I was reading Wiki's page on GF (to show my parents what I want imported), when I came across this:

Wikipedia wrote:
Recently, it was discovered that Konami trademarked the name "Guitar Revolution", for a possible new US version. This may be connected with Guitar Freaks V2 being shown at E3 (possibly to drive people away from Guitar Hero).

However, I see 2 problems (even though I would be MORE than glad for GF in the US).

1.)I never HEARD of GF V2 being at E3. However, if someone could fill me in on this, that would be nice.

3.)With Guitar Hero out, the average american gamer will think "WTF?! THIS IS A GUITAR HERO RIP-OFF!!!"...Unless somehow, Konami shows the US GF was in Japan & existed WAY before GH came out...Perhaps pair it w/ Drummania? (& make sure it has ONLY GF/DM songs on it. & have some songs that people know cuz they were on DDR, like Jet World, Across The Nightmare, & The Least 100 Seconds).

1.) Yes, GF V2 was at E3, it was right next the the IIDX Distorted machine.

2.) On gametrailers.com, there is a japanese trailer for GF/DM MS. If you read the comments, almost everyone is saying, "Oh, guitar hero rip off" "this game is crap" "we don't need another one of these" etc etc. (when it's a japanese trailers, so I don't know why they think it's coming here)
I even tried to clearify that it wasn't, but people don't read the comments.
In the beginning of the trailers aswell, it says, "Since 1999".

This just shows people are stupid. Extremely stupid.

I think the only way it could be sucessful is if they emphesis the Drum Mania way more then the Guitar Freaks. Even pair it with a drum controller... and have guitar freaks packaged with the game as if it were an extra you could play with your Guitar Hero controller.

Guitar Freaks on PS2 has always come packaged with DrumMania (on the same disc), but Guitar Hero controllers don't work with it. They'd have to rewrite the game's controls for it to work, which they probably wouldn't do and make you buy a GF controller instead.

My opinion: Konami shouldn't have waited until after GH came out to release GF. As with Supernova following ITG2, it just makes them look like they're releasing games because other companies are releasing their own, and yes, most people will not know of GF's popularity in Japan and assume Konami is ripping off Guitar Hero and with a game that uses less buttons and has songs that people won't recognise. Instant foot-shot.

I'm sure if it was sold for profit, Konami would clamp down on it (I'm sure it's a matter of time before they clamp down on ITG).[/quote]

But what about the incredibly strong Internet following of Ephemeral Fantasia? Surely the devoted fanbase of EF will instantly carry Guitar Revolution to instant success...

Yeah, I pretty much agree 110% with that. I really don't think GF would have done well here with or without GH existing. The game style isn't compatible with the songs that turned the US audience on to Guitar Hero.

Drummania, on the other hand, would have done somewhat better. Either that or KBM. KBM could have easily expanded on DDR's popularity, and keyboard-based games aren't terribly new. The Miracle system was, to my knowledge, financially successful, and it was designed to be more education-oriented as opposed to fun. KBM could do both.

I think the game style would have worked, it's just Japanese GF's severe lack of recognizable songs that turn people off.

Yes, and us Bemani players probably look at Guitar Hero and think the same thing. Personally, I am not really into classic rock, so I've been reluctant to buy Guitar Hero. However, it is a fun game, though I find using all those buttons hard. I'm sure I'd be better at Guitar Freaks.

3 Words: Classic. Party. Triathlon!

& other songs I wouldn't mind on GF/DM:

Across The Nightmare
Centuar
Chikara
Classic Party
Classic Party 2
Classic Party 3
Classic Party Revival (boy, I do sure love the Classic Parties!)
Funky Sonic World
Handsome Jet L-Project
Jet Coaster Girl
Jet World (Long Version!)
The Least 100 Seconds (& the long version, least 333 seconds (5:33))
Magical Jet Tour (Long version!)
P.P.R (Long version)
Stop This Train
Voiddd

Does anyone notice how many "jets" ar in GF/DM? There's a band called "Handsome Jet" & a song called "Orange Jet Stream".
