That argument is completely invalid. Yes, originality is important. But among two products with similar features, the quality of the features is far more important than which one came first.

And you're arguing this without ever even trying ITG? Give me a break.

And I'll probabaly never try ITG as a matter of principle. And you're right - the quality of the features is very important, but I feel originality outweighs that. And yes, I'll admit once again, that this is a stupid topic. E15.gif

Who really hates ITG? nobody.

Why make a pointless thread when you can keep it to yourself? I mean, I don't care if you hate ITG but then you must be really feeling stupid.

Go ahead, play a crappy DDR mix just because you think the originality outweighs all. See how you will be the only one playing it.

and what's the point of hating ITG if you didn't even try it, better yet opening this thread?

I like Taco Bell.

This topic was made purely from the product of boredom. Also, you call SN crappy?! I think that's one of the best arcade games around! The only arcade game that beats that has to be The House of the Dead 4, meaning in terms of the quality of the machine - not the game itself. In my other thread, no one really knew, but do you think they're going to make SN2's machine even better?

Seriously, play on an ITG dedi-cabinet once. If supernova was on an ITG cabinet/synced correctly it'd be 10x more tolerable.

And on originality: mines, hands, mods marathons(okay DDR had trick.)

How was Extreme better? It had a lot of crappy new songs, and the ones that were decent out of those new songs, they stuck in SN. Extreme's screen sucks, the sound sucks, let's not forget it's running off of a PS1, and SN made everything better, especially if you're into the different mixes of each song. Also, about the fact that ITG copied DDR, that's enough of a reason to say it's not as good. Look at Street Fighter. That was the original popular 2D fighter, and it still remains the best 2D fighter with SFIII: Third Strike. The other 2D fighters don't really match up to the quality of the game. Originality is very important.

This post is funny. Here's some information you probably didn't know. Extreme was a great mix with tons of effort put into it. Its boss songs were very original at the time and the easier songs were very well synced and were actually fun to play. Running off a PS1 (or actually, similar hardware to a PS1) isn't a problem if you're aiming to have fun. Why would anyone even bother criticizing the graphical aspects of a game if he's aiming to AAA a song? It's a trivial aspect that only the most nitpicky would care about. The 3D in SN really doesn't look that much more appealing anyway.

About the whole copycat thing... Sure, copycats may not always be original, but a lot of the time they improve on things the original sucked at. Like stepharts for one.

And calling SF II and Third Strike the best 2D fighters ever is a completely narrow minded like thing to say. Many people prefer the Guilty Gear and King of Fighters series over them. Yes, just like ITG, Guilty Gear brought new features to the table and became one of the best fighters in the world (though Third Strike is nearly flawless).

You don't play many arcade games, do you. And knowing Konami, SN2 will probably be identical to SN1 or even worse (oh wow just like how SN is worse than Extreme).

SN has bad pads, horrible backgrounds, and song syncing that makes Chuck Norris cry. The sound is not noticeable between Extreme and SN. Crappy new songs? We got Cartoon Heroes, Irrestiblement, Hyper Eurobeat, Love Love Shine, 1998 - all incredibly great songs. Not to mention hard but fun boss songs (Konami executive working on SN's new boss songs: "LOL LEZ MAKE LOTSA BPM CHANGES IN DIS STEPCHART, OK MOMMY?"). Who cares if it ran off a PS1; DDR games don't need to do anything better. Extreme was probably the last great installment of DDR that we'll see. Everything about Extreme is better than SN.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa!!!!!! Hold it there! SuperNOVA's sound is AMAZINGLY better than Extreme's sound system. You obviously haven't played on a loud one then. At a couple of arcades I go to that have SuperNOVA, they have it LOUD. It sounds very clear and nice, unlike the "cassette" sound Extreme had. In fact, on a forum or FAQ, I heard that Max 2's sound system was better than Extreme's! In that regard, I know I'm correct about the sound. Nobody can change my mind about that. Trust me - I'm pretty much obsessed with arcade machines, and have looked at them very closely when there's no line to use them, have took the time out to listen to the sound comparing it to the other DDRs that are around it, have looked at the marquee so close to the point where I can see the atoms forming it, and have stared at the 29" screen for minutes at a time, and have noticed amazing clarity compared to Extreme. I've also noticed that the marquee holder is flat instead of curved like the previous DDR machines. I've literally sex with it countless times. Do not argue with me on the things mentioned above. It's factual, unlike what the topic is about. E7.gif

