Forget about the totally abused terms "hacking" and "cracking". There is a very, very distinct difference here.
1. You purchase ITG for PS2. Then you download software that lets you hack the disk image to add your favorite Big Bird and Snuffleupagus simfiles to the game.
2. You download the free trial demo version of ITG PC. Then you start modifying it to put your ABBA's Greatest Hits simfiles in it, along with the ITG simfiles you already had downloaded, effectively turning it into the full version product, which costs $30 to purchase.
See, in #1, you're paying for the software. What you do with it after that point, sans redistribution, is your business. In #2, you're exploiting something given out for free. Whether nor not you think you're entitled to do so is outside of the scope of this discussion - the fundamental point is that you're screwing Roxor out of money by doing it, and that's what we're not going to have here. _________________

Your example plays a role in creating a false dichotomy that assumes that everybody will do it to completely avoid buying it, and that everybody that does mod the demo to add ITG1/2 simfiles will never buy ITGPC. While it is a given that there are people that will do this, I assure you there are people who do not. The problem is, and always has been calculating the numbers. _________________

How about I put it this way?
Roxor doesn't want people to hack the demo for that purpose. We respect Roxor and the people that work for them, and since the request makes sense, we'll honor it.
You're not just buying the media content when you buy ITG - you're buying the whole package, including the tuned engine and game theme and whatnot. _________________

you didn't have to say it. you said it's okay to hack the itg ps2 disk since you're paying for it. by making that okay, you're making it okay to add whatever someone would like to the game, such as itg2 content, thereby meaning that they wouldn't need to purchase itg2 cs. in fact, you're also allowing them to add ddr files to it, also negating the want for them to buy ddr home versions. you're adopting a very simple double standard about the issue. it's just like pirating the software, only you're allowing it because they paid for one of the games. _________________

You're assuming that when I say "it's okay" that I'm inclusively adding all actions associated with it, when I'm not. This is not the thread for policy debate, and I certainly don't appreciate you questioning whether or not our policies are valid or not to this degree.
You don't have to accept whether or not I'm right. You do, however, have to accept that it's the way things will work here.
You can continue this in Site Feedback if you really insist, but don't talk about it here any longer. It's gotten quite out of hand.
Yay, ITG for the PC is out. And the Mac, more importantly. _________________

Unfortunately that is not actually a real argument made by proponents of BitTorrent more a poking at those who note the legal uses for BitTorrent - which does include of course noting that Linux distros are distributed with BitTorrent.
ITGPC is like.... what most DDR home releases should be. Tons of songs w/ a wide variety, crispness, and the kind of fan interaction RoXor shows. _________________

...So what am I buying with ITG PC? As far as I can see (I'm not looking at reviews etc, I have the game) it's just stepmania with an ITG/2/3 songs, background videos and theme. The only new thing which isn't in stepmania by default (isn't there a way to implement it?) is fitness mode. I can import my own .sm files, I can make edits using the edit mode which is exactly the same as Stepmania's and I can use the keyboard to set high records like stepmania. Is ITG PC just paying for a cd that'd save you a few hours of downloading? _________________

I'm sure if it was sold for profit, Konami would clamp down on it (I'm sure it's a matter of time before they clamp down on ITG).[/quote]

You'd get the WHOAMIGOD feeling of buying Stepmania.
You'd also get high quality songs, officially synched songs and step charts, as well as a way to make edits that are automatically .edit. _________________

Good official synch job. The only plus I've noticed is that the songs are a little higher quality. Doesn't really justify the price tag though :/ _________________

I'll get it after I've ordered my CF. Right now if I blew $30 on that, that'd be three more weeks I'd have to wait. But I do want this, it looks good. |

The syncing in ITG PC is right on. All of the songs are synced with eachother so all you have to do to fix it is use the feature for adjusting audio sync in the options menu. |

No seriously. When is someone gonna put this on Bittorrent? I'd like to have the game, I just don't want to pay for it. Yarrr.
There probably isn't enough demand for a torrent yet. It'd get terrible seeding. _________________

You probably shouldn't say stuff like that, especially considering ITG staff posted in here |
