|
|
Hey do you know anyone who says song name wrongs? And are they new players or hardcore players? I have this friend that's been playing as long as I have (~2 years) and still calls Paranoia Eternal "Pandora External" even after repeated attempts by me to tell him what it was actually called. Has anything like this ever happened to you? _________________

The example you gave hurts my head.
I've had a few that I've screwed up but nothing that painfully easy to get right. _________________

My friend used to pronounce Sakura wrong. Also, a little kid at the arcde wanted to pick End of the Century, but he pronounced it "End of your Country," or something like that . _________________

Other than the obvious mispronounciations of the Japanese song titles (Sakura esp.)
I've heard people say:
Cowboy Girl (...How in the hell.)
Duhb-Eye-Duhb (somewhat understandable)
Trance of Rio De Janeiro (This one made me ROFL)
Game Lawn Day Double (Gamelan de Couple) _________________

My friend used to pronounce Bag as Dag, before she actually decided to not be a retard and read the title properly.
But it took me a long time to learn how to pronounce Irresistiblement properly... Much less attempt to spell it right. I used to actually call the song Irresponsiblement. *Can't read* |

I've heard Sakura and Tsugaru pronounced several different ways. Which is correct? _________________

I say it with the TS sound - as in, the way you're supposed to say "tsunami" (although I hear a lot of people omit the T or the S). _________________

Depending on who you're talking to, Tsugaru is either tsu-gah-loo or tsu-gah-roo (phonetic with the ts like tsunami,) except the "oo" sound on the end isn't very prominent--I've heard it more like the "oo" in "look". o_O;
Sakura is, I'm pretty sure, SAH-kuh-ra, again with the de-emphasized "oo" and the stress on the third syllable from the end.
Then again, I don't speak Japanese. I'm going on what I heard in anime for "Sakura" and what I've heard from my Japanese friend for Tsugaru. |

I'm pretty sure the pronunciation of Sakura is just Suh-KER-uh. _________________

I say Sakura as "SAH-koo-rah", with the first syllable accented. The first place I heard it pronounced was in Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo, and that pronunciation just stuck for me. I say "Tsugaru" kind of like "Subaru". I'm not sure if that's right, though, because I've heard a number of different pronunciations for that one.
As for odd song pronunciations, I once heard someone call Mikeneko Rock "Myke-nee-ko Rock". Guess it's understandable if you're trying to read it according to English phonetics. As far as I know, it's supposed to be pronounced "Mee-keh-neh-ko".
On a side note, does anyone know how to pronounced the "Fleadh" in Fleadh Uncut from ITG2? I've heard both "Fled" and "Fleed", and from that spelling, it looks like it could be either. o_O |

For a while, my friend called DXY! "Oxy!"
He also pronounced Abyss "Ab-iss" instead of "Uh-biss" for a while. I dunno if he still does. |

That... Yozura No Mora or whatever, I'm too lazy to figure out how to say it, so I just call it "Yozuka no Ona".
And my friend pronounces Tsugaru "Tih-sugaru" a lot. XD _________________

Understandable, so did I. Most people don't know Japanese pronunciations, so I used to see "Sock OO Ruh"
Later I find out the "u" is silent i guess. Meh, then why is it there?
Oh, and Tsugaru is not that hard to say, but people butcher it. I've heard "Cigar-oo" or "teh- Shugar-oo" or "Suhg-ruh"
That's just painful. "tSOOg'roo" (which is what I say) is close enough that you won't get slapped by a Japanese purist. _________________
