WHY does modding an ignition pad work?

Ok, I looked up how to mod an ignition pad: simple, put a big slab of wood inside of it.

But what does this do? I would think it would kill the sensors faster, because you sandwich them inbetween your feet and wood, and your feet and some soft foam.

It's understandable that it'll help you gameplay with better reaction time, but can anyone EXPLAIN to me WHY this helps?

maybe the same reason why they work for regular soft pads....

flat sensors = less folding/creasing = longer lifespan

That's pretty much it. For most players its like this:

The harder the surface, the better the performance.

Why do you think metal pads are made?
