Maybe I am thinking that CSFIL:SM is hard on doubles heavy because I only played it once. Oh yeah, I have been playing doubles for about two weeks now.
And a tiring song is The Least 100 Sec. That is in no way an 8 footer. _________________

I'm not really buying the "it's too hard to learn" excuse. I don't see anybody giving up on Max 300 their first time playing it because "it's too hard to learn".
I'm surprised at how many arcades don't have joint premium. But I'd pay twice as much for doubles anyway. It's double the money, but double the fun. |

I'll take 2 games of singles over one game of doubles any day. It costs twice as much at my arcade to play doubles. Enough said. _________________

here are the highest full combos (including jumps) for double stepcharts in ddr extreme:
paranoia survivor max oni - 655
the legend of max - 540
paranoia survivor max - 535
maxx unlimited - 525
healing vision angelic mix - 497
max300 - 494
paranoia survivor - 477
afronova primeval - 473
dead end - 472
the least 100 seconds - 465
daikenkai oni - 465
bre\-/kdown - 464
as you can see, tl100s surpasses the full combo of all but four catas (two of which - hvam and daikenkai - are as hard as an easy-medium 10) and most of the 10 footers (sakura, bag and genom screams have fewer steps than tl100s). while step count isn't everything, it is a decent indicator of the difficulty of a song, and it's obvious that tl100s is waaaay out of place as an 8 (and, of course, you can easily argue outside the step count - eighth spurts involving awkward pad crossovers and candlesticks, and almost constant quarter stream).
edit: dead end

I did however pass tl100sec first time. Second time I failed.
And daikenkai, don't even me started on that. And Afronova I have yet to pass on heavy yet. Only played it once, so that is a good enough excuse. _________________

I love doubles play so Iâm fine paying $2.00 when I have to. I got bored with Singles play and after a bit of struggling I learned doubles play. Now Iâm pretty much hooked because thereâs so more variety in the steps. At home I used to tape two foam pads together, which worked pretty well, but now Iâve finally got two metal pads. |

Lucky. I can do easy heavy songs now, but when I try the harder ones, my pads slide way apart. And my pads don't seem to like tape. |

we were just talking about a misrated 8 on doubles with a high stepcount, and i completely ignored dead end, which has a gigantic stepcount and is plain relentless.
why did dead end singles get moved to a 9 and not the doubles stepchart? |

probably cause of the jacks. Yea, the crossovers are pretty constant, but in the context of doubles I wouldn't say it's too horrible. It's either a hard 8 or an easy 9, I wouldn't really demand it should be either.
btw CSFILSM is like the easiest doubles cata ever. No gallops and really easy crossovers (they're tricky at first but simple and fun once you know them). I have 6 greats on it, the lowest great count I have on any doubles song
also maskedfalcon, I definitely disagree with you about PSMO being the hardest stepchart. It's WAY easier on doubles than it is on singles. And not just in the context of doubles, either. Compared directly to singles, the end run is way more forgiving and way less tiring on doubles. I can no bar pass psmo doubles, but I don't even try to no bar singles, it just rapes me. The only hard part of psmo doubles for me is the very first set of notes, I can never quite nail those. |

As far as I can see, doubles isn't very popular at the arcade I typically play. There are a few people who play double somewhat regularly, but for a large part it's singles. I don't blame them, as I'd much rather play two games on a single pad than one game on two pads. I do agree that it's more fun for sure, but I just don't see it as worthwhile. At least, this is the case for the DDR mix. For the In The Groove 2 arcade machine, you can play doubles for the same price as a single. A shame I have difficulties keeping up with ITG2's harder songs. |
