Hi all. I am writing an english research paper on how DDR cleverly disguises exercise in a fun, addicting video game. I was wondering if anyone has an comments, or stories, or anything that deals with this topic.
Here are some things I'd like to know about from DDR players other than myself and my friends:
1. What attracted you to playing DDR in the first place?
2. Why do you think DDR is so enjoyable and makes burning calories feel like nothing?
3. Do you think DDR is the same as going to an aerobics class?
4. What are your opinions on the West Virginia school systems using DDR in their PE classes?

Anything else you have thoughts or opinions about I'd love to hear. I have plenty of information from research, but it's important to me to have some input from the DDR community.
Thank you all!!

It gives me a legitimate reason to continue.. the eternal strive of topping yourself and your abilities.

I would say yes, because it increases your Cardiac health which is the Crux of Aerobics.

Let's do the Numbers:

* The average stride per running step is 1.5-3 Feet.
* HVAM (H) has 479 Steps. 3ft * 479 steps = 1437 steps. or 1/3 Mile.
*The Average DDR Song is only 1.5 Minutes long, how many people do you know that can run a 1/3 Mile in 1.5 Minutes.
*At 3 Feet per Stride (Probably low estimate) you'd need 1760 steps to be equal to a mile.

DDR is a fun videogame that is actually good for you.
Along it serves as a great aerobic exercise and works your legs.

1. What attracted me to DDR? I saw it in the mall and it looked cool. Then I asked it for Christmas.

2. I hardly play DDR anymore. I play ITG now. But anyways, it's a videogame I actually enjoy while burning calories. Exercise should be fun.

3. DDR might be the same as aerobics, but not replace it. DDR should be one form aerobics. I cross train with Karate, weight training, and track.

4. West Virginia with DDR in their schools: It's probably the best idea I've heard. How come other schools can't adopt their ways? The world is flat, but America is round ( laugh.gif ), if we don't want to take sports, we should have that option.
Yeah, half of my school don't take sports, but only sports are available as extra-curricular activities.

If I'm going to be a nerd; I'll it look cool.

Don't get too attached, I can easily spend too much money!

1. What attracted you to playing DDR in the first place?
One of my friends showed me this and listening to the nice rhythmic music I joined it.

2. Why do you think DDR is so enjoyable and makes burning calories feel like nothing?
Because you have something to let you concentrate on other then thinking "I need to lose weight." I mainly concentrate on the music and the steps and beats to it then just my weight.

3. Do you think DDR is the same as going to an aerobics class?
Just as the same just only that you need to work out on your arms in a different way since DDR is more feet and legs then hands.

4. What are your opinions on the West Virginia school systems using DDR in their PE classes?

Even though i don't live there it is something that a person should try out and experiment on.

1. What attracted you to playing DDR in the first place?
- I played it at a party and I thought the music was good and it was just fun to play.
2. Why do you think DDR is so enjoyable and makes burning calories feel like nothing?
- Because you get to listen to music and be interactive with what you are doing, and if you play at the arcade you can make friends and be part of the community.
3. Do you think DDR is the same as going to an aerobics class?
- If you play harder songs and really put yourself out there, it can be just as good, if not better for you.
4. What are your opinions on the West Virginia school systems using DDR in their PE classes?
- I think that's a great idea. My school has a PS2 and some pads and I really enjoy playing during gym class. I think that other things like running and sports should still be played, but it's a great supplement to regular gym activities.
