99% of the people that play DDR are nerds. When I wanna play DDR, I often distance myself from extreme nerds so as to not confuse the passerbyers that I, too, am a nerd. That's the price people play for playing a dance game where you look stupid.

Well, I don't think I'm either. I was always pretty popular, a lot of my parties used DDR in some way. I was also never considered nerdy or geeky by peers at school or elsewhere for that matter. I don't think I make it look that great, but I never find people making fun of me when I play.

Maybe it's because I know how to set them in their place. Then they begin to respect me and it's not so nerdy or geeky or... whatever.

Sure, the prospect of stepping on an arrow on the floor at blazing high-speeds looks ridiculous, and it's not appealing to see someone stepping just ever so slowly on that thing (or, if you're a musician, you're probably ticked off by off-sync-ness like I am) either. Some of us make it look good to the point that people want to play, hence, the newbie community we have. Sure, they might be geeks a lot of the time, but even "cool", or, so to say, "socially acceptable" people start to play.

I don't think the geeky behavior is mostly greatly exhibited through the game itself, more from an awkwardness exhibited. I've seen good players who look awkward playing it. It's a dancing simulation, most people expect some form of dance, not arrow-mashing.

Maybe this is why I like PIU better. It flows better.

Yeah..... your logic is so astounding

As somebody in DDRUK said on this very same topic, it's only geeky if you make it so.... there are people who play it who are all out "uber" geeks & nerds but that isn't everybody.... and certainly one's smugness will not make it any different.

Do we really need to get worked up about this? It is just a freaking name (geek) that people made up to try to crush other people's emotions. Are we going to let that make us never touch ddr again and blend in somewhere else and make us psychotic because our hobby has been shunned by ourselves.........(hit by a baseball bat, followed by some sleeping drugs tipped with amnesia).

Sorry, my fun side of my mind was going insane.
DDR is just a profession to me. I'm really popular at school (Edythe J. Hayes Middle School) all from one dance. Still some people don't revere me as much as usual though. What my fun side trying to say is, (parody) Names may not destroy your emotions and your determination will always prevail.
