There are two people who write an essay in college. One works very hard on his paper, studying his sources, while the other browses online for "ready made papers." See what I did there? I made a totally unrelated comparison using extremes.
Your logic is flawed, as the comparison makes it seem as if the guy not using the bar is just as lazy as some buttocks playing Stepmania in a college class. Meanwhile, the diligent one stands on two corners and taps his feet on every run. You're justifying a guy running a marathon in a mech.
I wouldn't have used this argument at all at first. I didn't want to bother arguing, but then I saw people throwing you lavish praise. |

LOL, I don't think they would make someone in college read The Catcher in the Rye. At least, I would hope not. It's pretty basic reading (although I really loved reading it). The whole point of that argument was to point out the futility of what he said. It wasn't a good argument at all. The comparison wasn't an analogy at all because it lacked connection. And the statement implies that anyone who doesn't use the bar isn't going to be able to get higher than a C, when I know for a fact that it isn't true from my own personal playing experience. I may not be a pro, but I've never had the chance to play on arcade machine because there aren't any within driving distance. The closest one is in Kansas City. I'm not that worried about whether people are impressed with how I play a game to go over to another city just to play it with a bunch of people who will treat anyone who gets below a four star like shit.
The fact that I don't want to use a bar doesn't mean that I'm terrible at the game. It means that I prefer playing the game normally. I can even justify using a bar. I don't care if you use a bar. Playing Pump It Up, I would use the bar if I got really exhausted. But playing In The Groove, I never would have built the stamina I needed if I had focused on using a bar. The shuffles in the four arrow directional layout never made me require a bar. You're free to use it if you won't to, but the fact remains that I prefer not using it, and I don't understand why everyone thinks they should insist on me using it and ridicule me for not doing so.
Crossovers were created so people could do crossovers, and spins were created so people could do spins. Do you think staircase streams were really created so someone could stand on the bracket and tap their feet back and forth? That's what I find irritating, not just using the bar. I don't need to hear arguments about how I'm not dedicated because I don't stay stationary while playing a game that is supposed to emulate dancing. That's ludicrous. If everyone stood on the corner of the arrows and rocked back and forth for hours they would never even learn how to do Doubles.
Why should I feel obligated to adopt the absolute laziest techniques for playing just because people feel a score is more valid if it achieved that way? My 95% isn't as good as the 95% of my friend who stood on the brackets the entire time, sleeping on the bar? I wouldn't even find any enjoyment or purpose in the game if I played that way, and the games only benefits of health would be lost.

My whole point was that trying to counter your argument with "plagiarism is ILLEGAL" is pretty silly, since it's not against the law.
But I still don't understand what the last page of messages has to do with t-shirts... _________________

Hey, your logic is flawed too. They fucking put the bar on the machine. There are no rules. In the In The Groove manual, there is no line that says you may not hold the bar for support while playing the game. Trust me, I have one. DDR, maybe it says its for balance and safety issues, but nobody likes ddr, and this is the itg part of the forum anyway. (I do agree that DDR with the bar is for faggots, but thats because its so much more fun without, I wont make 5 paragraph essays on why people shouldnt use it.) If the bar was a cheat you needed to download from www.codejunkies.com, then sure, I'll agree that it shouldnt be allowed. But it is physically attached to the machine.
And the example was just to make people laugh because I said stepmania in it. Hey, it worked.
I could also say its the same as an open note test. The teacher hands out a sheet of paper a week in advance with almost all the information required to ace the test. Both students study their notes (just like everyone here is geeky and studies stepcharts), but one uses them on the test, and the other doesnt. Yeop, you guessed it, the person who used something that was spoon fed to him on a silver platter got 100%, and the idiot with no logic barely passes. I'm sure when the colleges (groovestats) looks at the two scores, theyre going to accept the person with the 70% because they didnt use the notes on their tests. Sure, they have self-pride. But nobody cares. My Vertex quad is more impressive than someone that 99s it no bar. Someones pass on it with the bar is more impressive than someone that fails without the bar.
People that dont use the bar probably also use Macs. Theres no way dancing games was the first time theyve picked something that has major controversy and then argues with anyone that doesnt completely agree. Actually its a lot like dancing games. Both sides are idiots. Linux is better. (And by Linux I mean iidx)
I really dont know where I went with this post, and didnt go back and proofread or anything, so if any of it makes sense (most of it should, basically nobody gives a frick about people that dont use the bar) then I must be good at typing or something. I probably just spewed out random bullshit, but who cares, this is ddrfreak. _________________

