|
I've posted this as well as I have sent a PM to the Canada Forum Moderator (quite some time ago) regarding basic, minimal moderating issues around the Canada forum.
Quite some time ago it was suggested that an actual Canadian be made moderator in place of Evn, who had left, and we were assured that the moderator assigned to the Canada forum would do a good job, as you can see from the date of my complaint, that is clearly not the case.
In all honesty, I don't check these forums that often because most Canadians post at DDRCanada. (we post there because trying to group the entire country to one forum is quite impractical, since it makes 90% of topics irrelevant for any given person viewing them) This is the reason it's taken me so long since my original noticing of the lack of upkeep to bring this up here.
Seriously though, would it hurt you to get someone to moderate who's actually going to be present and paying attention? It obviously would be better than the status quo, I don't understand why this can't be done. If it's something to do with moderator perks...I've heard sometimes you all get an expense-paid trip somewhere or something. (I'm not sure if that's the case, or was only a one-time thing, I'm just recollecting based on a conversation I had with Evn eons ago.) If not wanting to have more moderators has something to do with that, or some other reason you're not giving outwardly I'd be happy to take on the job and forfeit any potential moderator perks, I'd frankly just like to see a better job done. (I have the maturity and experience to moderate a forum well, as I've been doing at DDRCanada for some time now)
Keeping each and every one of your forums up-to-date and moderated well helps contribute to the strength and legitimacy of the site as a whole, and, as far as Canada is concerned, the job being done has been very minimal, if not entirely insufficient. _________________

Hmm. Kiba refuses to mod outside of his forums, but he doesn't mod the forums he mods. |

We had the same problem in the Down Under forums, and were basically told to get fucked. As a result of that (not so much the moderation, which was adequate if really slow) it's been more or less abandoned. |

careful what you wish for we were begging for a new mod in southeast for ages and we got one from southeast who sadly seems to not know when to be heavy handed and wheen to let stuff go (basicly doing the job backwards) im of the feling that we are just simple at a very dark point in DDRfreak time where we will have to forgo any kind of effective or active staff _________________

Well, that's a problem with selecting a new moderator - sometimes you get one who goes too easy and sometimes you get one who rides people too hard, but ultimately, when it comes down to it, the higher-up more experienced mods should be keeping an eye on, and advising new moderators on how to be consistent, reasonable and fair. _________________

MSD seems to be doing his job more than anybody else. Or were you talking about admins?
Anyways, we should probably start holding applications for mod, IMO. |

I must say I was disappointed with the reaction to the first thread I made regarding this problem. Essentially, we were told that there was no reason to assign us a Canadian moderator (despite many good reasons given on our part) and that whoever was assigned to the job would do it just as well, etc. etc.
It has become apparent now, that this is not the case, and now I'm even more disappointed to see no reply at all over the last number of days. _________________

Sorry about the lack of response. I posted this a few days ago in the Mod forum, and I'm debating putting up a poll in the Canada forum about this issue. _________________

Let me clarify. I modify the Canada board exactly as I receive PM's to do so. I was selected to do this. If you PM me to lock or unlock a thread, I do so (if I should). If you PM me to investigate something, I do so.
I am not a full time mod of the Canada forum. I am a full-time mod of SoCal and ITG. I could be a full-time mod of Canada, but that wasn't what I signed up for. In addition, I don't speak French, which would make it difficult.
I haven't received a PM from you Crono, except to desticky a couple threads (which I did). If you wanted to PM me some routine maintenance stuff, I could do that. Like you said, most people post on DDR Canada, and I respect that.
That being said, if you want a French-Speaking full-time Canadian mod, I'll support that ambition.

Let me also comment on this. I strongly support moderated Federalism. SoCal is a unique community with an extremely complicated dynamic, and I continue to maintain that the democratic wish for laxer rules serves that community better on that board. I moderate by a more complicated, laxer system for that message board.
Because I do this, and will continue to do so until countermanded democratically, I try to avoid breaking my own rules and moderating other boards if another moderator can do so. I always alert another moderator, and I will always moderate if it is vital for the interest of the board.
For instance, I always lock and warn for pornography whenever I see it, on any board. _________________

Destickied all but the last one. It isn't clear to me that the tournament has happened yet. _________________

Yeah, that one did seem a little unclear to me too. (thus the ...?)
Just noticed that The Fredericton thread seems to have enough posts/frequency of posting to merit a sticky though. _________________

If there were to be a poll, what kind of timeframe are we looking at? _________________

Actually I tried posting in a few threads in the Canadian forum but never bothered to pm you Kiba. Sorry about that.
The Ontario thread has floundered tremendously. Can the old Ontario thread be unstickied and left to rot and a new one created to see if it's even warranted to keep it? I know whenever I go into it I see the same number of pages for practically a year now and it's always with a comment like: Is anyone here? No, oh well, let's go to this other forum.
I only have so much time for forums and like ddrfreak over any other ddr forum I've come across (so far).
If you could kill the Ontario stickied thread and replace it with a fresh one I will start posting in it and see if anyone else is willing to partake of the festivities in a fresh new thread. _________________
