Having played on a 2nd mix machine, I can tell you Extreme was leaps and bounds above that garbage engine. Extreme may not have scrolled at 60 FPS, but it's songwheel interface was much smoother and it worked in almost all cases. The worst problem with the new hardware I played on was the screen by far. The viewable area was smaller than the game screen, meaning the bottom got cut off. I couldn't see whether or not there were challenge steps to any of the songs. The screen was also concave; it looked like the arrows moved away from the player as they scrolled up, then got closer when they neared the top. Like I said in my post, new sensors, new challenge charts, and new songs would have made me happy. |
Uh, what sort of crappy bootleg machine were you playing on? The new DDR:SN dedicated cabinets have nice flat-panel high-res screens. I can tell you for a fact that no part of the screen was cut off on the machine I played on. Also, the "Challenge" step data wasn't obscured on the song wheel in any way. |
That worries me then. The one they had at the Ameristar Casino arcade in my hometown had a few screen issues. It looked like a regular television screen was inside of the machine. Please don't tell me these damn things are already getting bootlegged |
Well...It IS a Namco arcade. Remember when it got shipped though, something in the video department wasnt bolted down and they had to get replacement parts? _________________

haha Chris, they had to throw in some temporary piece of garbage video board until the new one came, thus you can only see like 75-80% of the screen, and it was much much much darker than it should be. I'll be fixed when the new board gets there =P _________________

You must be playing on a really messed up machine. I've played on 2 brand new SN cabinets and the screens were perfect. No problems whatsoever. If you're playing on the machine jbean and DamienKC are talking about, wait until it gets fixed and play it. You'll probably change your mind. _________________

Gotcha. Still, I don't see a huge improvement over extreme's engine. And I am still recovering from that loud awful noise the song wheel makes.
Oh and Wookie Wookie is fun. |

Got SN today. Worst upgrade ever. Upgrade manual says plug this into this....when in actual fact you need to cut off the plug all together. Granted it was a Dancing Stage SN which is ment to be upgraded from Dancing Stage 1/2 not a Jap cabinate. Had to hack the machine apart just to get the game board (or should I say PS2) in.
Sync is out of sync along with 50% of the other songs. This game blows, say no more.
Komani's 9th DDR (12th if you include club and solos) and they still can't get it right.
Idiots. |

I know the game should have had some more development time, but I just felt like emphasizing your point.

Dancing Stage software in JP DDR cabinet.
PS2 software in Gamecube machine.
They're emphasizing the point that your problems might have come from the fact that your upgrade wasn't meant for that machine. _________________

oh righto haha...
The kit was supplied by the Australian distrutor of Bemani products, Zax Amusements with the intention of upgrading our Jap machine. I can only assume it was Konami's idea to choose DS rather then DDR to distrubute in Australia. Silly idea considering there's no DS here and they're all DDR's.
Either way it'd have no bearing on the obvious software problems with the machine, only extra power hassles when installing it. |

Well, Betson has already said that the only software that works properly is the JP software. That's what the new US update is going to be based on.
So whenever that's released, just get a patch disc and that should fix your problems. Though, I'm not sure how hard getting a patch disc is going to be. _________________

Wait... so Konami basically made two different SN's? I thought the JP, US, and UK software were all the same except for the main language. I guess not if the JP one works perfectly and the US ones have the problems.
Also, what you are saying is that for the patch they are basically taking the JP version and just adding the English translations to it?
I'm confused lol. _________________

From my understanding the UK and US releases were developmental. The software wasn't complete until the JP version was released. The new update "patch" is supposedly the JP software with a US translation and an extra song. _________________

That actually would make sense, considering Flow (True Style) hasn't been spotted on a U.S. machine yet. That's probably the extra song... _________________

I don't know, but I think that the arcade that just recently got supernova near me has the patch, because I didn't experience any syncing problems with any of the songs that I played, and i'm not sure, but the name Flow sounds really familiar...I might've spotted it on the machine. _________________

There's already one version of Flow on SN, so yeah. This is a different one. _________________
