Accuracy was the focus in DDR long before ITG hit the scene, and for those with countless AAAs, playing the same song on extreme over and over to reduce a score by one or two greats was not fun at all.
It's up to the player to decide how seriously he or she takes any game. |

Just to let you guys know, from my "expert" opinion, anything beyond a * grade is relative... so, if you cant get above 96.00 percent, it's not really a big deal... people can get 99s and have fun.... people can get B's and take it really seriously... I've seen that...
A person on medium... getting B's... and being very, very frustrated. |

Both games appeal to PA'ers, but only DDR attracts players that mostly play for fun. _________________

ahhh this is the reason why i stopped posting here
anyways....
Im going to try to explain this with an analogy
rugby=DDR, football=ITG, Basketball=PIU
ok say football just came out and rugby didnt like football because, it was competition and found a good reason to sue them. football loses in court and there is no more football.
Now basketball has been around for along time along with rugby and they kinda co-exist with each other. say basketball felt sorry for football and decided to merge the two together making a basketfootball. Now rugby cant touch the half football, but the basketball community doesnt like this because A. the rules to accommodate the two sports changes it to the point where the original enjoyment is no longer there. B. these sports are played on the same court and since the courts are expensive to make. it would hinder what can be played when.
Pro it meant to cater to 4 panel ITG players, but might appeal (like ITG appealed to DDR players) DDR players because of
1. Music change
2. note skin color
3. buttons to navigate though options
This may appeal to ITG players because
1. some of ITG's music on there
2. the charts are so ITG
3. note skin (4th note red, 8th note blue, ect)
4. buttons on the cab
5. it has SD card slot
6. song score to show people there uber leetness'ness
7. a tighter timing window and rating so it actually means something
8. options to 'Enhance" game play I.E. Bomb, tornado, ect
I honestly think this game will not appeal to DDR fans as much as ITG fans because alot of the AAA's people went to ITG for the ****'s challenge kinda filtering out the PA people of ddr leaving a fan base who for the most part play for fun and freestyle. (And it has 5 panels)
I cant say all, but for the most part ITG players just attack and thats it, very little freestyling if any or anything else. they play to get there name on the machine to show of there leetness, ITG fans now have reasons (other then it has 5 panels....) to play pro because the "Pro" means, adjust the speed mods(yes PIU's speed mod's are currently different" give the game different note skins and other mods to make it easier and a song score display to show off the leetness
PIU players mostly freestyle, thought there are alot of people who attack but its not to attack Pa, its manly just to survive the song. The scoring is and timing grade is very VERY lenient. a person passing a really hard song with 30 misses and getting a C, or a B is a accomplishment to them rather then "I need to **** this to show my leetness. And PIU players who freestyle don care because its hard to fail because the grading system is so lenient. Unlike what was DDR (some arcades having more then 1 DDR at the time) almost ALL arcades in the U.S only have 1 pump machine, thus if pro was to go to a location, it may replace an ..Exceed 1or2 Zero or NX and future mixes.
kyle (aka KaW, Smiley, Kbit, ect) wanting to get his music out, though he says he has played pump , is completely ignoring the PIU community(while the game is suppose to be a pump game) and is only catering to his ITG/kyle nutthugers. And he is full of it, if he thinks that the two can coexist while not effecting each other
Pro is a "FIX" for whats wrong with pump for 4 panel players
But to Pump players PIU is fine the way it is and doesnt need to be "fixed"
But on a side note, for the most part the community would be happy if they....
1. took the pump name out (which would differ enate the two so it would lower the chances of a pump mix being replaced by a pro)
2. gave it a different cab. right now they are using FX, or GX cabs (the newest pump cabs have LCD monitors for FX, which cost almost 10k and Gx cabs cost almost 7k.
3. take out Banya songs (Banya is to PIU like KaW was to ITG and Naoki is to DDR)
which......
MAKES IT ITS OWN GAME!! In the groove wasnt called Dance to the Groove or In the Revolution, it was its on entity and was separate form DDR. DDR is its on game and fine the way it is, ITG was its on game and fine the way it was, and PIU is its on game and fine the way it is. Though each game has its own flaws, some on these "flaws" is the reason we choose to play what we play.
anyway i just came here to hear the thoughts of the DDR community and maybe the stuff i posted above may clue some in to whats going on
and please try to keep it mature and civilized. |

Pump Pro's superb window is wider than DDR's perfect, less details are shown at the result screen than in ITG, and the steps are more streamy and freestylable than ITG's.

