i got a konami soft pad at best buy today with extreme 2(even tho i have it) and i have to say it ROCKS! i needed a cheap pad to get me through the summer, and i got a 2 year warrenty on this bad boy! THe pad is extremely good, best non-metal pad ive ever used. I just wanna say if you overlooked the konami soft pad because you think all flat pads suck, dont. I did and i regret it; i should have just got this from the beggining.
I plan on breaking it when supernova comes out and returning it for supernova bundle. |

Softpads aren't bad, if you take some care of them. The problem is that they bunch up and suck if you have problems moving your feet. I've had my ghetto MadCatz pad for xbox for a year and a half almost, and its fine... with the ducttape. |

soft pads are great for the most part, until you try a hard mat. then you'll realize how deprived you were XD
well...maybe not exactly, but you can see what you couldn't do with a soft mat...for me, it was doing 8-10 footers without the fear of ripping the mat. |

the konami soft pad doesnt move at all...in fact ill give you guys a mini review!
Konami Soft Pad
Soft pads...always such a hassel for DDR. usually, you end up getting a cheap-o ebay bundle and think since the pads suck all soft pads suck, so you go onto ignitions/foam pads or if you have a job or are just rich you get a metal pad. But not everyone has that kind of money/time to research, and thats where the konami soft pads come in.
Surface/material: The konami soft pad has a somewhat sticky surface, but not like super sticky like some cheapo pads out there. I prefer the surface it uses to the surfaces on pads like gamestop pads because 1, it doesnt bunch up and 2, its not too thick, making it better to mod. The bottom of the pad is fairly sticky and didnt move too much on most 8s. I can see where DDR nines and tens could be an issue, but for casual players it really doesnt move too much. And you could always plywood mod it. Overall it gets a 9.5/10, dont listen to off brand pads where they say "nonstick surface," because the surface is fine.
Sensitivity: The pad is very sensitive, but not overly sensitive. The sensors are also rather durable, because my friends had the pad for almost 2 months and has it constantely folded up poorly, yet it still works just as well as my brand new one. This is where this pad truly shines. obviousely it isnt as sensitive as a $300 cobalt flux, but considering its price and type of pad, it gets a 10/10,
Durability: although its obviousely not durable, you could just go to best buy and get a 2 year warrenty like i did, so it lasts for 2 years and you end up getting more playtime than you would on even some cheaper metal pads. if were talking about no warrenties, it gets a 8/10 because it can probably rip but there are warrenties so it gets a 10/10, 2 years is a long time considering your spending $20 if you minus the price of the game.
Value: No reason not to get this pad. Whenever you get a new mix, why not get the bundle and use the pad as a back up or a travel pad? its only $20 more than getting just the game, making it as cheap as crappy pads on the market. The only thing i wish is if they made a multiplatform version for $30 or $35, but thats not really part of this product. The only excuse you have is the fact you have all the mixes, but why didnt you get this pad when you got the next mix. IF you dont have this pad yet, get it in the supernova bundle when it comes out. Thats a smart move. But in this subject, the pad gets a 10/10, $20 for 2 years.
Overall: the best soft pad on the market, only touched by the likes of the ITG soft pad. I prefer the surface to the ITG pad though, and its better than everything else. Why dont you get this pad when a new mix comes out? you can make your noob friends use it so they dont get used to the ultimate luxury of a metal dance pad and can get into the game without getting spoiled. Unless you play double, i reccomend using this pad as a 2 player pad or if your on a budget as your pad. Get it now if you need a new pad and save for a metal pad! you wont regret it! it can hold you for 2 years and you can save up for the ultimate dance pad instead of spending $60 on some ignition style pad that you order online and for all you know could break. I clearly learned my lesson; and thats that packed-in controllers are usually the best of there kind. And that the playstation licence=quality. An overall 9.9/10, because if you own all the mixes it might make you mad that you have to buy another copy, but there is ebay and friends!
there we go, a good review if i do say so myself. |

