Yes, it's really easy and cool to say "lol internet is serious business", especially when you're not the one being attacked. The fact is, though, that if you insult someone over the Internet in a serious way (or a way that appears serious), they're probably going to take you seriously. And that's completely understandable, because you're insulting their real-life characteristics, which is really no different from insulting them in person.
