Understandable, so did I. Most people don't know Japanese pronunciations, so I used to see "Sock OO Ruh"

It is sock oo rah... Didnt anyone learn the song in elementary school? Gosh darn. The "sakira" pronuciation is more for names and when it is said faster.

...well, technically it is a name...
I was chewed out by a Japanese purist when I said "Sock oo ruh" so I guess it's different strokes...or dialects....or something. Whatever.

I know Xuxa isn't a DDR song, but I haven't heard one person at my arcade pronounce it correctly (according to my source).

It's pronounced "Shoe-Shaw." Shoe, as in footwear; and shaw, as in rickshaw.

Where'd you hear this?

So um, is it bad that awhile ago I was watching Family Guy, and when Quagmire came on, I thought something to the effect of "Whoa, It's AA Bob!" (I don't remember if the exact thought was "It's AA Bob" or "It's AA Bob's avatar", but I don't think it matters in this case)?

From the overwhelming consensus of a thread on a forum. I think it was ITGFreak.

Oh, and somebody on there claimed that Kyle Ward himself said it's pronounced "Shoe-shaw."

Later I find out the "u" is silent i guess. Meh, then why is it there?

I don't think it's *completely* silent. It's more...I dunno how to put it...gutteral? Kinda like partially there. I think usually it's the ending u's that are completely silent. I DO know that the first syllable is the accented one, so...meh.

Again, whether or not the u is there is probably a regional thing.

Edited to fix broken tags. >_>

It's Spanish/Portugese pronounciation. X's are pronounced with "Shhh" sounds. (i.e. Xel-Ha (area in Mexico) is pronounced "Shell Hah". Xcaret (a resort area in the Yucatan) is pronounced "Ish cah rhet")

One of the most favorite ones of mine is the classic "PARANOiA 180" or the ever famous "PARANOiA 270" and other variations.

Oh, and "kakamay"

On a side note, does anyone know how to pronounced the "Fleadh" in Fleadh Uncut from ITG2? I've heard both "Fled" and "Fleed", and from that spelling, it looks like it could be either. o_O

it's Irish i believe, and pronounced "Flaw" as in Disabled the FLAW.

there was an old kids show with a woman named Xuxa on it, twas said "shoe-shah" so that's how i say it.

i've only just recently started pronouncing DXY! as "dixee" rather than "dee ecks why"

and i still call .59 "point five nine" rather then "ten go koo". japanese numerical puns don't make sense in english.

My friend, who studies linguistics, told me the same pronounciation.

Another one of my friends, who went to Japan and played DDR, said that the Japanese players he met pronounced DXY! that way. I thought this one would be wrong. E19.gif
