i was wondering if anybody modded their softpad with the tutorial above, and what they think of it, because im a little tight on money and i need a new pad
now before you go "forget about softpads, get a CF!" i have already had one, and it recently broke, i dont even like it anyway... please stay on topic, dont post if your going to tell me to try and fix my flux
thanks in advance _________________

I had a softpad like this and the sensors wacked out on me too soon. It wasn't modded though. i find those sensors a little too over sensitive. I suggust getting an ignition (it may suck....idk) and take thin plywood and cut it into 4 squares the size of the arrows and duct tape it to the foam insert. That works fairly good. eh, a suggusgian _________________

I tried something similar to this with my old pad. I took a foam pad that was basicly a cheap version of the ignition and rather than cut four squares of plywood, I just cut one big piece and replaced the foam entirely. |

Easy tutorial
1. Measure your pad
2. Goto Home Depot and buy a piece of plywood a bit bigger on each side (I have 2" of room on all sides of my modded softpads
3. Find/Buy packaging tape (Or duct tape but Packaging tape looks a HELL of a lot nicer)
4. Tape the pad to the board on each side. Press tightly all around so it doesn't start coming up.
That clear sheet thing over the top is useless. Just mount the pad on some wood and you're set. I used a doubles setup with 2 MadCatz pads like this for 6 months. Its not an extraodinarily long time but it was better than loose softpads. _________________

For the people who did mod their softpad this way:
Do you get better scores? Like more FC's and triple AAA's? Because a softpad unmodded sucks so much. |

I modded my soft pad a little differently, but it is basically the same as the tutorial above. Yes, your scores increases big time and so does the life of the pad itself. For example, I have had my modded red octane soft pad for 8 months now and counting. Not a single phantom/ghost step has occurred when I played on it. This alone just goes to show how big of a difference there is between an unmodded soft pad and a modded soft pad. With my soft pad, I play and pass keyboard stepmania songs (which are 5x harder than most ITG 12's IMO). I also play ITG 12's and 13's on a daily basis. With that said, you can figure out how long a modded soft pad can last. Moral of the story: mod your soft pad!
(If you want, I can post pictures of my modded soft pad to show you how it looks). _________________

FCs, definetly, I dunno about AAAs
Softpads suck without a base. They move around and bunch up like hell. When they stay put, they're usable. _________________

Sure, why not. I might wanna make mine look like yours.
I guess I'm pretty convinced now. I just need to take a trip to my local Home Depot. |

i did this with 1/2 thick plywood and the computer chair rolly hard plastic material i got from staples. it wins. had to drill and use screws to attach the plastic, but i can unscrew them to change to pump. everything registers perfectly and it doesn't slide. i've never had a soft pad die in this mod, not a cheap 3rd party or the koc. |

I like this mod except one thing. Instead of using the mat on top, get 9 pieces of 1/4" lexan cut (11" square) and tape them down nicely. Lets the arrows move individually and gives it mroe of a hard "wear shoes on it" feel
the link thats all over this forum by now:
