Nah dude, I'm friends with the dudes that work there.
Yeah I would love a normal arcade without retards.
But I want there to be people to gawk at me playing and give me money and ask me to play more.
That happened twice. |

Cool. People haven't ever given me money. But hearing them say "Woah! Look at that kid go!" or "Dude! He's good!" or something like that is still pretty satisfying. Sometimes people just stand there amazed, like when I was playing Solo 2000 the other day. I would've done better, but the machine was breaking down before my very eyes, and on top of that the pad was crap. I think that was the only time I ever D'd DROP OUT. |

You obviously lack beatmania/IIDX experience, then.
Storytime! Two little (one looked 10-ish, the other about 6-7) girls playing DDR mid-day, I take a spot behind the machine and wait. Now, the thing about this machine is that 2P is a little shot, 1P is in decent (but not excellent) condition. Older sister is on 2P.
They finish one song, both on Beginner, and the elder probably would have passed if the song weren't 90% left arrows (ie, the truly busted one). Meanwhile, her sister is STOMPING (and this is a little kid, so it's a full-on stomp here) not in tune with the beat, but the slowed reactions based off of watching the dancer on-screen. The older is, but not with real force. At this point I also notice her shoes: platform, foam flip-flops. Crap shoes for DDR.
So they finish the first song, the older sees me, says that it's their first time, I give a pointer or two and mention that, in fact, stomping is BAD, and the right pad's wonky. They pick their second song.
Older sister? Frustrated by the pad, but is moving a little more gracefully now, and pressing firmly like I showed her how. Little sister? I wanted to lift her by the neck as she started out good and then began stomping again. Little poopy.
This went on for their last song, but the older had learned something, which was good. And as for the machine? Well, let's just say I didn't quite think the youngest had been good to the 1P pad. The left arrow was starting to go. |

People who ask to shadow
People who just jump on the other pad and act like a retard when you are playin a hard song or oni course
People who ask "Whats that mean that you put that quarter up there"
People who steal your quarters out of the quarter line
People who bring a gallon of water to play with them
and when people stand in the middle of the pad on light or beginner. I just cant stand that haha _________________

Scratch that, yesterday one of the guys who works at my bowling ally gave me an extra doller to play. He said he wanted to be able to watch me more. |

Yay for +1 moneys!!! |
Yeah, and it was at a perfect time too. I was all sad because I was about to use my last mighty fine doller. I knew I would soon have to say goodbye to the machine. Then suddenly, the guy at the counter gave me an extra doller. It was like the gods of DDR were speaking to me through his body (and money), and telling me to keep playing. I feel special |

When I was at a Machine in Florida once...
There were two DDR Extreme Machines, I played with my friend on the one on the right, and there were some other kids on the left machine playing. Machines were probably 20 feet apart. A girl comes over and waits for my friend and me to finish up our round, so we finish and let her play. I go over to the machine on the right and begin watching the two kids play DDR.
Very respectable. They A'd Maxx Unlimited Extra stage. So, they get off and I begin to play. The kid starts (I know there is a name for this but I can't remember.) pretending like he is playing the song on the right pad. So I guess I wasn't that angry, atleast he was GOOD and not some 12 year old that has no clue what he was doing. Followed by this came him telling me what songs to play. I didn't listen to him, obviously.
He started to attempt to convince me to let him play for me on my last two songs. At this time I just kept saying no. And he finally gave up. After my round, he got back on the machine and started playing with his friend, and this is when I asked myself: He had money, why didn't he just put in a buck and play a round with me. Also, anyone who is good at DDR, or atleast good enough to PASS MaxxUnlimited Extra Stage knows that pretending to play next to someone is close to the definition of retarded.
I don't care how good that kid was, and whether or not he is better than me, I had no respect for him as a player. I wanted to go break a thermometer and pure the merqury into his drink, and then watch him get cancer.
I enjoy playing DDR and meeting other players, though. This kid was an exception. |

Before I say anything, not all 12 year olds are retards. I'm 12, and I know what to do and what not to do while at a machine. And I know how to respect other players...now to speak of that dude. He must've been retarded. Anyone good enough to pass a cata in Heavy (yeah, a cata, not even a 10 footer) should know how to respect other players and how to act while at a machine. Like I said before, you won't find me acting like a retarded demented monkey who stumbled upon some beer and ecstacy. And its amazing how immature people will make themselves look, just to mock a DDR player. Once I was about to put in my quarters and some guy who looked like he was in his 20's jumped on the pad and started hopping around like a retard who forgot to take his medicine. And y'know what I hate more then that? People who be all obnoxious to you because they're not as good as you at DDR. When I see people like that, I want to shove broken glass into their skin until the skin turns purple. Then I want to get a hammer and some brass knuckles and beat them to death. |

Maybe he didn' feel comfortable with doing it with anybody but his friends... I know whenever I play in the arcades I don't want to play anybody (personally) since I want to take my time getting used to the pads and stuff.

Elite generalization alert!
Well, anybody will tell you that this is all dependant on several factors and isn't one clear cut issue: The tolerance of the player, the respectfulness of the person shadowing, and stuff like that all play in to this, and there are players here who think that somebody doing shadowing in a non-annoying (obnoxious) manner is fine... some don't.
as for the "Also, anyone who is good at DDR, or atleast good enough to PASS MaxxUnlimited Extra Stage" part.... well, why do you have to be THAT good in the first place to learn about the good and bad about shadowing? It just seems like it is an illogical assumption. _________________

blinking lights, stupid music, and effects going all over the screen.
Also anyone trying to play it looks retarded."
word for word all hate mail may be sent to TJSfromRT on AIM. |
If you don't mind, I'll bite on this...
"The fact that it's made for retards."
If I recall, that in fact ( ) is an opinion. -30 points.
"Also anyone trying to play it looks retarded."
I do wonder if this guy came to that conclusion watching a few new people play who sucked badly, or if he actually watch some really really skilled heavy players play and come to that conclusion on his own. Most of the time, it is the first bit, not that it actually matters while playing it since you can't see yourself play (unless you can play well with a reflective screen. ). _________________

... well... today, this girl comes up to the machine. Didn't know who she was, but going by the amount of time it took her to pick single mode, I assumed she was a beginner. Mistake was that it turns out she was putting some stuff down or something. And she ends up picking heavy.
But... she got on there, maxed out the timer listening to all the songs, and ended up doing Sky High. And failing. Then she tried again and proceeded to to La Cope De La Vida on beginner...
Somehow, that annoyed me and I'm not sure why... maybe 'cause the fact that someone picked heavy for there first darn try and assumed it wasn't going to be hard seemed... er... stupid. Can't find a real nice way to put it... _________________
