Well if it's your pad, and you play at home, and you don't want to damage your pad, you may as well go barefoot. _________________

look for shoes with really soft outer soles, they tend to make the least noise. |

Wrestling or Karate training shoes; they're light as a feather.
Skate shoes maybe? _________________

cross training shoes, or other various types of running shoes are probly your best option. I generally play in Asics on arcade pads, and hardly hear any shoe noise even when stomping (other than occasional squeaking due to my liking ALOT of grip), whereas my Vans make as much noise as the machine speakers even when i step lightly.
this is also stickied on 'chit-chat' but like 85+ pages. the last dozen or so would be another good spot to check. _________________

Agreed.
When I play on my metal pads at home I ethier go barefoot or wear Asics running shoes. |

Logically, any shoes with flat soles. Total net force hitting the panel immediately, no?
My K-Swisses are like that, and when I used them a couple days ago, I played noticibly better than during my usual DDR outing in cross-trainers, which are designed with several rising areas on the sole, such as the middle of the foot and the toe region curving upwards toward your foot and away from the surface. _________________

i like the recess in my shoes for playing with minimal movemet, sort of a cross of heel-toe and flat-foot style. if i play in totally flat shoes, i need to mentally make sure that i dont hang up on the center square and recessed arrows. _________________

Well, if you're one of those 2-footed types, wearing 2 shoes would drastically improve your gameplay, but if you're only dealing with one foot, I'd recommend Vans or Converse Chucks. Both are light-weight, good-grip, good-support shoes.
Liquid Zero,
20 Newtons of force contacting an infinitely small point will not have a weaker effect than 20 Newtons of force hitting an infinitely large area.
However, more contact area is still better, because it decreases cracking and balances panel movement to use all sensor area available to you. :B _________________

how each style of shoes plays for a specific person depends on a complex interaction of how they fit on their feet and how they play. thus, every person will have a different feel from the same style of shoes. bottom line is go to the store and figure out which fit your feet best and feel comfortable running/stopping quickly/etc. unfortunately, we've helped about as much as we can over a forum board. _________________

The shoes that I usually play DDR and ITG in (éS Square Ones) aren't noisy at all. My Vans No Skools don't make much noise either. They are both good DDR shoes. Like I said, neither of them make much noise whatsoever. But brands such as Emerica, Fallen, and DC tend to make annoying squeaking noises. So yeah, I would recommend Vans No Skools and éS Square Ones for being good DDR shoes and for being very quiet while stepping on the panels.
on a side note: no, i don't skate. go ahead and start with the "you're the biggest poser on earth" bullshit. |

Old-school Vans slip-ons are absolutely perfect for DDR. They hug your feet (so you don't miss the arrows if you play on your toes), they're light and they're quiet. They also last a long time and are machine washable _________________

I'm pretty sure if you play flatfoot it makes noise no matter what. |

Nike Free 5.0 or 6.0 is pretty good. they are shoes that are really flexible and a lot of the ITG players use them for fast feet moving. _________________

Personally I find playing in socks the easiest when playing at home. Of course, sweaty socks are the best because the dampness adds a little bit of grip. _________________
