It's like Phillip Morris having the quit smoking ads, except for little children. |

I agree, this whole thing is in fact ridiculous, but I'm still buying the toys for my DDR collection. I was actually correct; these things do cost $2.00 to buy individually. Anyway, my mom just got back from Burger King and bought me the DDR Music Mixer. They also had the DDR Spin 'n Strobe there also, but she didn't know that it was even a DDR toy so she didn't bother to get it. I'll get it tomorrow for sure though. I think they'll be getting the same new toys in both Canada and the USA because we both currently have the same toys available at Burger Kings.
Anyway I thought I'd post some pictures of the packaging, the instructions, and of course the toy itself.
Front of the toy
Back of the toy
Front of the instructions
Inside of the instructions
Front of the packaging
The whole set
Packaged up for storage
Oh yeah, the back of the packaging is transparent so you just see the front of it backwards, and the back of the instructions is identical to the front. There are four sounds that this can make. The upper left is a quick drumbeat, the lower left is a voice that spells out "DDR" slowly. The upper right is a quick clip of a techno beat from a song which I beleive is D2R, but I could be wrong. And lastly the bottom right buttons also makes a different type of drumbeat. |

When I was little I wanted all the parts to the Inspector Gadget toy at McDonalds, and my mom just said this every time after she ordered. "What toys do you guys have?" They'd bring out the ones that they had. "Alright, I'll take this one." If I recall correctly it was $2.00 at McDonalds. I could be wrong though as I haven't done that in years. |
Thank you |

I wouldn't mind paying that price to get them again even if they are Pokemon. |

What DDR game is the song Treble, Bass, and Attitude by the artist The Acolyte from because it plays on the BK website so I was thinking that it was either on UM4 or DDR Universe but I wasn't surte? Also could someone tell me if that is one of the songs on the BK DDR CD! |

I purchased the Music Mixer toy today! They charged me $1.29 for it (interesting considering one mentioned 60 cents, another $1.00, and yet another $1.99, LOL!)
I'm assuming that since the Dance Dance Revolution promotion began this Monday, two new toys will be coming out each Monday through the end of this month, with this week's two featured items the Music Mixer and the Spin N Strobe.
Tomorrow, I'm going to get the Spin N Strobe, and I imagine we can relax until next Monday to seek out the next two items.
Sincerely,
Noah Eaton |

And thusly, there goes the neighborhood. DDR has gone from the elegant yet less-well-known caterpillar to a grotesque tweenie-targeted butterfly.
Five years ago this would have tickled me, although that idea is an impossibility. It wasn't simply about a game being underground, but being tied to it's roots. It's about long songlists on Japanese PS2 versions that would never see the light of day in America. It was about challenging, non-dumbed down gameplay. It was about Toshiba Dancemania licenses and amazing Konami artists making the bulk of the music.
Where did you loose me, Konami? I'm not sure where to start. Did it start with Extreme, having none of the energy and charm of the Japanese version, replaced instead with a splattering of third-rate covers? Was it deciding to sue Roxor for trying to provide some competition? The knockoff third-party toys for toddlers? The creepy people the game tended to attract? Supernova? It's hard to say. What really killed it for me was when the game was mutated into something different. It's hard to say when that started to occur, but I have to blame when Extreme came out in the US. The BK toys? Cute promotion, but more evidence that DDR is going somewhere that some people might not like.
Apocalyptic post? Maybe, but this stuff is just another indicator of where Konami is moving DDR - throwing it deeper into the mainstream. Thanks for the fun Konami. I wish you nothing sort of the best in the rest of its electronic endeavors.
Reflect, object, flame, whatever. Maybe I am just being a naieve old coot about it all, and I just can't put my finger on exactly what DDR is becoming. |
