No CD comes with it. You get the pad and you get an XBox adapter and a USB adapter that comes with it. You might want to just take off the USB adapter from the pad and then put it back on again and push it in firmly. Then put it in your USB slot on your computer.
It should register as some sort of joystick or gamepad type thing. As long as it knows something is there, you then should be able to map the buttons to whatever you want in whatever programs you want. You'll have to do this manually for each program you use it with.
I've tried this thing under Linux too and it works fine. Try ignoring that error message and seeing if you can use it anyway. Otherwise, something may be wrong with your pad. _________________

I think something is wrong with my pad.. or possibly just the USB portion of the pad.. because I plug it in to the computer and it can't be recognized. |

If you have an XBox you can try the XBox connector adapter thing and see if that works. If that works but the USB adapter doesn't, yeah. Maybe you could buy just the adapter? Of course if that doesn't work then you know it's something more serious.
It should pop up the words "Red Octane" and then something or other in the name of the found device though. You can use other USB hardware with that computer, right?
Try just using it anyway though, ignoring the messages and see if it works.

Have one of these computers maybe? http://www.usbman.com/Guides/Computers%20with%20Known%20USB%20Problems.htm _________________

Yeah, if you do find an XBox you're also probably going to need one of the Ultramixes as well unless you can somehow use the dance pad on other games for it. I don't know that much about the XBox because I don't have one.
I know on the PS2 there is the occasional rare game where it doesn't make much sense to use the dance pad but that, for some reason, it'll let you use it anyway. Capcom Classics Collection, for example. But most games that aren't dance games will pop a message up telling you to insert a DualShock controller and won't let you play until you do. Not sure if it's like that on an XBox or not. _________________

I just got a 3.0 recently and am using it with Mario Mix (using a "Gamecube Joybox" adapter, or some such name). So far I'm super pleased with the pad and the adapter. No problems at all. The only minor complain I have is that it has a fairly strong odor, which I think is the foam. Kind of like a new car smell, but not exactly. I presume it will just go away with time. In any case it isn't a big deal. Don't know how it will hold up down the line, but it certainly seems well made so I'd expect it would last. FYI, I bought mine direct from Red Octane and it came with the PS2/Xbox/USB connector.
One question: with it also came a short audio mini-jack extension cable. What is the purpose of that? |

Odor goes away after a little bit.
And the cord is for the Xbox Headset so you can dance AND trashtalk people on XBL. _________________

My pad works fine but it moves around a lot when I play. I play on carpet, is there any way I could get it to not move around so much? _________________

Oddly enough,
So yeah my pad is screwed up hey, I didn't realize 3.0 was gonna suck worse than 2.0
upon first examination I was unsure of what was wrong and paranoid.
Upon looking for fixing options and irate that RO doesn't offer and repair options I decided to go in and take a look.
before my pad would ghost arrow, making step sometimes while not even standing on the pad and sometimes just be stuck, Today I opened it up all the way, Warranty and RO be darned, I was appalled to find out the little foam stuff half of them were extremely grey and the areas mostly separating the arrows were exposed in some parts (Explaining why I wouldn't be able to press arrows sometimes while standing on other arrows) My half-arssed mod consisted of folded toilet paper cutting some cheap holes and some tape, I ran out of tape and wasn't able to fix it completely , but from about halfway done, I was able to significantly improve play and do the first part of Cartoon Heroes Speed mix without issue, but still a little bit of map moving, I of course did not finish as I ran out of tape, however toilet paper with some holes in it, seems to be a temporary substitute if you're brave. |

I find that the RO Ignition pad works best on a hard floor. On carpet, the foam bends way too much to the point you will get misses and ghosting of arrows, and a lot of frustration to the point where you would just throw the damn thing out or cut it up to find that the foam between the sensors is made out of the cheapest material. Also, on the hard surface, the pad does not move that much, where as on carpet, it will move A LOT.
I had to replace that foam with the foam from my Kraft Cheese "free" pad and it works fine to a point.
I highly recommend to not play this pad on any carpeted surface. If you do, I would invest on playing on top of some plywood or those hard plastic things from Office Depot or Office Max. Make sure it is not a flimsy plastic thing.
My experience with the RO Ignition pad has made me appreciate the arcade pad and the arcade experience a lot more. RO Ignition pad is frustrating, and don't expect any kind of good accuracy. It is nice to start out with, but nothing replaces the arcade experience, especially the social aspects.

Perhaps I'm just lucky, but so far I've been really pleased with both of my Ignition 3.0 pads. Admittedly I'm not an advanced player, but as far as I can tell I'm not missing arrows as a result of the pad, nor getting any ghost arrows. Whenever I miss or am late it seems to be because indeed I am doing that, and there's absolutely no question that I'm doing much, much better with these pads then I was with the standard pads. The raised arrows and larger and more sensitive arrows make a big difference. Also it definitely provides more cushion for my feet. I bought both of my Ignition 3.0's direct from Red Octane. I don't know if that makes a difference or not, but figured I'd mention it.
Oh, and yes, they move around a bit if I play them on carpet, but not nearly as much as the original pads. On hardwood floor they don't move around at all. |

I got both of mine to work on my Vista desktop, so I don't know why your Vista laptop wouldn't recognize it. |

It recognized it when I plugged it in. I don't know why it wouldn't work for you. I'm using Vista Home Premium by the way, so maybe if you are using a different version of Vista, it may work differently. I honestly don't know. |

Yeah, Ignition 3.0's are actually pretty good pads, despite what some misinformed idiots might say. I have 2 Ignition 3.0's; one of them was bought about 5 months ago, and while it does have rips in some places(duct tape is your friend), it still works as well as it did when I first got it. The other one I have, which was bought about 3 weeks ago, works well too. Both were $50, but the older one was bought at Best Buy, while the other was bought at EB Games. The only thing I don't like about Ignitions are that you have to break them in after getting them, which takes about a day or two. Otherwise, they are good pads. |
