I wished here where I live they had a DDR arcade...
So far I'm playing with those soft pads at home. My problem is that the pad keeps moving on the floor, it doesn't stay in the same place even though I try to dance really softly on it. |

That annoys me quite a bit, myself. It often trips me up during combos as well. |

I just bought a new PS2 again (sold my last one and missed it too much) so as soon as I have some extra dough for an Ignition Pad and a copy of DDR (hopefully I can find a Konamix somewhere) I will be playing at home a lot more to get better at comboing songs on 1x speed. I live within several good DDR spots so access to decent machines isn't a problem.
I guess the best arcade experience I had was when I 800-comboed an Oni course(and failed shortly after) at Six Flags New England a couple years ago and had a big crowd clapping for me. Great stuff. _________________

Definitly arcade... I have home metal pad and still wish I could play it in an arcade... There is just something about the atmosphere that draws you to it... And also makes you want to play more... _________________

I definately agree that arcade>home. The arcade is just better for many reasons most of which is being social.

I first started out with the soft pad...then I went to an arcade and sucked butt on the metal, I wasn't used to it. Soon I bought the metal pad.
Arcade is a lot better, I would agree 142849274892x infinity% _________________

I have been playing DDR at home using my Octane Ignition 3.0 pad and tonight I got to go play on the arcade machine.
WOW, did I ever suck. I couldn't even come close to passing songs I normally atleast B at home on my softpad. I will have to practice getting used to the arcade pad alot more.
Some things that were good about the arcade pad though was:
A) The pad is really responsive when you hit the arrows
B) People can watch you and its more social
C) I can wear my shoes when I do it.
Things that felt different were:
A) Felt like I was short stepping the arrows a bit. Seemed like the arrows were farther apart, but I am sure that was just me not used to playing on it.
B) The trick bar seemed like it was so far back that I couldn't hardly reach the front arrow, and I am almost 6' 1". I am sure that is just another thing I am not used to also. It definetly made it easier to read faster arrows and steps since I wasn't bouncing so much.
I'm excited to go back and try it again ASAP |

I like playing it at home more. Even though I can't show off to anyone I also can't make an idiot in front of anyone. Also I have to drive 45 minutes to get to the closest arcade and when I get there someone ussually gets $100 worth of quarters and hogs the machine. _________________

You do realize that if you put a quarter up on the screen, then when that person's done it's your turn. _________________

Yeah, it's so much better. Especially crowds. I can do ALOT better if i have the energy of a crowd to keep me going. _________________

u'll care about pads when u get on harder songs on heavy and start beating the crap out of them and having them scrunch up on u and stuff, i got a cobalt flux just because of that, but i prefer arcade over home, in a span of 4 months, i've used my flux once, i rarely play home versions |

That's wonderful logic. So we can give you a crap pad and you'll be satisfied with it. The pad is half the game. BTW, thanks for the obscene PM. Appreciate it. |

I prefer the arcade. The pads are a lot easier to play on. I don't have to worry about slipping. It's also alot more fun with people. I like playing with random people it makes it so much more fun. Then you also have someone to hang out with while you play. |

i like home bettter. It's my favorite because if I get the sudden idea that I want to play DDR, I can just hop off my buttocks and play it, not having to wait in line and spend all my allowance each time I play it. Plus, I'm not really a social person anyways. I have a cobalt flux, and its wonderful. |

I'm kind of a home DDR person.
I can afford to screw up and not be embarrassed, and I KNOW I've saved money by playing home, even though I've gone through three soft pads and currently have a Red Octane.
I'd probrobly like arcade much more if the pads were taken care of at Mall of America, but they're not. [/rant] |

You can drive 10 minutes further south and go to the Burnsville center instead. They have an Extreme and an ITG2 crapocab, and they will be getting Pump It Up Zero soon. The pads on extreme both work fine.
EDIT: If you play ITG at all use the left side, the right side blows. _________________
