You mean, as of what the Cheer Girls are to Ouendan? BTW, I can't help but give a chuckle every time I see the "wave your hands in the air" part between the breaks ! Am I the only one here that finds this hilarious? _________________

BTW, I see that your sig has an answer that alot of people must of been asking. Saves alot of threads, doesn't it? |

OMG!!! The review is up on IGN! I didn't read anything yet except for the score and I can already say that they are just about as excited about the game as I am right now. My doubts about EBA has been cast aside completely; I hope this becomes the annual DDR for the DS !

Sorry, IGN is hardly a reliable source for determining the quality of video games. Remember that they were the ones that ranted about Beatmania ripping off Guitar Hero...
As of right now, the only people whose opinions I trust are actual gamers that spent money and bought the game. And since there's obviously no reader reviews up for the game yet, I'm still going to have to wait and see if the game is REALLY worth a purchase. _________________

No, no, the IGN review doesn't compare Beatmania to GH... it was X-Play that did that. IGN actually did a reasonable review of beatmania and gave it an ok score.
I'm looking at this game with extreme interest. _________________

I just saw a video of the final song of the game on youtube (on insane difficulty). All i can say is that it nails on Ready, steady, go alot harder than ever. Still a fun song to play from what i saw. |

Yea, I saw that, too. I'm just disgusted that you literally have to wait 2 FULL MINUTES before you actually get to play the song (not counting the opening cinematic). And considering how easy it is to fail a song on Insane, I foresee a lot of DSes getting thrown across the room.
And I thought RSG's opening was drawn-out.
Edit: Apparently, you can skip intros on this, unlike Ouendan. That's a good thing. _________________

It's Jumpin' Jack Flash, and yes, it looks WAY harder than Ready Steady Go (only not ask cool, of course).

JJF is more frustrating than RSG if anything, but the stage before JJF is IMO much more frustrating...probably because I couldn't understand where the beat was.
EBA is equally as cheesy in American terms as Ouendan IMO, and is in fact a better game in that iNiS took a lot of the problems with Ouendan and fixed them all (including the intro skip, THANK GOD). The animations are also a TON better and much more detailed than Ouendan.
My only real problem is that...well...some of the songs just aren't as catchy to me as Ouendan. And EBA is A LOT more cheesier than Ouendan in some stages...the final stage comes to mind. But I don't think I could rate one game over the other, they both have their ups and downs. I say pick up both. _________________

Well, ladies and gents, in spite of the fact that I had already written this once before and accidentally hit the Back button on by browser (erasing it), I decided to finally update this topic and give you the real dirt on this game.
A confession: I'd like to first start out by saying that I didn't start playing this game entirely open-mindedly as I should have. Having felt the sting of the relatively poor Americanization of Beatmania, I was understandably concerned when I heard that Nintendo was altering the concept of Ouendan to make it more marketable over here.
Well, let me say it now before everyone: my fears were totally groundless, and Nintendo's instinct proved to be right on the money. If anything, Elite Beat Agents is even more outrageous and entertaining than its Japanese predecessor!
A brief overview: For those of you that aren't familiar with the history and concept behind this game, I'll go ahead and explain this to you.
This game is a music game - a full sequel to the Japanese-only game, Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan! (Go! Fight! Cheer Squad!)
The premise is quite easy to grasp on both games. You control a team of people (the cheer squad in Ouendan, the Agents in EBA) who help normal everyday people get through extraordinary situations by cheering them on in order to get them to "fight back" against their problems. In Ouendan, this meant cheering them on in order to build their fightng spirit. In EBA, it means getting them into the groove of things so they have the courage to fight back.
In order to do this, you must use the DS stylus in order to tap the notes onscreen in rhythm to the song. This is accompanied by a percussive (or in some rare exceptions, harmonic) sound effect, which in essence means that you are playing along with the song. Sometimes you simply need to tap a note, other times you need to slide the stylus along a line, still other times, you need to use the stylus to spin an on-screen spinner. This game can be played without using ANY controls on the DS console and is entirely touch screen-based.
As you play, the progress of the people you're helping is displayed on the top screen. Do good, and they successfully start fighting back. Start missing notes, and they begin to lose focus. In addition, there are several breaks in each song in which the storyline progresses. If you're passing, the character you're cheering on will be able to successfully do what he needs to do. If you're failing the song at that point, it will result in a "failing" cutscene.
The Songlist: Okay, granted. We've all cringed after seeing songs like "Y.M.C.A." and "Material Girl" on the song list. And "Jumpin' Jack Flash" as the final stage? What were they thinking, right?
Well, don't let that stop you. I'm telling you right now, when you get into the game, you won't even notice the duds on the songlist. In fact, equating "Y.M.C.A." with a pirate searching for treasure is a stroke of genius and actually enhances the already humorous experience.
The covers, just like on Ouendan, are also very well performed. They are extremely accurate to the originals, and in some cases, even better.
The storylines: The storylines in EBA are even more crazy and ridiculous than the infamous tales spun in Ouendan. I won't spoil any of them here (although I make no promises about subsequent posts), but suffice it to say that they are very well-done, with references to everything from television (think: "The Simple Life" meets "Survivor") to classic cartoons (Tom & Jerry - or maybe just Tom - trying to save a baby in a construction site), to even Ouendan itself (almost a retelling of "One Night Carnival" with a new cast of characters).
And I have to tell you, even though I am about as hard-boiled as they come when it comes to video game storylines, I have to say that the obligitory "serious" stage on this game (similar to Ouendan's "Over the Distance," in which the song features no pomp, yelling, or significant attempts at humor) is a Christmas tale that shouldn't be missed. I actually got a lump in my throat the first time I played it.
The rest: First, I have to say that the game's look is better than Ouendan. The game utilizes a lot more 3D effects while still keeping true to its predominantly 2D cutscenes in a very creative way. There is also a lot more voice work in the game, particularly on the training segment.
In addition to the regular storyline stages, there are also two unlockable "Bonus" levels, now. And although they can easily be unlocked throughout the normal course of gameplay, it does add extra playability to the game.
The only minor gripe I have about this game compared to Ouendan is that the world map is now rendered in 3D, which looks really nice, but is also more difficult to find the stage you're looking for until you've memorized its layout. However, this is a very minor complaint in an otherwise incredible sequel to a wonderful music game.
To sum it all up, this game is very well done, and I would recommend you buy it as soon as possible, whether you're a returning fan of the cult favorite Ouendan, or are just a DS owner looking for a high-quality music game for the system.
The Elite Beat Agents are at your service!

