A co-worker of mine, who happens to be female, and i were having a discussion about ddr tonight. A question came up, why aren't there more females playing ddr? A few quick google searches didn't reveal anthing meaningful. Only thing I can come up with is a large population of males that already play and the women feel intimidated to play. Is there anything medical (Ie: brain differences and such) or social that prevents females from enjoying this sport?

I don't expect scientific studies quoted here, but what are some of your thoughts?

possible that the testerone in the males makes us enjoy it more or maybe it is that we can be a bit competitive with DDR or take it way to seriously, thats my theory.. but other then that, i would like to see more female DDR/ITG players

Same reason why girls try not to do anything in PE and why less girls play sports: it's sweaty, physical, and not very dainty.

Here in Toronto we have tons of girls who play ITG. We're pretty good, too.

To be fair, this thread is slightly different from the other monster from a few months ago, since this is more focused on the why, not the are there female DDR players. Meaning, this has slightly more potential as long as we don't have too many people claiming the unpossibility of female arrow smashers.

I agree with this. I don't like sweating either.
but I think girls play DDR they just do it at home because they play on light and begginer and dont need a "showdown" in the arcade.. cuz my freind's mom came over here, played ONE SONG on extreme2 and proceded to order DDR on the internet before she left my house..that was so awesome...see females become instantly hooked too but I think the girls just play at home, cuz in my dorm all my freinds play DDR with me but they wouldnt pay 50cent to go play on light in the arcade when they can do it in my room nameen?

but of course this is generally speaking cuz I'm a girl and I can beat Lom heavy no bar(at home)....

It's funny, over the past (almost) five years I've been on this forum how much this topic pops up. laugh.gif At least this one is a little different. I'd say it's probably because there are less girls playing video games than guys, but that's just my opinion.

They're too busy making me pie. E13.gif

There are 2 girls here that play on expert, one being a bit better than me and the other kicks my buttocks at doubles. And also inspired me to play DDR in the first place.

Just less visible, maybe. Doesn't actually mean fewer.

It's mostly Goths here. I know it sounds old.

I found some good players, even a good ITG player that plays on Expert.

You would think a corny game like this, more girls would play.

Probably fewer girls play than guys since, indeed, the generic girl isn't into video games.

I don't think it has much to do with playing at home/arcade though. Ever since I moved to where I have access to an ITG machine, I can't stand playing at home. Sure it's more expensive, but the social atmosphere hre is awesome, plus home scores don't really, well, "count".

No.

If they were more open to it, I think plenty of girls would play DDR. Just look at how much they enjoy dancing! E13.gif
