Sometime I want to get a JP PS2, and for it I will get many games. One of them will be Pop'n Music, and I wanted to know, where can I get a Pop'n Arcade Style controller and how much would it cost?

http://ransai.com/

You'd have to put in the things that you want to get the price. It depends on how customized you want it to be and if you want lights and such. It looks like for the basic controller, it would be $250.

Desktop Arcade makes some pretty good Pop'n controllers as well.

their Pop'N ASC's start at $200 plus $25 shipping.
their smaller Pop'N controllers are $125 plus shipping.

Thanks. Those controllers look awesome. I think I might buy my IIDX controller from them to.
I was originally going to use Ransai, but this place has pics of the actual item
You've made me a happy boy flash.gif

EDIT: OK, I really don't know which one I want.
I'd like to ask a question about the Ransai IIDX controller. On the buying screen thingy, it says you can add lights to under the turntable. I saw Flash and Constant-On. If I was to select constant on, would that mean it was on all the time, or just when I turned it? Also, can someone post pics of a ransai IIDX with the lights on both under the turntable and under the buttons? I'd like to see.

Constant-On means its always on. Flash would mean its on when you turn it (I think).

I don't know if anyone has their ransai iidx controller yet. I think I've heard that they haven't shipped yet, but that could've been a long time ago that I did.

About the quality of Ransai Vs. Desktop Arcade - I've HEARD (meaning I can't say for myself - I've never played Pop'n at all) from many people that Ransai Pop'n controllers are better then DAs. I can't say the same about IIDX controllers. I've heard DA's are really good, and I haven't heard anything about Ransai's.

Also, If you are in the market for a IIDX controller too, there is a third option. The DJ Dao contoller.

http://dj-dao.com - site in Chinese, but it has pictures
http://www.bemanistyle.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=25995 - has info

The English site is coming soon. It looks like the DJ Dao controller is the cheapest ASC available with lights (the other two charge extra for them). If it wasn't for shipping from China, it would be the cheapest available.

Besides those, there are always the official Konami ASCs, but they are more expensive, don't use exact arcade parts (at least for the IIDX controller), and no lights. They're also REALLY hard to find.

Hm. Well, until anyone else can confirm that, I'll go with what you said.
As for the IIDX controller, I really don't know what I want. Until I hear enough people say one brand is the best, I'm gonna have to go with eeny meeny mieny mo for selecting one.
But of course, I won't get beatmania or Pop'n for a while. I should be getting IIDX in August, when my birthday is. I plan to get GameStop's beatmania bundle. It's got a plastic controller and one game.
As for Pop'n, I've got plenty of time to decide. I plan to get a JP PS2 and DDR EX JP after I have my flux (or fluxes). After that I'll probably get Pop'n, since I'll already have beatmania. Then after I have Pop'n I'll probably get some Japanese beatmania.
By the way, could some of you reccomend me some JP beatmania/Pop'n games? I don't know one thing about either one except I have to wait for the pretty little lines/ball thingies to hit the pretty red line and then press the pretty buttons or turn the shiny wheel thingy. So I don't know which ones are good and which ones arent.

sounds like we're almost in the exact same situation, except im cheaper laugh.gif .

Well, i have the US beatmania bundle, and the controller is fine(dont bother with an ASC until you get really good at beatmania, the US one is fine), but the game isnt that great. I was thinking of getting the upcoming IIDX red which looks like the best songlist in a beatmania game, but also 10th mix looks very good.

Also, why would you go get a japanese PS2? unless you don't already own a PS2 and have no plans on playing any of the hundreds of PS2 games here in old USA, just get a fliptop slide magic deal. Its only about $40 for all the stuff you need, and is supposed to be easy to install. But buying a japanese PS2 for like $200 just seems silly unless you have that much money.

Also, i really dont see why you want to get import DDR games. You could use stepmania which is easier and cheaper(although illegal, but so is playing anything imported). When they say "for sale and use in japan only," i think they mean it. Like i said, no one really cares, but im just saying why spend hundreds of dollars on importing when you could do the same for free?

i can't help you much on anything else, i just thought that you might want to save a few hundred dollars on my cost saving plan for music game addicts. and that desktop mini controller looks like it might be the way to go for a cost effective and decent pop n' music controller.

I don't want it modded because I hear that causes loading problems and stuff. Besides, if I did, it wouldn't be a real PS2 anymore. And I'm a game collector, so that matters to me.
I'd rather get it for PS2 as it would add to my collection. I was planning to use the plastic one for a while. Kinda like I didn't want a metal DDR pad until I was really hooked. I'm the same when it comes to this. I'm pretty sure I'll like beatmania, but I want to play it for a while first, to see if I really like it. Same goes for Pop'n.
By the way, on that Pop'n mini laptop controller ASC thing, it looked kinda closer together then on the regular size ASC. Is this just a trick of the eyes, or is this just how it's built? I want it to get as close to the arcade as possible. I like arcades <3

it is slightly closer(or a appears to be) but im on a tight budget(i get $8 a week dammit!) and that doesnt look nearly as bad as the mini konami controllers. I'll probably get it for my birthday, which is WAYYY out in december. Never said it would be soon.

