| I agree with you saying it might make it harder for those people playing easy songs but maybe they just want to try and say what it's like. They probably see more experienced players using it so the beginner might think the bar will help them get to the level that the experienced person is at. I guess they might not realize they are making it harder for themselves but they're just trying a new way of playing. Seeing people use the bar on easy songs doesn't bother me but seeing people go back to the center is what bothers me. Of course, thats a different story. |

Wow... so many pages of arguement on this.
The way I look at it now, 99.999% of the people that say using the bar is bad/evil are SO terrible/inexperienced at DDR that their opinions on the subject don't even matter to me. Let them play the game for a few years and work their way up through everything... then once they stop sucking they can re-evaluate their opinions. Until then, they are just noobs or idiots.(there is a pretty distinct difference) |

IMO, it was just an overglorified stereotype.
I hate people who like to put down bar users like the rest of us, but this is how I see that post.

Ya'know, in Asia, we don't have this problem.
We have problems when people try to pull stunts without the bar and smash their head on the pad/floor/screen/etc.
When nearly shop on the street has techno flaring and would-be breakers out there, you head to the mall and its a bunch of spiky haired sandal wearing Asian stereotypes endangering their lives aboard a PIU machine.

For reference, I've cleared all of ITG singles expert no bar. I also use the bar 99.95% of the time. I also NEVER no bar when i play doubles. I'm just saying people should have some experience and skill before they tell better players they are doing something wrong. |

I don't really care about bar raping, it bothers me a little, but I do it every once and while myself, so I can't complain.

And all I was implying, which I think might have been lost to my own fault, is that one can't generalize against all non-bar users that dislike the bar, as opposed to preference.

well if you hold it to keep ur balance (ex. only with 1 hand), then its okay, but like the manual said, do not lean on it (ex. lifting urself up technique and using both hands to hold it.), thats basically cheating, and breaking the ddr commandments.
so yeah, only people with bad balance should use it, with 1 hand...

The term "Bar raping" in itself is derogatory, so it shows you have at least some negative feelings toward it.
Just pointing that out.

BTW, for the record I use the bar...have been ever since In the Groove came out in 2004. Not for all songs mind you but for around 75% of the songs (8's and higher on 3x usually).

| I use the bar 24/7 and I'm proud of it. I don't have to. I can do I'm pretty sure all old 10's without the bar but I just like it because it helps with stomping. |

otherwise we wouldn't even be having this discussion. Bar is there for use. Have you ever seen a high-end tournament before? EVERYONE uses the bar. You wanna know why? BECAUSE ITS THERE. Get over yourself, anyone who thinks using it is "cheating". I no-bar on DDR for non-10s, and I've passed everything on Expert on ITG except for Bloodrush, Determinator and the 13s. So yeah, I know how to no bar, and using the bar isn't cheating, it's a playstyle.