Pff, suck on that. THAT is the Konami pad you want =) It's the second best soft pad you can get (the best being the official, and AMAZING pump it up pads - which obviously don't work with DDR >.>; ) _________________

Flazh- I will wholeheartedly agree that when it comes to DDR, the Konami DX pad is hands-down the best soft pad out there. It's amazingly durable, and the sensitivity is perfect. The only problem is those pads are so rare. The only place I know of that lists them at all is Toys N Joys, and they want $200 for one plus $50 for shipping. To make matters worse, according to posts I've seen on forums and ResellerRatings, Toys N Joys is an absolutely abysmal online store. The only other place I know of to get them is Yahoo Japan auctions. The Konami non-DX soft pad is probably one of the best pads you can get that's readily available outside Japan.

I managed to pass PSM on it (the only time I've ever passed PSM)
I'm actually looking to sell mine... would probably take about half what Toys n Joys are asking for it too _________________

I got the Konami softpad bundled with MAX2 a few years ago, and even though I was only playing on Beginner/Light then, I loved that thing. It worked great and barely slipped, even when I moved up to Standard. Eventually the down arrow stopped working though, and I tossed the thing and got a Game Stop softpad, and my friend gave me a Mad Catz softpad. The Game Stop softpad's down arrow broke when I began to play on Heavy, and I was forced to use the Mad Catz pad ( ) until I got my Ignition 3.0. But yes, those Konami pads are pretty good. _________________

is the DX an official ignition-style pad? or maybe should they all be called DX ripoffs instead of ignition ripoffs?
and when you say PIU offical pad do you mean the one that comes with PIU exceed? that thing is pretty good, but call me crazy but i like the surface of the konami official pad better. The PIU surface hurts my feet because i get a rug burn of some sort when i do harder songs. Also i dont feel like mines sensors are lined up perfectly...but then again, i just got into PIU and can only do hard songs and valenti crazy. Valenti is totally the best song in that game. BoA ROCKS!! |

You're basically right. The Ignition pad is a rip-off of the Konami DX pad. The Konami DX pad came out in 2000 or so, the Ignition came a few years later. It's my understanding that when RedOctane ORIGINALLY made the Ignition, they took a Konami DX to their manufacturer and said "duplicate this pad". And it was great. However, somewhere in the Ignition 2.0 line, the Ignition started getting cheap in terms of construction. Why? There's a number of possibilities. Might be quality control issues, could have been a directive from RedOctane corporate, or something else. Whatever the reason, the Ignition is now nothing more than a really shoddy imitation of the DX pad. But people keep buying them, so RedOctane sees no reason to really do anything about it. =\ |

thats because of people who work at stores like best buy. So when i got my extreme 2 bundle at best buy, a guy in the game section asked me if i'm new to DDR and i answered "no, ive been playing for a while and am pretty good." So then this guy goes "well, then what you really want is one of the redoctane deluxe ignition pads." Me, being the DDR fan I am, told him the pads are not worth the money. But this guy insists. He says the first batch they got around christmas were "bad." but i say, well i got one of these things for christmas, returned it 5 times, and still no luck. So i'm going with the konami pad because i know its good. The guy looked slightly frightened(hey i was pretty extreme) and just sorta says "well if you say.."
The point is, redoctane is telling good companies like best buy that there crap product is the best on the market because gamepro gave the original a 5/5. Best buy is a trustworthy company with good 2 year warrentys on all there dance pads. Even my dad(who works at best buy) tells me there most returned game product is the redoctane pads. I told him its because they suck and that they shouldn't carry them, and instead carry just konami soft pads. |

Two questions:
What difficulty of songs do you play?
and
Can you buy this pad without getting the bundle? |

1. I play heavy and oni. I can pass basically any song besides a few maxes/paranoias. Although the konami pad isn't the best pad, for $20(minus initial game cost) it definitely owns 90% of all non-metal pads out there, including some $50 foam pads.
2. No, at least not anymore. But thats what friends are for . |