No seriously buddy, SN was like a "Stepped on and shat upon" version of DDR 1st Mix. The stepcharts in that game are a joke, as is the whole machine. SN2 I'll give a try just for E-Amuse, but I only play SN1 because it's so friggin cheap in another town close by E10.gif

It's kind of weird, that on DDR Freak, I haven't heard ANYONE on these forums rave about the newest DDR out. It's just bizarre. I can't believe people actually say, "I like 5th Mix better". What the hell makes them like that better than the 301 songs on SuperNOVA? I mean, just the fact that SN is "the new DDR" makes it better than all the others, due to the fact that the quality has gone up.gif

Nobody's hardly EVER on DDR SuperNOVA.

I personally dont like ITG vey much. But that post loses so badly its incredible. Acually play the damn game first before you judge it so harshly.

Nitpick: The Street Fighter series didn't really take off until Street Fighter II. The original Street Fighter was actually a rather poor game (Not to mention that there had been 2D fighters, albeit crude ones, prior to SF--most notably Karate Champ).

Anyway, while the worship of ITG2 sometimes bugs me (To hear a lot of people tell it, Roxor has never made a wrong move [One abbreviation destroys this myth: R14]), particularly in light of its creation, I must admit it is a damn good game. Don't ask me how; I'm fond of saying that it happened despite Roxor Games, not because of them.

OMG THAT PROVES YOU MUST KNOW SO MUCH ABOUT DANCE GAMES. I DON'T THINK ANYONE ELSE NOTICED THAT.

Songs don't make the game. Get that through your head. 5th mix was one of the best mixes, despite not having 300 songs.

In most cases, I believe quanity is better than quality, although both are in SN which is why I find it amazing. I don't like anything old though. For example, my favorite game of all time is The House of the Dead 4, but I say to myself "this came out in 2005, so it's already 2 years old"! With SuperNOVA, I'm already saying to myself "fuck this shit, it's already a year old"! With the game DOA4, I still think it's a great game, but simply because it came out 2 years ago, it's "not that good" anymore. But, 2D fighters never get old because you can't make 2D graphics that much better, unlike 3D graphics. In DDRSN, the characters' clothes are starting to look kind of weird when they dance, almost "outdated" much like most of the PS2's games. Unfortunately, it looks like they recycled all of SN's characters into SuperNOVA without enhancing the graphics and added more characters into the game. I'm still very excited about SN2 though. Now me and my cousin don't have to fight about the "Character" option in SN. He always likes Emi, and I always like Jenny! Too bad Battle Without Honor or Humanity didn't make it into SN2 from the home version of SN in the U.S.

okay well then whatever you say

the majority of those "oooh lol 300 songs" were on extreme before they were on supernova. They have already been played, people are already sick of them, they wanted new material. Unless if you had never played extreme (which isn't really our problem), 300 songs isn't really that big of a deal.

I am not sure of these numbers, but i think there are somewhere around 70 new songs on sn, most of which are songs that have been taken from iidx or gf/dm and run through an autogen program and slapped on a cabinet. The songs that specifically are new to supernova are basically naoki's healing d vision, fascinations (which wouldn't surprise me if naoki was high when he wrote these songs laugh.gif ) and my only shining star.

The small amounts of new songs (from other rhythm games, and new songs entirely) aren't even worth your time, let alone the 200+ old ones. I agree repetition is good if they are classics, but i'm pretty sure that we are sick of the ones they put on there, srsly bring some <4th mix stuff back.

You are a moron.

HAHAHAHA LOL SUPERNOVA IS BETTER BECAUSE IT HAS 300 SONGS. Well How long has ITG been out 4-5 years? WELL THE SPEAKERS ARE WORSE THAN SUPERNOVA!!!! No you could have just been playing on a bad machine.

ITG is about 10x better than supernova.

Lets see here.

1. More on sync
2. Better cuts
3. Better pads
4. They actually send out revisions
5. You can save scores onto a usb drive and take screenshots
6. Funner mods
7. Its more challenging
8. A 10+ song doesnt have to be 300+ BPM
9. The stepcharts are way better
10. You can play custom songs
11. More choice of mods(speed mods and perspective mods are huge for me)
12. You can make edits and share them
13. In ddr every song is basically SDG able where as in ITG Some songs havent even been tri starred(99%)
14. There cheaper
15. AND finally Roxor actually listened to their fans while konami just ignored them

There and thats just off the top of my head.