It wouldn't be sad if this machine replaced Exceed, since it has most of the songs Exceed has and more. If you think the Pump songs/charts are really so much better than the new content on Pro, they're still in the game.

chasejuno wrote: | Pro is a "FIX" for whats wrong with pump for 4 panel players. Hopefully some long time Pump players will be willing to accept the differences between PIU and PIU Pro, and enjoy Pro for its new content.

Also, if making it its own game is a concern, then why complain about the differences between it and the regular Pump series?
P.S. Don't stereotype ITG players. People enjoy ITG for many different reasons. |

haha, chasejuno, you've expressed most of the ideas i'd like to put down. however, i would have made the analogy more like piu is soccer (or football, in the rest of the world), ddr is like american football (nfl) and itg is like arena football. this would be more reflective of their relative popularities based on sports in the real world.
in any case, its good to see some constructive posts. |

So, I played a couple games on it earlier today. I think kyrandian has a couple vids of it. I would have gotten a picture, but my batteries died before I could.
It is Pump It Up.
It is also in the groove.
The speed mods are somewhat faster than their sister mods would be on DDR, so I'd suggest that you calc you speeds down about 80% for the equivalent scroll speeds. The screen, speakers, etc. are all true to Pump It Up. It's missing very little when you consider that it's still a beta version. There are 4 selection buttons: left, right, select, and mods. The left and right actually go up and down on everything, so that was kind of misleading at first. Kyle was there, but he left before I got a chance to suggest they modify that. The mods button is a misleading red circle. They will hopefully fix that at some point. Difficulties are ITG-style, but that's not really a problem, since you're also given a nice song overview as with ITG.
What I really want to talk about is that pads.
They're amazing. The most sensitive pads I've ever used. They're also very nice-feeling. The spacing's the same as PIU, so no fear, and it's really easy to hit 4 notes simultaneously without using your hands at all. Some of the doubles charts are really amazing, with turns, hands, knees, butts, everything. It's like twister on speed, man.
Overall, I give this game a 7/10 in it's beta stage.
I think this will deserve a 9.5/10 in it's final state.
btw, July's hard chart is fun as hell if you like spins. Don't let the 5-block difficulty rating turn you off. The Expert chart is insane, but I was too busy twirling around to see precisely what Kyrn was doing. _________________

(Cross-posted)
A few more songs along with a new set of mods have been added. There are now music rate options, ranging from x1 to x1.5, along with Accelerando. The new songs include Clockwork Genesis, Dawn -Perpetual Mix-, Blow My Mind, Take My Time, Like A Childbirth, and Incognito.
Check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=elj3Fz4aHAM (Kyle Ward plays with the new Accelerando mod)
Y2Z NM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=METaSOy1KTs
Sorry my camera records at a low framerate and the videos are a little dark.
The highest speed mod is now x4, and they go up by increments of 0.5. Also, the lifebar graphic is different now (no more flame), so you can actually see how much life you have remaining. Genre Sort is back too, from ITG2 beta. |

I like how all of Pump Haven for the most part is completely freaking out about Pump:Pro and going berzerk about it, when it isn't even designed for those players.
For me, all I have to say is...wait until the final version comes out, try it, then if it is not something you like, ignore it, and go back to playing what dance game you like. Simple as that. _________________

The issue is... what happens when PIU Pro replaces the only PIU NX in my area, because of the ignorance of the arcade manager in the arcade I visit? Then I can no longer play the game I'd prefer, because that game has been replaced... that, my friend, is the REAL issue that many PIU players are concerned about... and the stepchart vids are not reassuring for many of us. _________________

Then the only advice I can give is to specifically show the manager that piu:pro is a completely new series, being developed separately from classic pump (including nx).
On this subject, I am wondering if this game is going to be sold just simply as its own dedicab. I could assume that is yes, considering that the machine has selection buttons, but just wanted to make sure. _________________

If only it were so easy... sometimes arcade managers are NOT the easiest people to reach or the most likely to listen; there's been so MANY incidents with arcade manager ignorance that a scenario where the manager will purchase Pro and kick out an NX is almost inevitable in certain places. This is why a LOT of people are suggesting to have the name changed, so that the game will be free to do its own thing without hurting the sales of official PIU mixes or causing confusion for people in the market for a PIU arcade machine.
That is... unless Pro is willing to be an ALMOST exact clone of NX (interface/scoring/exact same songlist) with an additional Kyle Ward channel and the ability to use either feet or buttons to navigate the interface. But that doesn't seem likely at all. _________________
