Quite simply, people are assholes. I get more frustrated seeing someone who sucks than someone who is big and trying. Then again, I tend to get annoyed by anything with less than 300 or so arrows by the end. If you're playing DDR at all you're gonna get looks. Usually not great ones. Just learn to deal with it. _________________

It's not just DDR. You would get looks and comments if you were to go outside for a jog or play another physically exerting sport. "Big" people are generally thought to be sitting at home doing nothing but eating all day, so there tends to be public reaction when they are seen doing something that is thought possible only by the slim and athletic. As Topher said, people are a$$holes. |

It seems, to me, that I'm not "discriminated" upon for being big...no, f@#king huge (320 + lbs.),it seems more to be utter and total deference tward me and my skillz. Though it could just be a facade and on the inside people think that I'm just having fun with the last living moments of my life cause I'm 'bout to die instataneously form obesity so they pitty me and offer superficial complements. Either way, who cares, If you're not breaking the machine, then there is no worries. |

You should really just ignore people who say mean stuff like that. Sometimes people feel better about themselves if they insult people. Other times they're just being a$s holes. _________________

I weigh 265 pounds, certainly fat enough that people might point it out. I've personally never experienced any discrimination, either obvious or implied. I had a woman tell me after I finished one song, "You're gonna be skinny by the time you're done!" once, but I dunno, she was overweight herself. At any rate, if people were to say discriminatory things while I was playing, I just wouldn't care. Oddly enough, I did experience people saying nasty things to me when I tried other forms of workout before like cycling and jogging. Whatever. |

Being the fat guy, I actually found quite the opposite.
I remember my first DDR club meeting, I was seen as another one of the fat guys and freshman who will be here for 1-2 weeks, then I decided to try Kick the Can on maniac (mind you this was like my 3rd time ever playing), and almost passed it! That gained some respect.
A couple nights ago, there were a couple drunk guys actually betting on me and my buddy on our 1337 skillz. And the first guy actually bet on me!
I think if you're able to have fun with it, make a few jokes here and there, it's not just another fat guy playing DDR. Just get on their good side, and things will work out. |

"Big people" can be just as good (or better) then not big people who play. I was once challenged by a big guy. He went in standard mode, and got all B's and A's. And I know that he was in an early stage. If he's not in Heavy by now, he will be soon. |

Um. Duh?
There's discrimination for big people in ALL physical activities, not just DDR. And why shouldn't there be? A fat person could never be as good as an in shape person in running the mile, or the 10 mile, or in soccer, or anything else that requires cardiorespitory endurance. It's obvious science.
Granted ,DDR calls for more form than endurance, so big people can still do good at that. _________________

im actually very active ... i used to play sports at school ... mostly softball and volleyball ... and when we did our laps around the field i was never the last one ... so i ran pretty good (this was before i injured my knee).... um ... as for the sitting in front of the tv eating, that is far from what i do ... i only watch tv on saturdays (for an hour, bacially to watch a program) ... other than that im always pretty much out ... i also rather take the bus than be driven/driving myself aroud ... im also vegan too (if anyone knows what that is ...) ... i dont eat much, im active, but i dont loose much weight ...
um, where all this came from, - i guess im taking the one comment above personally ... so please forgive me ... _________________
