I kinda agree with the no speed mods thing.. cept like on ITG and SM... C-mods are sin!
I love x mods though!
but c-mods are evil and will eat your fetus! _________________

Cmods are 100% fine because if they are applied to a BPM-changer it disqualifies your score anyway. If the song remains constant then they might as well be an "xmod." _________________

I mean, it's a game and you'll do what is fun for you, so go in peace and have fun, but if you're playing to impress people, it doesn't happen when you hold the bar.
I'll be at the arcade, and four guys jump up and play 10 footers and Legend Road and rape the bar, and there'll be no crowd, and I'll be bored. But when one guy jumps up there and plays Max 300 without the bar... oh man it's a beautiful sight. And people watch too!
Honestly, Holic on heavy without the bar is more impressive than Max 300 with.

Ok, notice that I didn't change your quote much. All I did was take out a few things to make it flow better. Now, let me translate what you just said to the audience of DDRFreak. In other words, I don't think you realize that you're talking to fairly hardcore DDR players.
-First point, the bar is there for support when falling.
Who falls when playing DDR? If they do, that is sad, seriously.
-Second point, Thou shalt not hold the bar more than 5%.
Saying it like on of the Ten Commandments is only going to make you lose credibility, but let's just say nobody cares about that, who are you to command us to not hold unto the bar? I have never seen a dance game that says "DON'T TOUCH THE BAR....NO! DON'T DO IT!"
-Third point, it is a game to have fun, do what you will.
This contradicts you're personal no-bar statement because many people find it fun to use the bar abd score well and according to you, they "shalt not use it more than 5% of the time"
-Fourth point, people are not impresses with bar use.
Um, I am certainly impressed whenever I see people AAA'ing right and left. I am probably less impressed when I see people flailing to MaxX and passing with God know's what. If people are unimpressed bar raping, am I not a person?
-Fifth point, Legend Road doesn't attract a crowd if barred.
Crowds form not necessarily because the people playing are skilled (and if you're playing Legend Road, you're pretty skilled) but they form because of curiosity. If you notice, crowds form when little girls play Butterfly Beginner if the machine is an an opportune location and a busy time of day. Oh yeah, no non-DDR player even notices that they're barring, so I don't think that would repel people in any way.
-Sixth point, Barless Max300 is beautiful and draws crowds.
AAA'ing Max300 barless is DAMN impressive, but beautiful is not the word I would put for it. Sweaty, cumbersome, and floppy are probably more suitable adjectives. Face it, DDR doesn't look cool. And again, if it draws a crowd, it is because of time and location and not truly based on the skill of the player. Another major factor is how curios the people are. Many people have passed me by when I was AA'ing LoM and people gawk at Butterfly Beginner.
-Seventh point, Holic barless is more impressive than Max300 with bar.
Impressive. Unfortunately for you, you used the word "impressive". Holic is basically Max 300.......at half of the speed. Are you honestly saying that something twice as fast is less "impressive"? That is one skewed view of what is impressive or not. You can argue Holic barless is more fun, but arguing that it is more impressive is a view held by very, VERY few true DDR players.
-Eigth point, Speed mods are a sin too.
It took every fiber of my being to not just type "lol" and let this point be. DDR, ITG, PIU...any arrowsmash game is a test of short-term stamina, footspeed, rhythm, and coordination. I think very few people would disagree with me on that. Whatever it takes to make the transition from your eyes to your feet the easiest, namely speed mods or solo and the like, is not a sin, because the game is not called Read, Read, Revolution. The challenge is dancing. If a person completely fails Bag not because he lacks the footwork, but because he attempted x1, I would probably laugh at him (though this happens all the time.) You're only making it harder on yourself to progress with your footwork and stamina if you can't even read what you're doing. _________________

I use x2 speed with solo. I like to freestyle over at catskill laser tag. I get alot of people during birthday parties all I hear is "wow hes good" "how often do you play this?" "do you have this at home" and even if i do mess up they still dont care nor do I so its all fun and games till you bust your buttocks on the floor. _________________

Gawd I'd love to go to a tournament with you. Can we say Max 300 3x! It seems silly to ignore such a prominent part of the game the folks who made DDR/ITG didn't put the bar there to not be used, program speed mods so purists could ignore them, or cmods so that we could sin. Theres nothing wrong with using the bar or any arrow mods your little heart desires. I personally use the bar on almost everything because I have scoliosis and my spinal cord might well snap in half if I don't. _________________

No bar to hinder your extreme movements
Anyway, I pretty much never use the bar (I don't care if I look like an buttocks on 12 footers). I use it only when i'm dead tired, out of powerade, and I forgot to turn off my 3x mod for Vertex on my final song. Other than that rare scenario, the only time I use the bar is to hop onto the stage |

I've only used it on Max 300, MaxX Unlimited, The Legend of MAX, Paranoia Survivor MAX, Paranoia Survivor, and Max.(period). _________________

A lot of the time I don't use the bar is because i've been playing for a while and my palms are sweating and i'll slip off the bar. Anyone know a good way to stop that? (Besides begging my arcade owner to put padding on the bars?) It makes ITG2 virtually unplayable |

You could try draping a towel over the bar. _________________

Hey! I think I love you.
I have sort of become dependant on the bar lately, and I use a chair at home. My problem is that I cannot keep my feet close to the pad (say, like Kevbo) and I lift them more then I should. Therefore, I get a little unbalanced, so holding onto the bar makes me feel more confident and helps me get more perfects. I do a lot of flailing when I'm going barless. Pretty much the only time I always go barless is for gallops, like in Cowgirl.
Anyone who says using the bar is stupid obviously has never heard of Adam or Kev. _________________

If they pay, they can play how they want. They could lay down beside the pad and slap it with their hands for all it matters, its them who look stupid. If you pay, you get to play however you want, you can choose to use the bar on any song, if its needed (doesn't exist) or if it isn't (it never is). |

I'm curious about something here. I never used to use the bar (I was never good enough to really need it and it truely does complicate things, IMO) but now I almost always have at least one hand shadowing the bar (resting on the bar, but not necessarily gripping it). Mostly I'll use it to help rotate my upper body (on songs like Funk Factory ex). So my question is: does shadowing the bar constitute bar rape? |