I downloaded the demo today & I gotta say, it looks great. I love that I can skip everything & go to the song. Although the demo was VERY short.....
Also, my other wish was also half-granted, seeing as the final mission deals with something from space.
Also, are there any "Ouendan" cameos (look-alikes, similar missions)? & What do the "Divas" look like? Are they as hot as the cheerleaders from OTU (besides that blonde. I read on a FAQ that she was american)?
Also also, whats this about "Mr. X" that you can unlock (GameFAQ)? |

Well, cheer up! Now that the game is out, you can play a couple of songs multiplayer using only one cart!
Quote: | Also, are there any "Ouendan" cameos (look-alikes, similar missions)? |
Yes. The Boss's son that the secretary was trying to woo in Ouendan makes a significant and lengthy appearance as a movie star in EBA. Also, you're supposed to be able to see the Police from Ouendan (PvR) during the "failing" segments on "Let's Dance." I can't personally confirm this, as I always end up restarting if I get a fail scene...
As for similar stages, there's a song reminiscent of Ouendan's "Over the Distance" in that it deals with a person dying and another person refusing to let go. Like Over the Distance, this stage features no countdown, no yells, and no real attempts at humor.
In addition, people that remember "One Night Carnival" will probably recognize some of its key elements in "La La" on EBA. Only instead of the antibacterial squad helping a violinist get over a virus demon, now it's the white blood cells of an Olympian fighting... virus demons.
Quote: | & What do the "Divas" look like? Are they as hot as the cheerleaders from OTU |
Some people say they're hotter. I personally don't have any strong opinions one way or another on it. They wear mostly red, with bellbottom cowgirl chaps over white jean short-shorts. It's hard to see, but they each also have a cowgirl hat draped over their neck. The main similarity is that like the cheergirls in Ouendan, the Divas also use pom-poms.
Quote: | (besides that blonde. I read on a FAQ that she was american)? |
Yes, that's true. Hers is the only name that is written out with her family name last (as opposed to the other characters, who say their family name first in the Japanese style of things).
In addition, it's widely believed that it's because of her that the cheergirls use English shouts (for the most part) when they rally someone.
Finally, in "Linda Linda," she eats Ramen with a spoon as opposed to the more traditional Japanese way of eating the noodles with chopsticks, then drinking the broth straight from the bowl.
Quote: | Also also, whats this about "Mr. X" that you can unlock (GameFAQ)? |
"Mr. X" in action: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRs2kH5vKbo
Read the above post of mine or check out the video.
*SPOILER*
Or, if that's too much work, it's Commander Kahn. You can allow him to take charge of the Divas if you beat all stages on all difficulties without getting any "Failing" scenes during a song. _________________

For anyone curious:
The divas looks basically are modeled after the girls from Coyote Ugly (short shorts, chaps, fringe vests and cowboy hats). _________________

So....what would this game probably get on a scale from 1-10? I have been thinking of getting it for a while, but I am just not completely sure that it is worth getting.I like almost every music game that comes out,but I have to wonder about this because every time nintendo has come out with a music game it usually is too kiddy(mario mix). _________________

I would give it about a 9. It's not absolutely perfect, but unlike Mario Mix it caters to ALL difficulty levels, from incredibly easy to blisteringly hard. Not ITG or IIDX hard, but really hard nonetheless.
The storylines are wildly creative and really fun to watch, and the premise of using music to solve people's problems is one of the most entertaining to come down the pike.
Unlike most companies that are willing to just throw Americans a watered-down, thrown-together port of a game, Nintendo and Inis also went the extra mile and made some serious improvements to Ouendan and ramped up the difficulty.
So, yes. It's significantly better than DDR Mario Mix, and definitely worth picking up, in my opinion. _________________