And i wasnt aware you were a collecter of some sorts. i really dont care, i just wanna play the game. but thats cool if you are. i guess its better than being a cheap bastard.

Blah, i wish eb games carried import games! Who else thinks there should be an import game stors with a big section of the latest and greatest japanese music games? Life is hard when you cant storebuy anything you want....

I have IIDX 6th, 10th, and RED. I love love LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE 10th Style SO much. RED is also pretty awesome, and it has Red Zone, but it seems to get kinda boring a lot faster (meaning, I've probably played 10th for 12 - 18 hours total since I got my KOC or maybe more and I'm still not tired of it, while I've played RED for probably 8 - 10 hours since I've had it and I'm pretty tired of it, but that could be because I haven't gone through all the songs yet and I don't know them all like I do on 10th). 6th can be good, but it has a much worse interface then the other two, worse graphics (less sophisticated and lower resolution), less Hi-Speed options, though it has some pretty sweet songs you won't find anywhere else (Romeo & Juliet is one).

So, they're all good, but I'd rank those three 10th, RED, 6th. But, they all are good.

I play and collect games. I have around 25 systems.

Yeah, we NEED an import store chain. That'd be just awesome.

yeah they should so have a gamestore called like....games from the rising sun(due to lack of thinking power). Stores should also carry metal dance pads. But hey, i guess we cant have it all.

Well I have doubles of some (GameGear, GameBoy Color (I actually have like 5 of these), and N64. One GameGear barley works though) I actually don't have an exact number. I just know I don't have 30, and that I lost count around 25
Anyway, they might start carrying CF's at game stores if me buy enough. Like, just 1-3 in the back.
Maybe if enough people buy beatmania in the US they'll start selling ASC's at GameStop or something. So let's all save up tons of money and blow it all on beatmania US stuff that we don't need!

Heh, actual game stores carrying IIDX ASCs? I doubt it.

If you're looking for a IIDX controller, you'd probably be better off with a DASC or a DJ Dao controller. The Ransai has been delayed for all eternity and seems like there's hardly any progress ever made on it. No finished Ransai has ever been shown. Random even made a thread called "The wait IS OVER!" that announced the opening of the order page (And several people placed orders, nearly 40 by now). That was over 8 months ago. Since then, NO ASCs have shipped, no new pictures showing progress on the controllers have been shown, and now Random is mainly posting about Pop'n controllers that he has shipped in that thread (Don't know why, the thread is about IIDX controllers). The good thing about the Ransaiidx is that there's a lot for you to customize for your ASC on the ordering page.

Steve (Desktop Arcade) has already shipped out a few early IIDX controllers and I believe has begun to start shipping out his finished IIDX controllers this week. Steve HAS been in the IIDX ASC market longer than Ransai (And thus you could say that he has had longer delays), but I don't believe he has accepting $ for the controllers anywhere near the scale that Random has. Steve also offers the trade-up program where you can trade in your US/JP KOC for a discounted ASC. Obviously this means that Steve uses the KOC circuitry in his ASCs. Whether that's a good thing or not is up to you. I personally perceive it as slightly negative -- he's had frequent turntable issues with his ASCs at conventions. It seems like this was just a fail safe to make up for the problems with his own circuitry, though he put a twist on it by suggesting that the KOC circuitry is the best way to go for its professional design and perfection. I beg to differ as I have a KOC and have encountered several problems with it in the past (Outside of sticky keys and stiff turntables, which are irrelevant in terms of an ASC).

The most exepensive option (Due to the cost of shipping the controller from China) is the DJ Dao (Platinum Edition -- PE) controller. It can easily hold the title of most arcade perfect (Well, we haven't even SEEN what a Ransaiidx will look like yet...). Unlike Steve's controller, the PE utilizes a more arcade-oriented style with lots of shiny metal and plexiglass panels. Unlike Steve's controller, the PE's lights in the keys are actually like the arcade and illuminate the WHOLE key (And not just the middle area, like Steve's keys; this is most evident in a lit up smoke key. On the actual arcade machine, a lit up smoke key actual lights up completely and is not hindered by the smoke screen. On Steve's controller, the light is dim and cannot seem to penetrate through the smoke insert as powerfully). The PE also uses authentic Sanwa keys (Though this option is available for the other two controllers as well, if you pay extra). The downside is that the turntable uses a simple arrangement of LEDs to replicate the AC glow (Similar to Pingu's controllica ASCs -- remember those, people?). Though it probably looks good in person, it most likely won't look as brilliant as the glowing mechanism (Just like the arcade) that will be used in Steve's and Random's ASCs. The plus side of the DJ Dao controller is that it is incredibly cheap before shipping (Something like $220). However, shipping brings the cost up to ~$340.
