Nope. Doesn't work that way. The songs from ExJP are not physically present on the ExUS disc. ExUS wouldn't even recognize an ExJP save file if you did download one; the games have different save file IDs. And even if you were to change the ID of the file, the internal format is likely slightly different due to the different number of songs. Nice try, but not plausible. |
ok so now i have another question in regards to that... is there away to be able to play import games on us ps2? if so what device? and then would the save data work? |

For that you'll want to look at the The How-To-Run-Imports Thread. There are lots of threads which have been stickied in each of these forums that answer a lot of the questions you seem to have. Take a look over there, read the thread, do the research, and if you have other questions, ask in whichever topic is most appropriate. |

Sorry for the 4 month thread bump ahead of time, but I read through the thread didn't see what I was looking for question wise =X
I started looking into some of the USB adapters, and the Max Drive seemed to stick out for awhile of being the most popular or so it seems. But I read a bunch of reviews and nearly EVERY one of them is negative saying their memory card was corrupted or the product just completely stopped working.
My question to some people here is, is the Max Drive worth it or is there another product a lot more stable that can do the job too? |

I've never had a problem with my Max Drive. It's a bit slow sometimes, but it's never corrupted my other saves or my MC in general. I never crush stuff, of course, and I only uncrush whenever that's how it was distributed to me. I just generally don't trust "compression" products from third parties. _________________

Mind if I ask which size Max Drive you have? I've seen 8, 16, and 128 MB sizes and it seems the reviews on all the 16 MB ones haven't been good, maybe it's just bad programming in certain sized drives or something. |

My experience has been that you can use other USB drives with the software. I don't even know where my actual MAX drive is. Now, some may have compatibility issues, but the ones I've used are fine. The drive itself probably doesn't really have anything to do with it. It's all about the software, which I would assume is the same for each version. |

Would I be able to use my U3 smart USB flashdrive to import save files to my PS2? Or do I need a totally blank drive? _________________

Haha, yeah, right. I have Firefox on there.
I have a blank 128 mb drive. How can I import save files on that? Do I need a cheat disc or something? _________________

I've been looking @ getting A Datel Max Drive to back up game saves on my ps2. three questions:
a) will it work for my us ps2 which is a slim one?
b) would it work on a JP ps2 which is also a slim one?
c) Can it be used in place of a memory card (save and load game data to and from the drive)
I'm asking because i left my mem card a friends house who just went on vacation for two weeks, so i want to be able to have back-ups should this happen again. Also, if there is something other than the Datel Max Drive that would work better let me know.
thx. _________________

I have Autosave enabled in all of my games. And I have had my memory card data for DDR games "Data Corrupt" on me, causing me to have to start all over.
My solution is I bought a second card to keep my "record" on. I play the game with the first card and, when I'm done, switch out the pad for the PS2 controller and put that second memory card in there and take the game out. If the data isn't corrupted, I copy it over on top of memory card #2. If it was corrupted, I easily copy what is on memory card #2 onto memory card #1, losing only whatever record/etc I just made, rather than losing everything.
It's also nice if you'd like to keep personal records rather than having other people beat your records (hey, it's your machine, right?..your rules ). You can take it places and play, taking only your first memory card with you. Then when you get home, you can overwrite what is on it with your save on memory card #2. Pristine!
Also for anyone who doesn't know how flash memory works (yes, PS2 memory cards use flash memory), there is a limitation in them that they can only have a certain amount of writes. It isn't intentional but is a side effect of writing data to it. When you "erase", not everything gets erased and residue is left behind. At some point this residue will be too much and at that point, the data on your disk will remain but you cannot save anything else to it anymore. So that's also why it's a good idea to have a second memory card and to write to it less frequently than the first.
Also, does anyone know how you can just use an ordinary USB key/USB drive/whatever you want to call it with the PS2 to transfer data from that to a PS2 memory card? I'm pretty sure it has to be possible but it seems it is a limitation of software in this case. So if you had the right software, you could transfer game saves onto the USB key in a format the PS2 would understand, and then take it and put in the PS2 and directly copy the save data to a memory card, right? Or would you also need a special CD/DVD with software that worked on a PS2 to transfer to the memory card? If so, is there any free, legal software which can do this (and then you'd just burn yourself a CD or DVD from an .iso of it) _________________

Yay!
My DDR Extreme 2 maxdrive save for the US PS2 is now hosted on GameFAQs.
It has everything unlocked, everything purchased from the shop, Dance Master Mode complete with all missions available.
I sent a PM to the guy here in charge of saves asking to get it posted here, haven't heard back from him yet.
Check it out if your Extreme 2 save gets corrupted or you need everything unlocked quickly. _________________
