Well, I used to play DDR about 5 years ago or so on the Playstation 1.

I'm now wanting to get back into it, since it was great fun/exercise.

However, I'm totally out of the loop on all the new games/controllers.
I am only able to play on an Xbox now, and I believe there's only Ultramix 1-4 available for that system.
Are there any differences between, for example, UM3 and UM4, or is it just new songs?

And also, are there any DDR mats you would recommend for someone with an Xbox who's not too hardcore? There seems to be so many, it's rather confusing even after looking at the DDR Mat Index topic here.

Thanks for any help. I appreciate it.

Get Ultramix 2. It has the best songlist of any UM mix.

But what about features?
It only seems logical that UM4 would have more options and such...
Or is that a false assumption? Are they equal games but with different songs?

Pretty much, although UM4 allows you to play songpack content from all previous UM games as well as a few new ones. Songpacks after UM2 are rather meager, though.

Ah, I see... Well, if UM2 is the same as UM4 (but with different songs), I guess it doesn't really matter what I pick then.
Though I DO remember reading about UM4 having lots of modes like Challenge Mode and Quest Mode and such... I hope UM2 has them.

Hell, maybe I'll get both...

Ah, and what about mats? Any recommendations for a person in my situation?

Just get all four then you'll be good. E1.gif

If you do, make sure you download the songpacks on the earliest possible game.

UM2 doesn't have Quest Mode, and instead has an unlock system similar to SSBM. Challenge Mode isn't necessary to unlock anything, but that's okay because it's pretty much BS. If you're not picky when it comes to music tastes, you would most likely like UM4 best.

Yeah, I'm not very picky on music.
That makes me lean towards UM4. Slightly more features, still decent songs (because of my broad taste).

Thanks for the help guys. I'll check out the local stores for UM4, and I'll probably just pick up any DDR Mat I can find.
