get a pair of BNS DX pads. Metal pads are bleh if they dont include the words "Blueshark", "cobalt flux", or home-built.

Another option would be a MyMyBox Nexen.
If you think you're up to learning how to disassemble and repair/customise pads, you can get them on eBay for about $70 apiece. _________________

ok, I think I'll go with the BNS Fusion arcade pad, but...is that price going to stay relatively static, or is it a special sale price? _________________

The picture that Mymybox has of the Nexen looks nothing like the actual pad. http://s115.photobucket.com/albums/n285/vesperka/ Ignore the Blueshark.

I don't own one, but I haven't heard of anyone having any problems like that with their Nexens. I'd say it's worth buying for the price. Mymybox said that they were going to come out with a Nexen model with a bar by Christmas '06. You could wait for that. |

I don't see what all the hate is on the TX-1000s - I bought one off of Ebay a year ago for $70 shipped, and it still works perfectly fine to this day... |

okay im really looking into buying one of these but ive had bad experiences with dance pads. im kind of scared to buy one of these cause i dont know if its crap or not. my dad doesnt want to buy one off the internet because he doesnt want to hoave to ship it back to the company when it breaks. im really confused right now and i dont know whether its worth it to just buy this one or just go ahead and buy the blueshark (since i was going to buy one in a year or so anyway) so if anyones has any really helpful information please say it. _________________

I am also looking into buying one of these. I think there are so many different kind of metal pads. BNS, redoctane afterburner, some cheap metal pads like $50. RedOctane Ignition pad is even cost more than $70. what kind of metal pad only cost $50. I doubt their metal pad quality. After checking AfterBurner forum, I do not even consider buying afterburner metal pad.
There are three metal pads that I need to check.
1. Blueshark
2. CobaltFlux
3. Nexen
It will take sometime for me to check all of these three metal pads.
BlueShark: So far I do not see anyone complain about blueshark metal pad, but I will wait.
CobaltFlux, most of people seems to be happy with thier pads. It seems that cobaltflux also has some problems too.
Nexen pad, not many people talk about it. So far it has great feedback on it. so I will also watch this product. why? this pad is the cheapest metal pad among these three metal pads.
if anyone can give me your experience with any one of these three metal pads, that would be great. |

The Nexen actually has the Control Box built onto the pad itself. One of them is start, and the other is select.

I'm afraid that price comes with quality. You can't expect to get a great metal pad for under $200.00. If you want a long-lasting pad, go with the Cobalt Flux. It's expensive, but durable enough to last 3+ years with proper care. Blueshark is pretty good also but I honestly can't really see it lasting longer than the Flux.

Alot of people don't want to buy them because there are tons of bad stories about them. Excessive pad misses, broken sensors, etc. Plus, buying pads off eBay kind of sucks, because alot of sellers don't offer any (or very little) warrenty on the item. If the item is damaged in the mail, you're screwed.
-------------------------------------------------------
NOTE: The Nexen pad's arrows are barely repressed, so you can only really feel the difference when you are wearling socks. You can't really tell when you are wearing shoes. |

No problem, but what pad did you decide on?
If he says that he's not buying it, save up a portion of it so he doesn't have to pay the full price. I did that when I got my Flux. I payed $200, and my mom payed $230-ish. |

Vesper has a very detailed review thread of the Blueshark and Nexen in this very forum. (title: BlueShark and Nexen First Impressions)
The Cobalt Flux's Arcade Mod shouldn't void the warranty because it's an official CF product; that's like if the BlueShark's warranty were to be voided by getting an MMB BlueShark bar.
Nonetheless, it would be better to ask, because people have a lot of tricks they can pull to get money.
But then again, the CF hardly needs a warranty anyway.
It should last 3 years under bad conditions before any part of it breaks, although sensitivity may be lost with age. _________________
