1. You must be doing something wrong - I made Intec foam pads last many many weeks with constant Heavy mode.
2. Japanese mixes pwn U.S. riiight.gif (DDRMAX2 JP is almost exactly like the arcade counterpart, barring several (minor) differences, for example)
3. Opinion.

1)I spent $20 on a mat that's been working fine (well, almost perfectly fine) for about 3-4 months. I got an official Konami one in an Extreme 2 bundle and it worked for 7 months.
2)If you combine all of the songs on all 4 US console versions, there's over 200 songs. There's even more with the Ultramixes and Japanese versions.
3)It really depends on what kind of style of music you like- I really love a bunch of the songs, minus most of the licensed ones. Konami originals = <3 for me. It's basically just opinion.

I myself don't think DDR is dead... I've got a group of friends that love it and play it on a regular basis. E15.gif Plus every Friday/Saturday night at my arcade there are large groups of people there playing.

Modded or homemade pads don't cost a lot and can last for a long time. And if you do decide to drop a few hundred for, say, a CF, what you'll get is a pad that actually works better than your average arcade pad. Besides, think of how much money an avid arcade DDRer spends in total - it can easily rise into the hundreds, if not higher.

Within a single game, yes. But once you have a few more of them, you'll have a lot of songs to choose from. Also, there's always Stepmania.

And of course, I could say the exact opposite and be just as correct. Arguments that stem from pure opinion aren't worth much.

yes, ddr is dead, its obvious due to the fact that people are posting in a thread saying that it is dead. (with sarcasm)

This death you speak of is nothing more than a fluctuation of its popularity.

Could've sworn we already showed how just because some people still talk about it or do it doesn't mean it's not dead as a whole.

itll never complety die out altogether, but alot of older players(well, at least in my area) are now into home gaming, now with all the crazy MMPOnline games and other stuff that people can do at home. And as for the whole home pad thing, i modded a Mad Catz(yeah thats right) Beat Pad and it lasted for 3 years. E15.gif .

Dead? I wouldn't call it dead yet.
Not as popular as it used to be, declining, but not dead.
Also, isn't this like the fourth thread like this that we've had riiight.gif

It isn't dead. For many, it's fairly obvious that it isn't.

Now, is it losing vitality? Yeah.
It's possible for DDR to gain some lost ground, though. DDR SuperNOVA and its CS counterpart are good signs of this possiblity. And hopefully, future new mixes will happen, and will help tread DDR along into what we hope to be a higher state of popularity once again.

It seems like there isn't much left for DDR, but I still prefer it over the other Dancing Sims, so I will still keep my hopes high.

no, its gaining popularity. konami wouldnt keep coming out with more console games and arcades if it wasnt profitable. and people are still buying DDR for home consoles because ddr is fun and accessible. i have a number a friends who have picked up home version DDR because they have fun with it. as long as this trend continues, DDR will live on. and idf home version players get enough interest at the game, they go out and seek an arcade to play at. i did. i think a big thing is that home players are intimidated by elitist pricks who mock home players, so some dont go to arcades, and arcades lose money and buisness.

if you ask me, its getting more popular...at least in my area. when i first started (pretty recently) i would go to the arcade and there would be no one there...now, a few months later, theres often 2-4 other people. not the biggest change, but at least its progress riiight.gif . i try to bring my friends along to play every chance i get, too...i need more ddr-playing friends E2.gif

Is DDR dieing? Well it all depends on how you are looking at it. If you are fairly new to the game then no its not dieing because its something new and exciting to do. If you have been playing DDR since the beginning, yes it is dieing because the people that have been playing since the beginning are no longer being challenged by the game. That is why so many people are moving to ITG. But if we all join hands and tell Konami what we REALLY need in a game hopefully they will listen and make improvments and we will have the reincarnation of DDR.

when DDR was first popular it was so much alive and kicking.but just like any video game in the USA when it was popular here, people overseas has probably moved on to something better than DDR.it could be a more interactive game to be released in Japan and not yet in the States.

well i have been DDRing since the 1.5 mix and DDR USA you can say i am h*lla old school.it was fun back then, nobody really cared how you danced.today it is fresh for some people new to DDR.not all of us.

to you all who played from the 1st mixes to DDR Extreme, dang i think we should retire!the game is still fun, but in analogy the flame for the game aint burning anymore.

and just maybe the DDR Supernova might resurrect the enthusiasm we old skool dancers once had.

we shall see! E4.gif

Its pretty dead around here. No one really likes it. I try to get kids in my class to try it out but they keep f***ing saying its gay. A few people play it at most. My arcade got pretty empty.

But the ITG2 machine at the mall is far from dead.

Freestyle is fairly dead. It happens, but it is rare.

Playing just to play is quickly dying. Few people walk up to DDR just to play it, though seem to have a score agenda nowadays.

Score whoring is alive and kicking. It seems to be what everyone is doing now, which in a way is sad. Yes, I score whore a lot, but every now and then I'll play doubles on my toes and just like sing along to the music and not really care if I end with 40 greats. Sometimes not trying to PA in anyway, shape, or form harbors the most memorable arcade experiences.

It's a dancing game. hy don't people try to dance to it anymore? We all look so stiff from score whoring.

all i know, is that whenever i stop by a place with a machine nearby my locale and feel like playing a game, which is pretty rare, there's always somebody playing on it, at least.

So i don't think it's DEAD, atleast not around here.
