|

I came into work today to see a new ITG2 cabinet! It looks like it's actually one of the DDR upgrades but whatever.
HOWEVER!!! there's a strange problem with it. Aside from the pads being slightly busted (to be expected, looks like the setup was a rush job,) there is a noticeable lag for everything. Pressing one of the selection buttons takes a second to register, and when it does it will act like it's been pressed for a second. This makes selecting things impossible, as it will go through five or six selections at once. I can't actually do any admin stuff to the machine, but is there an easy fix for this? _________________

Where the heck do you work!?
But yeah, unplug the machine for a few seconds, then plug it back in, because it sounds like a static build-up thing. _________________

It would rock so much to just get up for a coffee break and play a round of ITG. _________________

I'll probably end up doing that one day, don't worry.
I'm just worried it'll get broken; we get alot of punk teenagers and little kids who would just play it to stop hard on the arrows. _________________

If it's still lagging, try dusting out the inside of the cabinet. A lot of people have been complaining about lag lately and this fixes the problem a lot. And if it's up against a wall, pull it away a little. It may be overheating due to bad air circulation. _________________

It actually is against a wall. I'll check it out tonight when I go to work. _________________

Okay, sorry for the double post but I have a status report.
The machine was still doing it when I went in on sunday, so after my shift I asked if I could tinker around with it. I unplugged the machine as per a suggestion here, and lo and behold it worked! ...For about five minutes. Then, it went back to its horribly laggy ways. Basically, I played one song, it worked fine, I got the high score but then I had to leave, so I let it fail on the next song--and when I tried entering in my name, it was doing it again.
To me it sounds like the machine is FUBARed, which is strange because there are a LOT of high scores in it for difficult songs. Maybe it got damaged in transit?
Unfortunately this is the extent of what I'm able to do with it; I'll have to wait until playdium comes in and looks at it before it really gets fixed. But does anyone have any other ideas?
By the way, I also pulled it out so it's about 4 feet from the wall. _________________

Is there any other machines hooked up to the power outlet? Such as a games that surge with lots of power? "pump, newer shooting games" so on?
That will surge the machine making the selector buttons and pad to light up all together at once making the machine "dead" or "lag" as you would say. An arcade near me has the same problem. They have pump exceed 2, beatmania 2nd mix, itg2, fighting games, crane games, all plugged around the same area. So eventually the itg2 will flip out causeing it to lag or do dead pad. Rebooting it works fine like you said for about 5 minutes to mabye even hours but then would repeat the same thing. Solution would be to plug it into a seperate outlet or get a surge protector for it.
Another problem would be grounding. |

Hmm. As far as I know it's the only thing in that outlet.
However, it could be on a circuit with other games. _________________

if the screen is displaying an "I/O ERROR" try disconnecting the top cabinate lights from the back of the BoXoR unit. That should fix it up. _________________

As far as I can tell there's no error displayed. _________________

Sorry for the double post, but I have an update.
I talked to the GM on sunday, because he was managing the theatre this day. He told me he'd get the electrician to look at the outlet and see if he can "isolate the game on its own circuit." Since it's most likely the power surge problem, hopefully it'll get fixed. I've been told he's coming by today but I'm not 100% sure if it'll get fixed today. Let's hope! _________________

crap-o-cab (cra-po-cabe) Slang Noun
A DDR machine converted into an "In The Groove" machine. This term was coined after In The Groove 2's new Dedicated Cabinet was found to be way better than converted DDR machines. |
