i have a konami soft pad that worked great for 3 months. It's starting to fall apart now, but still i only spent $20 for it(i got it used at eb games).
ive only owned ebay foam pads and that konami soft pad my whole life. _________________

I started out with a foam pad and have just switched to a metal pad. I'm not an expert player by any means - 6's and a few light 7's are as good as I can do, but I am trying to get my arcade game up to speed because I've developed some bad habits playing on a foam pad, such as dragging my feet and double stepping, because it's easier to double step on a soft or foam pad as you can just slide your foot from one button to the next. When I go to an arcade my game suffers because I don't pick up my feet enough and am not used to doing crossovers. The raised buttons on the foam pad helped me get up to speed in the early days but now they're starting to feel like training wheels, so I prefer now to play on something that's more like the arcade.
That, and even the foam pad slides around like crazy - after one or two songs it's at a 45 degree angle from the screen. There's no movement on the metal pad at all. |

ive had THE SAME soft pad for 1 and a half years, 85% of that time i was on heavy. i played all the timeon it, maybe 3-4 hours a day. i would get INcredibleably freaked when i got an A on even a 7 footer, and would pat myself on the back. then i tried my freinds metalpad, and got AA's on HVAM, Tsugaru, Insertion, infinite prayer challenge, and many others.
soft pads cheated me on life. i dont see how you could like them. _________________

i currently have my 2nd softpad, and it is crap. by the time school starts up again, i'm gonna get another cheap softpad and mod it, which i hope will last until i can get a CF.
my first pad broke when i was on light and starting standard, and my 2nd one started being stupid during a week in may when i was doing songs above my skill level. technically, it still works, but i have to push down for up and right for left, because when i have the(X O etc.) buttons turned off, the up doesn't work. _________________

My unmodded Konami softpad bunches up or moves whenever I play anything above even 5-6 feet. The jumping portion of drop out seriously might turn my pad a full 90 degrees.

Weird... my unmodded Konami softpad was perfectly fine with Drop Out/LoM/Max 300/Unlimited, etc. Ghost steps were the reason I got a metal pad though. _________________

I'm sorry to anybody who likes them, but I personally HATE THEM. I went through like 4 of them in like a week. I now have a RO ignition 3.0, and it is a ton better than any soft pad to be honest.
At first I tried a RO ignition 2.0, and it stunk, about a week, and it was dead. So I went with the 3.0. It rocks. I play on heavy, and it is perfect. |

going back from metal pads to soft pads isn't bad either. my church had metal pads and i played on em every week, but they broke down after a month or two (never buy DDR GAME iONs). while they were still working, i was still fine playing on my soft pad at home. in fact, i liked my soft pad MORE because i kept stepping on the screws because they were incredibly large and obtrusive. they're going to get either TX4000's or Cobalt Fluxes soon, either of which should be better (hopefully they'll get Fluxes, but the do have a budget :/), but i'm still going to be happy with my good ol Mario Mix soft pad at home. |

Longest I've ever gotten a soft pad to work for me was 4 months when I first started playing on Light/Standard...after that they lasted a good couple of weeks (except for my Madkatz which lasted about 2 hours).
Hopefully I'll have better luck with my CF. _________________
