You also pay-per-view to watch people do silly things, in which some people would also categorize DDR.

If you mean porn, I wouldn't do so.

Not porn, the category right underneath. Or is that DDR?

DDR is not a sport because

1) its a goddamn arcade video game.

2) under the dictionary definition, we could have a flailing contest, to see who can flail their limbs faster, or better and call that a sport. (and thats pretty close to what DDR is)

3) anyone who bashes golf has never really done it, and does not realize how fraking hard it is.

Golf is hard. Isn't DDR and ITG hard also?

That's irrelevant to his point. People bash golf because they think HAY GUYZ PUT BALL IN HOLE DATZ EZ LAWLL!!!11eleven

But seriously, DDR should not be a sport. Compare it to any other sport - do the players have to go to an arcade and insert tokens into a machine to play? DDR is a game, nothing more. Sure, it involves skill and stamina, but that doesn't change the fact that it's a video game.

Um...last I checked, Soccer, Football, Tennis, Golf, etc. are all games as well. The fact that it's a "video" game shouldn't keep it from being called a sport. Good Lord, I don't understand why this is so hard to accept.

Exactly. Most sports are games, DarkCore.

Sounds like a rental equipment fee to me.

It would get very old, very fast. Leave it as a fun, leisurely thing. A sport is WAYYY to extreme for button mashing.

I can continue to make stepcharts as long as I can keep thinking of them, and still have all the DDR mixes, and ITG out.

I can't change things in Soccer or basketball.

I support sports, but DDR is just more complex in a way.

Kung Fu is over 5,000 years old an people still study it, so I'm suprised that's not old. disgust.gif

DDR isn't going to become a sport no matter what anyone here says, so this entire thread is completely worthless. DDR is a dancing simulation meaning they simply turned "dancing" into a video game. Why the hell would we make a simulation game a worldwide sport? Let's just make Dance Maniax a sport too while we're at it too since it simulates the exact same thing just in a different way.

EDIT: Oh, and sports aren't something that are going to "go out of style." Imagine if there were going to be absolutely no new mixes whatsoever released after SuperNOVA. How many people would still continue playing DDR for say...ten years? At least with basketball and tennis a huge video game company doesn't have to keep updating and making new things just to keep the fans happy.

Actually, you make a good point there. What if, in 10 years, DDR is reminisced on as just "a crappy little fad from Japan?" At least sports will go on for a long time. And, after all, it did just start out as a video game.

DDR should be respected as a sport...
A middle school close by has it as a PE unit, so why not?
If the school administrators approve of it in PE, then it's thought to be useful in "physical education", connecting itself as being a sport

On the other hand, I asked my PE teacher if she thought it was a sport and she just considered it as "training" for other endurance and typical sports we usually do in PE.

If you didn't understand any of that, sry E4.gif but that's my opinion anyways.

So a game where you throw balls at other people's pins to knock them down is a sport?

Just because DDR is excercise doesn't make it a sport. Why not make every single Nintendo Wii game a sport also because they are video games (like DDR), they involve skill, and they give you excercise also.

WTF!!!! golf is hard i mean come on you have to hit it the right way so it doesnt go into the trees and bunker type things dont forget about hitting it into lakes and dont forget about wind that could make your ball fly in all kinds of directions and the most annoying thing is putting.
