I realize that this question probably should have been asked about 5 years ago, but I just recently thought about it and decided to post.

I'm sure you're all familiar with Put Your Faith In Me, which (if I'm not mistaken) was originally released in DDR 2nd Mix sometime around 2000. As I recall, it's listed as a "Konami Original Remix". However, there's an interesting passage in the song. First, take a listen to the passage from PYFIM:

Now compare it to this excerpt from the Street Fighter III Arranged album, released in 1997. This is from Elena's theme, "Tomboy (huge side)":

And finally, listen to this excerpt from the Bust-A-Move soundtrack, released sometime around 1998. This particular clip is from Pinky's theme, "I Know":

I'm certain that the Elena track predates all the others, but I don't think that's the original source. In any case, why would Konami list someone else's song as an "original" remix? I don't believe they do that with other similar songs.

By the way, there's another interesting comparison, though this one might just be a really weird coincidence. First, from think ya better D (2000ish):

And next, from Groove On Fight (1997):

Whoa. o_o I knew about PYFIM and "I Know" sharing that rap, but Elena's theme from Street Fighter 3 as well? Interesting. The SF3 and PYFIM versions are almost identical, but the Bust A Move one is somewhat different, too. Now I really want to know more about that rap, like who the guy who did it is, but I have no clue how to go about looking. Searching for terms like "'Put Your Faith in Me" DDR 'I know' 'Bust a Move'" doesn't get me anything, and searching for the lyrics in the song only brings up, well, various sites with the full lyrics for PYFIM or I Know.

I think I remember hearing about the think ya better D/Groove On Fight one a long time ago, but I never had an opportunity to hear the music from Groove On Fight until now. Strange!

I got another one for you on this note. Ever heard Bass Armstrong's music in Dead or Alive 2? About 20-25 seconds into the song, lyrics kick in and they sound pretty similar to think ya better D.

Unfortunately, I don't know jack about clipping selections out of mp3s, so I just uploaded the whole song to Rapidshare.

So it's a sample. Big whoop. DDR and Pump share the same rap lyrics from Gorgeous 2012 and the Celebrate Nite lyrics are in a Beatmania IIDX song.

I'd hardly consider pulling the majority of the lyrics in one song from another (which is particularly the case in PYFIM) as a "sample". For example, if you look at the Mantronik vs. EPMD Strictly Business song, I'd say the Bob Marley/Eric Clapton (I can't tell who) lyrics are a "sample." The EPMD lyrics are not a sample, they're the song.

I can't speak for Gorgeous 2012, but as far as Celebrate Nite goes, since that's a Naoki song anyway, I imagine Konami can sample themselves in their own games as much as they want.

The TYBD lyrics are samples. I've seen 'em everywhere.

But Konami most likely payed for all of this stuff or they'd be sued by now.

just like you can hear paranoia samples in a million other songs.

they probably just use royalty free samples which means they don't have to pay to use it.
