! YOU GOT ONE! YOU GOT A GREAT YOU SHOULD JUST QUIT YOU STUPID NOOB!"

What you think is fun isn't what everyone thinks. I play for PA/FA. If I get a bad score, it bothers me, so I play the song again to get a better score. I find this FUN. If the game wasn't fun, I wouldn't play it.

In all reality, If a match (touney or not) was that close, they reaction would be more like "woah, that was close! better luck next time!" If they call the opponent a noob, they're joking.
Most people I've seen in the dancing game community are very supportive of people not as good as them. Not all FA/PA players are elitist assholes.

And the few who are, unfortunately/fortunately (depends on how you see it) are horrible at the game anyways.

Yeah since most are just there to play like once or twice then leave.

As of late, freestyling on DDR has not been as popular as it once was (back in the 2000-2003 days).

Those were the days of 100+ entries for FS tournaments, and machines being given away as grand prizes, etc.

I still freestyle, as I am still learning different dance genres in order to increase my repertoire (current genre I'm learning: salsa).

Freestyle on DDR is awesome. E1.gif

I did notice a lot of the freestylers gravitated toward pump it up. Then it went kaput and so did the freestylers.

I tried freestyling a little when I first started out. Then I started picturing what I looked like. Fortunately I stopped doing that before anyone was subjected to blindness and a deep pity for me.
