you're right, ITG criticism SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED

oh wait

yes it should

The thread is one open flamebait. As such, no one has offered examples of overused steps(read: same pattern consistantly throughout 5 or more charts of the same difficulty level), so I'm inclined to think that the thread itself is worthless.

Not to mention most of the people critizing stepcharts here only do so because they played them on Stepmania and thought they could magically pass 12's.

And typing in all caps to be sarcastic is funny. gg biggrin.gif

When did people stop having fun with dance games and decide to be a bunch of whiny ass fanboy faggots?

Actually, the thread was going fine until this post:

It's going to break down to Roxor's charts suck ass zomg.

Look, you've made it clear: you disapprove. You've made it clear three times now. We get it. If it's to be locked, it will be locked, but you're three times not adding anything useful by this point.

Didn't know that was a criteria for this thread, seeing how it hasn't been mentioned anywhere else. Look, no one's bashing ITG as much as you'd love to think they are. Notice how people remark that it's mostly ITG1 songs with cut'n'paste syndrome? RoXoR is (was) extremely receptive to input from fans, and these sorts of comments, even if they are a little harsh, can only help them develop better stepcharts. And yes, I also realize that peoples' opinions of stepcharts has been made elsewhere and was available for RoXoR to check out. ITG2 showed a lot more variety in terms of stepcharts, and a lot of the guilty songs being mentioned here are ITG1.

So Arctic, I can't present my opinion because I'm in disagreement until someone offers solid proof of stepcharts being overused?

Whatever.

God I love it, you accuse us of being the whiners, AND you're all pissed because you think someone isn't letting you present your opinion. Oh noes.

Irony^2

I know, you don't have to tell me how awesomely funny I am

That makes no sense... because a game isn't perfect and we feel like discussing what we consider some flaws, that means we've decided to "stop having fun with dancing games"? And "fanboy"? Where the hell does that fit into the picture? If we're pointing out what we feel are some flaws, what does fanboyism have to do with anything? I thought, you know, fanboyism was the act of being blindly and pointlessly loyal to your all-perfect game. Surely discussing your game's flaws is the opposite of fanboyism? Why not think about what you are saying and form something reasonable to say before pulling a bunch of words out of your ass.

But to answer your question, not to bash the game ITG itself in anyway because I love it, but I honestly feel that it certainly didn't help by fooling a ton of people into thinking DDR is "too easy" for them, which I put in quotes because last time I checked, Extreme was pretty hard to 90% AAA, much less the entire game.... and then Konami buying ITG just made that worse for a good chunk of people, who probably now refuse to play DDR cause they always go on about how easy it is, yet I doubt a good chunk of them haven't even AAA'ed 10% of the game. Speculation, yes, but I feel it's a quite reasonable one.

And now look what you've made me do. The topic is starting to sway just like you warned, which it wouldn't have done if a certain poster who will go unnamed didn't incite people to. I wonder, who could it be? sarc.gif

How about step jumps. Probably 2 out of every 10 itg songs has a run of step jumps.

Agreed. ITG1 + Kyle Ward = step jumps.

He got less jumpy in ITG2 thankfully

Agreed on step jumps. I used to dislike them (and thus, many ITG1 charts) until I learned how to do them right.

Something I see used a lot is a burst of 5 16ths using up and right, up and left, ect.

I also agree with Remember December being very repetitive, But then again the song itself is repetitive, so it fits I guess.

I remember a lot of people complaining that a lot of ITG1 stepcharts had a lot of left-facing patterns (RDUL, RLUD, etc.) and almost no right-facing patterns.

Repeated in-place jumps (bad for songs that don't go with headbanging), 5-step LRLRL patterns, cut-and-paste skips (that aren't even flipped/mirrored at all), many songs that tend to back-and-forth facing either front-left or front-right, without much mixing up thereof, and pivots that use one foot on one arrow at a time, and the other back and forth on two. Somehow, it's almost always the same foot, too (left on one, right between two). Freeze-step, freeze-step happens quite a bit as well, not to mention having a few freezes in irrelevant 1/16's (even Zodiac doesn't hold it long enough to justify it's existance, and it's not particularly confusing in Funk Factory either... though at least that -looks- cool on 2.5-3x).

Anybody else notice that the second choruses on 90% of the songs is just "the first chorus on mirror"?

Also, I think it would be a trip to have a marathon course based on directional mods. Am I alone there? Or perhaps a "Easy" stage course, filled with add-mods (Big, Skippy, etc.)...
