The ITG machine that I usually play on was recently updated, and I came in and played a few of the songs I had on my USB drive. After I played, another person played who had some of the same songs on his USB drive that I had on mine. Before he picked one of his songs, I glanced at the screen and noticed that the record displayed for the song was mine, and I had never played on his USB drive, or even played at the same time as him. It seems that our machine kept track of the highest score for the song, and displayed it, even though the song was on two different USB drives. Has anyone else noticed this? |

For anyone that asks, I can confirm this (I was "another person"); I wouldn't have noticed it if he hadn't...=P _________________

That would be both cool and potentially troublesome. If the songs/stepcharts aren't exactly the same, I wonder what would happen.
Still.. my local ITG2 machine, which was updated with the R21 patch, first did not have Custom Songs enabled (I did it for them after they entered the maintenance menu), and second did not have WORKING USB PORTS when I went.
So that was kind of stupid. _________________

Actually, Neo, you're right. Here's basically the full story.
While I wasn't there, apparently he had played Chaos, but his sim, though it had the official steps (at least for heavy), had recorded music from the arcade. So, when I went up and played my sim of chaos (with the official steps and music ripped from the game), it had his high-score on it. So I'm not sure if it's a glitch or what, but it seems that it records by song name. _________________

Interesting. You know, the first song I wanted to play on my ITG2 was CHAOS as well.
I wouldn't assume the stepchart files are identical for Heavy/Challenge, or even in gaps and BPM, but this could potentially cause "cheating" IMO...
Not that I can even use R21 at the moment T_T _________________

I can confirm this as well. I was playing the Haruhi End Song sim-file on my card with the same set-up as a couple from earlier and when I went to pick it, it had their score listed as the 'best' for the simfile. The same thing happened with Fasc. Maxx and CHAOS. _________________

Remember guys, the machine stores scores by file path.
Songs with the same File System location will have shared high scores. _________________

I could easily take a FAXX edit with one arrow, using the community-standard naming scheme, go to an ITG2 machine, and quietly "play" the song while nobody is around and **** it. _________________

TRUE STORY FROM LAST NIGHT
So, I had a Xephyr stamina raping edit on my card, had played it, and ended with like, a 93.xx. A couple friends came in with a USB card containing "leaked" ITG3 stuff and the "good" stuff from SN, and while going through their card, put into an R21 for the first time, they scrolled by Xephyr, and on the Expert/Challenge steps, my 93.xx stood as the high score.
....2 VERY different charts, and mine didn't even include all difficulties, but yeah, it took my score as the high.
...Long story short, said near 850 step Xephr chart now has a machine highscore of 99.51 >.< _________________

Well, this is interesting. I was letting someone use my USB drive the other day, and they beat one of the scores that I had, and saved the score under their name. When I got back on to play, I went down to the song, and my old record was still there instead of his. I couldn't figure out why this had happened, but yesterday, I realized that he and I had played on opposite sides of the pad. I put my USB card on the other side that he had played on, started the game up, and sure enough, there was his score. Also, all the scores that I had on my other songs on my USB card weren't there. When I played again on the side I normally play on, my original scores were back. I can understand the scores being saved by the machine for each song, but this is beyond me. Has anyone else noticed this? |

This kids, is why you use the Edit charts, not Expert, when you edit your songs in Stepmania. _________________
