An Ignition is the best choice for you right now. It's not expensive or hard to use like metal pads, although that would work best in the long run. _________________

just this year 2007, i started playing DDR... i started with supernova on my PS2.. i played beginner upto difficult on pad and expert on PS2 controller.. whenever i go to the arcade of our nearby mall, i am always astounded by DDR players in our vicinity... i thought to myself, that someday, i will be one of them... i was such a noob (january) .... i can't even finish a song in trick (standard/difficult) difficultry without making a fool of myself... however, through thorough practice, i can now clear maniac (expert/heavy) difficulty songs.... up to 8 footer only though.... whew....that's about it.. started 2nd week of january, stopped the whole february and got back byt 2nd week of march... hehehe.... |

Hmm...my story huh?
Well, I'm 19 now, and have been playing DDR or Dancing Stage here as its called for roughly a year now.
I used to see people playing it also, but never actually wanted to go on the machine (don't know why really)
My friend though had Euromix on his PS1 so when I was round, we'd sometimes play.
Still, that didn't make me want to buy one, even though I did enjoy it when I was round. I didn't have a console necessary to play the series though.
Anyway, a year or so ago I saw a documentary on this guy, Kyle Morris.
He actually has a lot of the problems I sometimes encounter, so I saw himself in me in a way.
Anyway, I went on the Internet the next day and looked him up, and found that there was a program called Stepmania for the PC where you could play without having to have a console.
Since then, I've been hooked, downloading songs, playing..
I bought 2 softpads for the program that I play on often but have got a lot better at keyboard playing (Being able to pass 12's in ITG) but on a mat, I can pass 9's.
I was terrible at first on Stepmania, but heck, after a few days, I was getting AA's on the keyboard, and now, I can get AAA's in a lot of songs.
I'm not so good on the mat though.
This led to going to my local arcade, where me and 2 mates go who are also into DDR, to play and have fun Its great when you get a crowd thinking your really good and then clapping when you finish a song. A really good feeling (Especially if it involves a really cute girl! )
I tend to do a lot of crossovers, like left to right, right to left, since one foot doesn't seem fast enough to go from left to down for example fast without the other moving too. One of my friends though can do that, so doesn't really use crossovers.
Its weird how there can be so many playing styles..
Anyhow, about four days ago, I ordered a Cobalt Flux which should be coming next week, and I hope with that (since my mats aren't very responsive), I can get as good as I am on the keyboard, since going to the arcade all the time isn't really an option
I'm hoping to hook up a cheap PC in my living room just for playing Stepmania connected to the TV. Thats the plan anyway.
Anyway, thats my story _________________

The first time I saw DDR I thought that it would be no sweat to get into heavy mode. My friend was a heavy player and asked me if I wanted to play and I said ok. I played Lets Groove on light and completly humiliated myself. I thought that even though I failed miserably I would continue to play.
I didn't actually get hooked until my sister bought DDR Max 2 and two horrible pads. I practiced for many months until I finally got to heavy. Now I'm goin to my first tournament in an Anime Convention and I hope to continue to play for the fun of it.
( DDR player since 2005 ) |

first time i started playing was at cal state LA. i was 13 taking summer stuff @ cal state LA, and this one girl who was like a senior in high school started tlaking to me and asked if i wanted to play. it started with the 3rd mix korean mix haha. i'm 19 now, and ever since then i've been playing at arcades (didn't want to get the game @ home, don't have it @ home, IMHO it belongs in the arcades) so every summer, i would try and play. i started doubles 3 years ago. i mainly play to dance/freestyle, not caring about getting all the arrows n what not. started with 3rd, then jumped to max2, extreme, and now supernova. never played 4th, 5th, or 6th.

Well my story is that I initially started playing on DDR Mario Mix. My parents gave it to me as a christmas present in 05 and since then I haven't stopped playing.
After that I started playing DDR Extreme on the arcades till today. It's a very addictive game |

I started in jan 05 when some random over the internet said lol let's meet for ddr. I was on beginner and light for about 4 months, standard for another 6, then I started heavy and was told to download stepmania and PRACTISE. Ever since then I've improved quickly, recently getting some tough AAA's like HVAM, Rhythm and Police, Sakura heavy, Exotic Ethnic, Ska a go go and A Challenge. _________________

Well, let's see...
I first saw DDR in an arcade in New Orleans back in 2002... had heard about it but never saw it up close.
However, I didn't try it until December of '06. I had bought Ultramix 2 with the pad for my little brother, so he could play it on the Xbox with his friends. He never even took it out of the box.
So I confiscated it and brought it home, and have been playing it ever since. I only started doing Standard over the past few weeks, but it's been going well. I also bought Ultramix 4 and love Master of the Universe... been playing it on light, hoping to advance.
I used to go to raves a lot back in the day, and DDR almost seems like an extension of that |

Not a big story here. Played at an arcade once (about ten songs because I was addicted instantly) like a year ago. I Started on 5 and 6 footers. I had played FlashFlashRevolution before that so i had the rythem and reading abilities.
About 2 months ago I decided to but a used ps2, DDR Supernova, and a mat and I've been playing pretty hardcore for the past month. Recently my best accomplishement is a AA on Doll heavy. I think that's a pretty huge accomplishment for one month.
So now I'm getting ITG2, DDR Extreme 2, and a metal pad for the summer. I'm going to whore these dancing games for the whole summer baby. Can't wait haha. Hopefully make some vidsand improve. |

It's a long story, so bear with it.
# When did you first start playing DDR? (and how long have you been playing)
It was around December 1999 that I first heard of the game...there was a news segment about it that took place at a Gameworks slightly far from a city I live in(Tempe). I also got to play it for the first time when I went on vacation to Vegas; the very first US version was at the New York, New York casino on the 2nd floor. I recalled being very nervous, and I failed at Boom Boom Dollar. I was 11 at the time...during the summer I went away to Vietnam, I saw a 2nd Mix and the True Kiss Destination version of it in some places. I didn't really play; I just watched after I failed my first game. When I came home, my sister burned me copies of the first 3 mixes and got me a soft pad: 3rd mix was my favorite out of the three because it had more songs than the 1st and 2nd combined, and I think the assist setting was introduced in training mode. It really helped me out with the heavy steps.
It's a little hard to recall how long ago it was I started to play ddr...I think it was around summer of 2000 or 2001(me = 12 years old) that I began going to the arcade every week to play, around the weekend. I knew of two arcades close by within walking distance of each other...or three if Vans Skatepark counted. One had a 3rd Mix Korean Version 2, one had a USA and a 4th Mix+, and one had a 5th Mix. So much has changed over the past few years. Arcade management changes, places change, versions have upgraded(maybe downgraded for a short time).
If I count how long I've been practicing at home and playing in the arcade combined and count by the summers, I have been playing for 7 years now.
# What got you to start playing? (initial interest)
At the time, I was starting to get into music games; Bust a Groove was a big influence to my growing interest, so I thought, I'll like DDR as well. I was drawn to music I've never heard before or have heard of but didn't find it interesting at first. I was initially interested in playing because I wanted to play all the songs and see what they were like.
# What made you keep playing? (why do you like playing currently)
In all honesty, I'm surprised that I'm still playing though I've learned to play other videogames as well. I'm 19 now...dang it feels like I've played a long time.
It's the challenge to get high scores that makes me keep playing, or so it seems. I've been having this drive to push myself to pass the remaining 10 footers recently. And yeah, maybe I'd like to get more girls to play as well.
Anyway...with some time, maybe I'll somehow digress to playing at home on a metal pad then eventually stop playing altogether soon enough. |
