For an early graduation present, my parents helped me get my laptop for college next year. I got an HP Pavilion DV9000 on Tuesday, the same day that Windows Vista was released, and it came pre-installed with Vista Home Premium.

My pc has:
- 1 gig of ram (2 is recommended for Vista apparently)
- Nvidia GeForce 6150 (256 mb) graphics card

That should have been more than enough for SM, but when I run it windowed (I have a widescreen so windowed is optimal) I experience a bit of lag.

Yes, I've already checked the readme and turned off texture clamp behavior on my graphics card's settings. I've tryed to turn down the resolution/texture levels as well, but I still get just enough lag to making scoring virtually impossible.

Is my problem simply that I need more memory to support Vista and an application like SM at the same time?

p.s. SM is compatible with Vista, I haven't experienced any errors whatsoever.

Attempt to increase the refreshrate, and turn Vsync on or off.

Vista only has beta video card drivers and an early DX10 build, so if those above suggestions do not work, wait a week or two for better drivers.

Speaking of Vista, I wonder if the next SM update will work on XP and Vista or just Vista.

Why would the Stepmania team stop supporting an OS that everyone uses?

Everything will eventually make the transition.

That doesn't mean they'll stop supporting XP altogether. Windows Vista is basically XP, except everything is a lot more unnecessarily flashy and everything is a lot harder to find.

I'm not a Windows fanboy, but I do really like Vista. If anything, it is easier for me to navigate through my files and various folders. I suppose it could be a tougher OS for those who don't really know how to find things in the first place though.

On my own topic, I guess I'll to wait for upgrades for my drivers. I can play full-screen fine, but because I have a widescreen display it stretches out the arrows and makes timing slightly harder. It's better than not playing at all though.

Thanks for the suggestions, later.

I just bought a new computer a few months ago; 2.2 GHz, 2 GB RAM and I have the same video card as you. I also have a widescreen monitor so I tried playing windowded, and it was extremely choppy. I don't think it has to do with the OS, it just has to do with SM.

Well, that sucks. Hopefully an update will help though.
