for one reason or another
they really really bite
i like the speed mod (apart from the fact you cant change it mid game in options or anything, has to be when you select your difficulty. it replaces the "what to do on a freeze arrow" screen) but either its the software or the pads, they just...dont register correctly
out of interest, are the pads on korean machines different from the jap machines? the bootlegs ive found are using korean pads and cabinets, i dont know if there is a difference, im assuming there isnt.
and i may have also detected a bit of lag between hitting the pad and registering the note on the screen
or maybe im just paranoid |
I don't think it's a lag. I think Extreme Plus has timing window problems. I think Great windows are bigger and Perfect windows are smaller. But I'm probably wrong.
By the way, those speedmods kill the machine's hardware. |

I've played Megamix and Extreme Plus (within the last 2 weeks incidentally) and I must say they are absolutely horrible.
Maybe this is not characteristic of all Megamixes, but there were certain songs that would make the game freeze!! (Something the management at the bowling alley was not concerned by).
Extreme Plus features some rather disturbing snapshots of bareskinned male models instead of the crazy Japanese robot images I've treasured for so long, not to mention the appearance of the arrows have been altered so they appear box-like (not good). Finally, perhaps it was just the pad I was on, but neither me (nor anyone else I saw play it) could pass anything on Heavy to save their lives! May that cursed arcade crumble to the ground relatively soon! _________________

Yeah, some Megamixes function rather well. I know the one I used to play on seemed to run fairly well.
As for the machine I get to play on now...I don't know if the disc is just crap or what...But it freezes so much, it's ridiculous. And the last time I was there, the 1P pad was falling apart. As in about to detach itself from the 2P pad. |

I played on a Megamix for the first the the other day, and it was horrible. I don't know if it was the pads or the timing windows, but I failed Dead End on Heavy for the first time in...wow, I can't remember the last time I failed it! The machine itself was pretty bad. Sound was OK, but the cabinet was in bad condition and the screen was too dark.
The interface on Megamix was just sad. I'd never seen the EXTREME interface reduced to something so low and sad. The songwheel was hard to deal with, as the song at the top of it was tinted black. The one under/on top of it was also tinted, but not as much so I could sorta read it. All those screwed up icons were bad too. The picture for Heavy mode looked terrible. Who are the people that made this horrible bootleg? |

Sounds like one helluva megamix. I think the only noticable difference between the one I played on and normal Extremes was that the background was blue instead of green. Nothing else was screwed with, if I remember correctly. |

Yeah, it was pretty bad. The picture for Heavy was a bunch of green arrows pointing upward, and it was made very crappily (crappily lawlz) too. It was awful. |

o.o Now that I think about it a bit, that actually sounds a bit familiar.
I can still truthfully say I never noticed a huge difference other than the background color...However, that megamix was the first machine I ever played on. So I didn't have much to compare it to. o_o |

Your first? Oh you poor soul.
Hey, why does it say "King" in the title? Is there some DDR King Mix I haven't heard of? |

Eh, it could've been worse. I could've been playing on the Frankenstein-piece-of-crap that used to be in a local mall.
Pretty much no sound
Monitor was half dead
Pads barely functioned (And you could pull out the arrows very easily - no hardware required)
Equipped with Pump It Up bars
And it was like $1.25 or something for three songs. I think.
But I never played on it. When I first saw it, I thought DDR was one of the lamest things in the world.
Open mouth..insert arrow. |

Heh, I'd feel the same way. But luckily, the first time I'd seen DDR was when I went to an arcade and saw people doing 7 footers on a good machine. I was amazed. Apparently the reason people who have never played before think 7 footers are uber hard, is because since they'd never played before they see us moving our feet at the speed of light, when we're actually not. |

Hahah
I remember how I first played. My friend Brian spent a half an hour in the arcade trying to convince me to try it ( I really didn't feel like making an ass of myself. )
Eventually, he just dragged me on.
I'm glad he did though. |

Hm.
Anyway, what's the Extreme Plus! interface like? And why does it say king in the title? |

i think it refers to dont fall off the pad. also ddr kingis rare to find like i said, i never played it, but since its not official, it has a bad song list, bad theme, and bad things all around. _________________