Hahahaha damn Blake i've never seen you this worked up but yeah pretty much everything you said is true. I'm not just saying that because you're my friend, its because it is true.
Edit: i went to code junkies and couldn't download the bar oh man i guess its not a cheat. Shoooooooooooooooooooooot |

Lol just how did this get into a bar argument anyway? o.O After a certain post i seriously thought another topic was misslinked into this one or something--it was pretty random.
Anyway the bar is a perfectly legit thing to use. The truth is that if you want to constantly better yourself and keep passing harder songs/get better scores, then the bar is the way to go. It's best to help your body play the game (which is ultimately the goal-- you playing for entertainment/recognition) by saving stamina, than to let the game beat your body and ultimately not being able to play the game any longer =p (if that made any sense lol) Unless your goal is to lose weight then i guess you could prefer not using the bar (though i myself prefer bar'ing 6000 steps a game than non-bar'ing the 1000 your shorter stamina would allow). Or if you want to "dance" or freestyle or w/e. (I don't think Roxor has made any assumption that their made was suppossed to simulate dancing--though i guess i wouldn't know, and am at least glad their game's name does not state it; Unlike DDR--whose name claims to revolutionize dancing (big lol, probably the reason for initial hate towards the game and those who play it constantly)
Anyway i must be rambling on. Point is that if you want to use the bar use it, and if you don't want to, then don't. The way i see it, is that in the near future i prefer bar'ing 15's than non-bar'ing 13's (which already are easy enough with a bar and practice for stamina) |

HAHAHA. Thanks. Like I said, I just don't get why people give me poopy for not using the bar. And especially on DDR. It's just stupid as poopy to see someone using the bar on 7s (but at the same time, Kevbo does it, and when I pointed it out someone got really pissed). I appreciate your argument, though. I kind of see the sarcastic logic I put into mine. I don't mind getting it back. I'm glad that someone else can laugh at the bragging poopy every spews out.
And yeah, on the internet, people are going to see the score and not know who was doing what. Not to mention that you could just lie about the score anyway. Without a screenshot, who knows the difference? Really, to a person who doesn't play, it is going to look really stupid if some guy is rocking back and forth on the bracket so you won't be getting so much recognition (other than maybe the people might come back to show their friends the "retard who plays standing still"). But yes, among the community, most people wouldn't give a poopy. But I don't see why that should mandate that I use the bar. But I'm still hearing the thing that my scores are always going to be 70% if I don't use a bar. That's total bullshit.
Everything that could have possibly been stated has already been stated, though.
Either way, I wish that guy would come back. I want to see if he's working on a Xuxa shirt.
And on the thing about no one giving a poopy about DDR, those are the forums which are most posted on, the ITG one is basically dead. I was pretty pissed when I saw some SN2 vids and the syncing was even worse. Those bastards made a stepchart that was all freezes and poorly synced, requiring you to spin. That pissed me off so much. Alot of spins with freezes are guesswork. How can you guess when it's not going to be on the right beat? You pretty much HAVE to be looking at the screen. |

He/she is back, but apparently too busy debating bar usage to be working on any new shirts. Bang up job, guys... _________________

I don't know that he ever agreed to make one, I just suggested it. He didn't seem against the idea, but he never said he would. I'm personally really hoping for one with the step chart. |
