do you need link data to play edits? I have *.mcs files created with DDReditMAX, but do I need to include any sort of link data, or do I just put these files onto a memory card and they'll work?

Care to be more specific? That really didn't make much sense.

sorry buddy you can't use a flash drive, you first gotta write the edits to a psx memcard with a dex drive, bring it to your ps2, copy over all edits in psx memcard to ps2 memcard in bios, do import edits outside library in ddr max, and you've got the edits.

There's a new DDR Extreme at the mall with some memory card slots in it. I don't have a PSX or a PS2 (I am stuck with GC's Mario Mix). Can I just buy a PSX card to use for the DDR? And, if so, what am I limited to doing with it?

This doesn't help the OP very much, but I thought I could toss it here rather than make a 2nd memory card help thread.

Recently a local arcade opened replacing the one I used to go to. They both had DDR EX, but the new one now has memory card slots. Before this, I had never tried to use slots, but I think I did everything right.

As far as I can tell, they don't work. The arcade operators don't know much about them, but if it deals with the operator menu then I could probably get them to help.

Prior to visiting the arcade, I started up 5th Mix PSX. I deleted everything from my (Sony) memory card, then I created "New" Arcade Link Data, as well as made an edit to Paranoia Eternal.

I don't see any Japanese text after inserting a credit as far as I remember. Once I put in my credit, I tried putting the card in both sides, but nothing different happened. No noise or message signified that I had inserted a card.

Also, IIRC, the LED is lit up around one side of the memory card slots, but not both. I'd really like to be able to use these slots, but I don't know much about them. As far as I know, they might not be plugged in, or they might be disabled. Apparently they're receiving power, though.

Is there something I should check in the Operator Menu?

That's the official DDReditMAX Wiki page. It's developed by a Japanese guy.

Not every link. I just downloaded it from there. Not trying to be snide or anything, but there's a link in the sidebar that says, in English, "Download". Clicking that takes you to a page that offers you a download in EXE and a download in ZIP. The EXE link worked for me, I didn't try the ZIP download.

I checked back with my arcade about the memory card slots. Apparently I'm just dim-witted, because both sides of the memory card slots do indeed light up. The reason I only thought one did was because most of the people who play there only use the right side. I'm retarded. riiight.gif

Anyway, we went to the Memory Card options in the Operator's Menu, and sure enough, Memory Cards were disabled. However, it was "grayed out" as well, so we could not enable them. The only thing we could choose was something like Network Test (I think?), which we tried. The screen stayed the same for a long time, so we eventually quit.

I'm guessing that the power is being supplied to the Memory Card slots (obviously), but that whatever sort of data cable is used is not plugged in correctly. Does that seem like the case? If so, can anyone provide me with pictures of where to plug it in? Unless it's obvious, I seriously doubt that the arcade technician would know how.

There should be two connections between the memory card unit and the main System 573 unit. One is for power and goes from the memory card unit back into the main JAMMA harness. The other is a data cable. It's a standard USB cable, but from what I have been told, the interface is not actually USB.

Ho, as I've told you before, you are fricking sweet.

That's exactly what I needed. Thanks a ton. Now maybe we can play some edits down here.
