Hip-hop is much too bland and uninteresting. Plus, Konami has no idea to make it (read: DDR Club Version).

you best not be referring to the m-flo songs and all there awesomeness.

and hip-hop is most certainly dancable....just play PIU. but then you have to consider the fact is that although hip hop songs are dancable, the steps cant get as hard/fast as techno, as most hip hop songs have slower BPMs and in pump they're mostly meant for freestyling.

but i say, just type up the artist you want on bemanistyle, and be happy. they usually have just about everything you want(although a majority of rock songs just arent dancable and it feels...ackward...a select few work tho).

I think I get more hyper from listening to Violent Pornography by System of a Down then listen to a slow beat from rap.

However, the song Temperature is pretty fast beat.

Hip-Hop and slower heartbeats? I guess Soft Rock will make a heart stop if one listens to it for too long. Right.

If Temperature is all you can think of, then I suggest you revisit hip-hop for awhile.

For the record, I tend to think the main reason why hip-hop sucks more in translation to stepchart when comparing to the techno/pop is because the musical portion (not lyrical) is mostly constant and has less supporting melodies. As a result, there is less capability for the stepchart to have variety that contends with stepcharts for the more commonly used genres. This is why the stepcharts for some of the hip-hop songs that still made it in DDR compromise by having the arrows also follow the lyrical rhythm on occasional parts. However, the product here is a less-inspired chart from the music itself. It's not to say that many hip-hop songs aren't capable in DDR; it just means that the majority of them are less substantial than the staple genres currently used. I could be wrong, though.
One should also factor in the fact that DDR is keeping the thematic of an overall light-hearted rave-pop atmosphere, with the hint of mainly speed techno for the more serious elements of the game.

Someone said bpm is a glaring issue, but I beg to differ. When I look at some of the slower-tempo'd songs in ITG, they still translated pretty well as high-end 9-blocks. The Game is one example. It's not a hip-hop song, but it did have a slow tempo.

uhh....the game wasnt really a slow song(im guessing off the top of my head....130 BPM??). i also thought the experts steps lacked fun or originality. it was basically doing those 16th-8th-16th beats over and over again for a majority of the song.

Just because you don't like Fall Out Boy doesn't make it a bad song. It's catchy and has a good chart.

I'm not a big fan of Fall Out Boy, but that song was at least decent.

And the chart wasn't bad, actually.

Well, I meant The Game's music itself, not the bpm it was given. While the expert steps weren't the greatest thing ever, I thought they did decent as a more intense chart for a relatively slower tempo song (music-wise, not bpm-wise).

You did say it was "proven", which implies that there was some experimentation done on the subject. So, your definition of proven is: something that happens to me in some very specific cases that can be generalized to everyone and all cases?

How I see it...leave the top 40/hip-hop/mainstream etc. stuff mostly outside (note the mostly, so no one says i'm saying all) of your dancing games and keep a lot of original songs/techno/whatever inside your dancing games. It's more appealing and lasting that way instead of playing songs you've heard OVER AND OVER AND OVER by artists that no one will most likely remember in 5 years. Hell, even the charts for those types of songs are most likely to suck (bad to freestyle to, no fun factor, no challenge).

The only game I think that pulls the mainstream stuff off well is the Guitar Hero series, and even then, quite a few of the songs aren't COMMONLY known.

But if you want mainstream stuff, stick to the home version of DDR, preferably the US versions.

Also, i'm not a big fan of J-pop, sorry :/.

Some of the double-time beats (See Slow Jamz by Twista) could be killer in DDR, if it only supported 32nd notes...

Speaking of rock & hip-hop, I'm pretty sure PoMu & IIDX have been wasting a lot of talent, to the point they leave Bemani altogether, although I've seen it happen on GFdm at a lesser extent.

Anway, I'd like to see DDR get Ai Suzuki and Pink Capsule permanently join the AC DDR staff. The last time I checked, these two got underused on GFdm, while DDR is understaffed (read: 5 full-time composers!?).

What he intended to mean was, "Nothing blatantly thrashy-bashy" in DDR.

That mean no "Mad Blast" from GF 9th/DM 8th....Oh, wait, UM songpack.....

& Ai Suzuki's songs are ALWAYS fast on GF/DM (& cool. & hard). Plus, the one's on Masterpiece Silver & Gold are based off classical music.
