Hey DDR Gamers,
I am a plebe at the United States Military Academy and I am writing an essay on the physical benefits of playing DDR. The essay is in argument form and my audience is 20 members of the DDR "discourse community." I am supposed to use exclusive words, phrases, terms, etc. that only a DDR player would be able to relate to. This is where I need your help.
I thought this site would be a great representation of the DDR community so if you guys could help me out, I would greatly appreciate it.
Respectfully,
CDT PVT Rome

"I've been playing since 2001, but partly because I'm too young to drive (started at age 10; now 14) and don't have a home version I don't play as frequently as I should. My lackluster technical scores show that (no AAAs, only a few Heavy AAs with lots of Greats, no 11s passed yet in ITG). "
I just read this in someone's post. Could anyone explain to me what he's saying that's in parenthesis. Some of those terms (AAA and AA) aren't in the dictionary. Thanks. |

AAA is the highest grade in DDR - you have to get a Perfect on every step and OK's on all freeze arrows.
AA is the second highest grade. The scoring system for a AA is not the same across all DDR mixes, but usually, it means getting mostly Perfects. _________________

They're grades on how well you played (E, D, C, B, A, AA, AAA). AA is a 95% or better on SuperNOVA and a 93% or better on mixes before SuperNOVA (anyone care to confirm this?), while AAA is a perfect score (100%; all Perfects on steps and OKs on freeze arrows).
They are most commonly pronounced as "double A" and "triple A", rather than "A-A" and "A-A-A" _________________

It's not that simple, unfortunately. On Max and Max2 US (and possibly AC as well, I don't know) getting a full great combo gets you a AA regardless of the great count. And of course, there are scoring systems like 5thMix/Extreme US/etc. where you can't get a AA if you break your combo. _________________

All right, then.
I was just looking at the DDR Freak dictionary, and WTF at this definition:

I can personally say that getting a FC does not mean you AA the song in the AC. I used to get pissed off by missing the AA by a great or two. _________________
